Hebburn Town Football Club set for £2million funding boost

Hebburn Town Football Club has secured £2million-worth of government funding for its Community Hub project.

00:00I'm Alex Norris, I'm the Minister for Local Growth, so pleased to be here today at Hebron FC.

00:05It's a brilliant local football club that does so much for the area.

00:08We're making a £2 million commitment as part of a £20 million commitment to South Townside overall

00:13to build that community hub so there'll be 1,600 kids playing, it'll be a great community facility

00:19and it's just a really special day to be here.

00:21So it's going to be a huge push to the football club but more importantly the local community

00:24so with the 2, 3G pictures, with the changing rooms that we're looking to develop

00:29then we're going to see a huge increase in participation which will help young children

00:34in terms of their health and wellbeing and really we want to see the community use the facilities on a regular basis.

00:39So it's been a long process, eight, nine months in the making but I guess hard work pays off

00:46and I'm really pleased that the leadership team across the football club have been fully behind it

00:51but also our local MP Kate Osborne and the Minister Alex Norris when I've been down to Westminster

00:57South Towns has been really behind us and obviously it's rewarded with the £2 million investment today.

01:02The plans look absolutely fantastic, I mean you know this is a fantastic football club,

01:06it is driven for the right reasons, you know so for the club itself this will just go from strength to strength

01:12and that is all down to the hard work and commitment from the club itself.

01:15It's just a dream come true, we've worked so hard, myself, the Minister and of course the football club to deliver this

01:24and I always had faith that we would be able to deliver it but obviously we've just found out that it's absolutely the case

01:32and it's going to transform the club, it's going to bring so much opportunity to heaven, to the community here

01:39because it's not just about football, it is about community and the facilities here are just going to be amazing, absolutely outstanding

01:48and places like heaven have been forgotten about and left behind and what this does is it shows people

01:55that when you've got a government that cares, when you've got a government that listens, that works with your local politician,

02:02works with your local community to deliver what they think and know is what's needed,

02:07that's when it really makes a difference and that's what's happened today.
