Can Jaylen Brown be a true #1 this year?? Is JB ready to take another leap this season? Have we not seen JB's best due to his "sacrifices and role changes"? #NBA
Transcript
00:00He did an interview with Noah Dalzell, Celtics blog, in which he said that he was, essentially, he was the most talented player in the world.
00:11Do you happen to have that exact quote?
00:13Yeah, Greg, the exact quote is, I feel like I'm very talented.
00:17I'm one of the most talented people in this league, on this planet.
00:22I feel like I'm looking forward to showing the world more.
00:26Okay.
00:26I mean, I don't, it doesn't bother me.
00:28No, that don't bother me.
00:29Does that bother you?
00:29No, no, that doesn't bother me.
00:31You should have that attitude.
00:32You're a professional athlete.
00:33You should be like that.
00:34I mean, I don't know that he, you have to define most when it comes to one of the most talented people in the world.
00:46How many people are in that category?
00:48I mean, he's not, when it comes to basketball, he's not top five most talented.
00:53No, but he's one of the 20 best basketball players on the planet.
00:56I think that's fair.
00:57Is he?
00:57Yeah, absolutely.
00:58Top 20?
00:59Yeah, I would say he's, I would even put him higher than that.
01:01I'd say he's probably, you know, top 15, you know, depending on where, you know, you would slide him 11, 12, 13.
01:10I think, I don't have an issue with that.
01:12And I don't remember the audio that we played.
01:16So, you know, I mean, maybe I just wasn't paying attention.
01:20I have it if you'd like to hear it.
01:21That I have more of an issue with that I have more of an issue with, with that audio where he says that he wasn't happy about his role.
01:29Go ahead, player champ.
01:31I feel like people haven't seen me at my best.
01:33We have a loaded roster.
01:34So, sometimes you've got to do what needs to be done as a team.
01:39Okay.
01:40That, to me, I think it's more like I could be doing more, but my role doesn't allow me to do more.
01:51And I want to do more because I know how talented I am.
01:56And so, I think with that, more so than anything, is we are now going to see Jalen Brown this year.
02:06But it's going to be different for him because he's not going to have Tatum to lean on.
02:12In the same blog interview, he says that he has had to make sacrifices for the Celtics.
02:21And hasn't always agreed with them, which I think is where people have an issue.
02:27Yeah, that, that.
02:28And the quote is, I disagree with a lot of things.
02:32I've had to change roles, styles.
02:36I've had to do things that other players of my talent just haven't had to do.
02:45And I've been okay with them because I've always been a team guy.
02:50I feel like sometimes that gets taken for granted.
02:55Now, that's a slippery slope to me because you're not really taken for granted if you're given a max deal of...
03:05At one point, the highest paid player in basketball.
03:07Nearly $300 million or over $300 million.
03:11That does not indicate to me, Jalen, that you are being taken for granted.
03:16I said this when we talked about this a couple days ago.
03:20This and people, they would be naive to think opposite of what I'm about to say.
03:28Like, I feel like this is headed on a road because I talked about training off the tracks.
03:34Like, there's no good end coming with the Jalen Brown Celtics situation.
03:39You don't think so?
03:40Nope.
03:40Because, I mean, what if he leads this team deep into the playoffs this year, essentially by himself?
03:48Right.
03:48So, if he does that, now him saying he's the most talented player in the world, that just echoes to another level.
03:57So, he doesn't, if that happens, then he doesn't want to play second fiddle to Jason Tatum when Jason Tatum comes back.
04:05And don't ask me to do things somebody of my talent would have to do.
04:10But what are those things?
04:11I don't know.
04:12Whatever those sacrifices are...
04:13What does he have to do?
04:14Play defense?
04:14Take less shots?
04:15I mean, like, I mean, he was the championship MVP.
04:21Like, that's not being taken for granted.
04:24Right, so, you don't...
04:26See, that's what I'm saying.
04:27Like, how do you not see this ending?
04:30And I don't mean badly, like, it's going to be bad for, like, you know, just a smear campaign.
04:36But I think he ultimately gets traded because if you're saying that you did things that somebody of your caliber wouldn't be asked to do and you didn't like them, but you were, like, being a team guy.
04:50I'm a team guy, it just seems like if you now, next year, and you have a tremendous year, you're going to be like, I'm not doing that no more.
04:59Greg, this goes all the way back to that hookah bar many, many moons ago.
05:03He wants to be the big dog.
05:05Yeah, he does want to be the big dog.
05:07But you have to earn that and you have to be the big dog.
05:11But he thinks he has earned it.
05:12He has finals MVP, Eastern Conference finals MVP, and you just heard him say, as far as his talent, you don't think in his mind he believes he should be the number one, even when Tatum's there?
05:28I guess he does.
05:29I don't know how you can play with Jason Tatum and think that, and you're Jalen Brown, and think that you are a better player than he is.
05:37Because you want Eastern Conference finals MVP and finals MVP.
05:41And you think that because you're a better team player, you're giving in to some of the things that the team needs.
05:47This is Kyle, or you can bring him up.
05:49Kyle from Lowell.
05:50Hey, Kyle.
05:52Hey, how's it going?
05:53What's up?
05:54Jalen Brown, he's getting ridiculous sometimes when he talks.
05:58I mean, Kyrie Irving is no longer on the basketball team.
06:01Marcus Smart is not on the basketball team.
06:03There's nothing to be any more of an equal opportunity offensive style of play.
06:07He has more chances and more opportunity than Jason Tatum, probably, to dominate or be the number one guy.
06:15But Jason Tatum earned that role.
06:16I don't think Joe Mizzou sits there and runs plays for Jason Tatum, but demands the ball get a Jason Tatum hand.
06:22Jalen Brown has just as much opportunity.
06:24And Jalen Brown, you've got two opportunities where Tatum's gone down.
06:28Eastern Conference against Miami Heat, game seven.
06:30All we needed was you to take over for us to get to the finals, and he no-showed.
06:35And then Tatum goes down again this year, and I don't expect him to come back from 3-1,
06:39but at least show up a little bit, dude, and dominate the series.
06:43There's nowhere to be found when Tudor goes missing.
06:45I'm just tired of it.
06:46Jalen Brown is a good player, but stop trying to make us all believe you're some type of Jordan,
06:51that you're never going to be, dude.
06:52You're solid, and you're not that great.
06:54And that's why I said this is like in the comic book worlds.
07:04This is like a course of two worlds colliding that they should not be colliding.
07:09Clash of multiverse.
07:10Yeah, because even when Courtney says she'll, you know, they're like, oh, Jalen Brown, he's the alpha.
07:15He's the better.
07:15Well, she's a Jalen Brown stan.
07:19But there are a lot of Jalen Brown stans out there.
07:21Well, I don't know if there are the more he speaks.
07:25Like, I think people are bothered.
07:26Like, look at the reaction to this.
07:29Right.
07:30Because people are knowing, like, people are starting to understand, and I get it,
07:36where he wants to be top dog.
07:39But what has he had to do when he's whining, which is kind of what it is.
07:43Yeah.
07:43What has he had to do that other players of his caliber haven't had to do?
07:51Is he talking about not, you know, not getting the last shot to win a basketball game because it's Jason Tatum?
07:57It could be it.
07:58I think what he's saying is he has to play second fiddle to Jason Tatum.
08:05The offense goes through Tatum, at least this is my opinion that he thinks, rather than it should go through me and Jason.
08:15But it goes through Jason and then me, where maybe that's what he's saying.
08:20I have to kind of take this back.
