00:002025 Chevrolet Blazer EVSS first drive. Is this electric SUV really super sporty?
00:07Let's get one thing straight. When you slap an SS badge on a Chevy, expectations go way up.
00:13And in the case of the all-electric 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EVSS, Chevy is promising more than just
00:20sporty looks. They're saying this is the quickest SS ever made. That's a bold claim, especially
00:26given the iconic muscle cars that came before it. So, does this 615 horsepower electric SUV live up
00:34to the hype? We took it for a spin to find out. Wide open what's Blazer's secret weapon. There's a
00:41button in the Blazer EVSS that looks suspiciously like something Batman would use. Press it, and you
00:47activate wide open what's, wow, mode, Chevy's flashy name for full power mode. It might sound cheesy,
00:54but the performance it delivers is very real. In wow mode, you get the full 615 horsepower and 650
01:03LBFT of torque, and the Blazer EVSS launches like a rocket. Seriously, it hits 0 to 60 miles per hour in
01:113.4 seconds and finishes the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds at 117.5 miles per hour. That's muscle car
01:21territory. Not bad for a 5,729-pound SUV, right? So, how does it compare to the competition?
01:30The most obvious rival here is the Hyundai Ioniq 5N, another all-electric performance SUV.
01:37It's smaller, lighter, and actually quicker than the Blazer SS, hitting 0 to 60 in just 2.8
01:43seconds and clocking an 11.0 second quarter mile at 124.9 miles per hour. But here's the thing,
01:52while the Hyundai may edge out the Blazer on paper, the Chevy offers something different,
01:56size, presence, and that classic SS vibe. It's more muscle SUV than hot hatch. Handling, grip,
02:04and brakes. Now, let's talk handling. No surprise, the Blazer EVSS is no featherweight,
02:11and you feel that in the corners. It's not a track star, but it doesn't fall apart either.
02:18In a figure-eight test, it posted a 25.1-second lap range. Chevy takes the win. One area where the
02:25Blazer SS wins easily? Range. Thanks to its large 102-kilowatt-hour battery, it boasts an EP-rated
02:34range of 303 miles, compared to the Ioniq 5N's 221 miles. In real-world testing, it got 276 miles on a
02:44single charge during Motor Trend's highway range test. Solid numbers. However, when it comes to
02:51charging, the Blazer is just okay. Fast charging from 5 to 80% takes about 54 minutes, and a full
02:58charge to 100% took 97 minutes. Hyundai's EVs charge noticeably faster. Interior, tech, and comfort.
03:08Inside, the Blazer SS EV delivers a modern, clean, and spacious cabin. The highlight? A massive
03:15wraparound digital display angled toward the driver. It's sharp, responsive, and easy to use. There's no
03:23Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, but Chevy's Google-based infotainment system works well enough for most
03:29users. The seats are comfy, though more bolstering would be nice for aggressive driving. The optional
03:35dual-pane panoramic sunroof is worth the $1,495. It really opens up the cabin. One-pedal driving is
03:45great here, with two selectable modes, aggressive and super-aggressive. If you're into that EV-style
03:52braking and acceleration without touching the pedals much, you'll love it. Ride quality? It's
03:58on the firmer side, especially thanks to the big 22-inch wheels and non-adaptive suspension.
04:04It smooths out most bumps thanks to its long wheelbase, but it definitely rides like a performance
04:10SUV, not a cushy cruiser. Styling, SS, but make it electric. The Habanero orange color might be bold,
04:18but the design isn't overdone. It's got the sporty cues you'd expect from an SS,
04:24aggressive stance, sharp lines, and a slightly sinister vibe, without looking like a caricature
04:30of itself. And even though it's electric, it still feels powerful.
