00:00I guess I didn't realize that I've done iconic things, and if they are like cringed
00:29to some people, they're fun to me, like the Disney news, they are iconic.
00:36And so it's like, it's a matter of like owning the fact that I've made an impact and claiming
00:45those moments, but also I think it's like making peace with my past.
00:50I haven't had the like, this era for me is like you said celebratory and fun, and I think
00:58this is the first time where I've ever really stepped into this chapter of my life where
01:02I'm like, I've made peace with my journey and now I'm celebrating where I'm at today.
01:08And you know, if that's celebrating memes that have gone viral for, you know, silly reasons,
01:15like I will own those memes because that's a part of making peace with my past.
01:21I used to like, for instance, the Poot meme, when it first happened, I didn't realize it
01:27was photoshopped, I thought it was a bad angle of me.
01:30So I like was really self-conscious about that meme and was like, oh my God, like I can't
01:35believe people are laughing at a bad angle of me.
01:37And then I realized it was photoshopped and I was like, wait, this is actually hilarious.
01:41And even if it was a bad angle of me, why not laugh at it?
01:45You know what I mean?
01:46Life is too short to take yourself too seriously and I'm definitely not doing that anymore.
01:51And, um, so it's about reclaiming, you know, or owning my past and also just like having
01:59fun in the moment.
02:00I think there's something about your thirties too, where you just take a second and you,
02:11and you are able to let go of some of the pressures that you once put on yourself maybe
02:16in your twenties and now I'm 33 and, and I, I'm not taking myself so seriously because
02:23I, I realized there's room for everyone.
02:26It's not about like trying to write the most in depth song or, um, or emotional song, or
02:33it's not about, you know, it's just about like, it's about owning where you're at and just loving
02:42yourself for you.
02:43Well, I think I used to find it easier to write songs that were based off of things that
02:53actually happened.
02:54And so when I stepped into this era, I was like, wait, I can't just write like every song
03:02can't be like super sexy or super happy.
03:05I was like, I have to have some, you know, duality to it.
03:12I think what drives the transformations for me are literally what is inspiring me musically
03:31at the moment.
03:33And so I'm a fan of all genres of music pretty much for the most part.
03:38Um, I, when I was in my rock era, like I was listening to a lot of rock music that was
03:49inspiring me.
03:50And, um, and now going, like I went from, it was actually an interesting journey getting
03:57to this place today, um, sonically where I went into this album thinking I'm going to
04:06make a even harder rock album.
04:08Like I want to go even more rock.
04:09Like, so I started this process and I realized, I was like, there's only so many happy rock
04:18songs that you can write.
04:19Like, I'm in love, I'm feeling empowered and I'm in this like really great place and I don't
04:25know how to write rock songs that are, you know, all sunshine and rainbows and, and there's
04:32only so many of that that you can write.
04:34And so, um, I was like, I need to switch up the genre.
04:38So I tried a couple other genres and, but what was really inspiring me was all the pop
04:44girlies.
04:52Oh my God, there's, I've had so much support in this era and, and in my life and in my career
04:59in general, like I've had so much support.
05:01I'm really, really grateful, um, it's really nice.
05:05I feel like it's so easy for, um, artists to be competitive, but what I found, especially
05:15in this era is like, people just want to help each other and, um, and be supportive of one
05:22another and like, I love seeing other artists build other artists up.
05:31I can always lock back in to where I was when I recorded the song.
05:40Um, and sometimes that's a very emotional place for me.
05:44Sometimes it brings me to tears while I'm on stage, but other times I could sing the song
05:49with a smile.
05:49I think my voice remembers and it kind of like imprints, um, the soulfulness of what
05:56I'm singing.
05:57It kind of like imprints it into what I deliver.
06:01And so I just, if I'm singing skyscraper, I could, I could have a smile on my face, but
06:07you're going to hear the pain in my voice because it was so meaningful to me then.
06:12And it, it still means so much to me now.
06:14It just, I'm singing it from a different place, but it still has that same, um, emotion.
