Transcript
00:00After halting the June 30th Police Service Social and Welfare Association's executive election carded for that very day through an interim injunction, High Court Judge Frank Sipisad today ruled that Special Reserve Police officers can be members of the association and can vote in its election.
00:20This has been declared as a big win for the SRPs as not only will they be able to vote for an association executive, they will also be beneficiaries of the protection and benefits of the association.
00:35The matter arose when one slate in the election, Voices in Blue, filed an emergency application to the court asking that the election be stopped and challenging ACP Anand Ramisar's candidacy.
00:49Ramisar leads Team Equity in the 2025 election.
00:53They claim Ramisar, who previously served three terms on the executive, two as president and one as secretary, is ineligible due to the three-term limit.
01:04They also claim the inclusion of SRPs and municipal police officers in the election is unlawful.
01:10The judge in June issued an injunction prohibiting ACP Ramisar from participating in the election pending the court's ruling.
01:20Justice Sipisad will rule on that aspect on August 26th.
01:25The court declared that special reserve police officers, municipal police officers and transit police officers are entitled to be members of the association.
01:34The injunction barring the election is to remain in place until the final ruling on August 26th.
