00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Houston Betts and today I'm out on the streets of Manchester asking people about parental leave.
00:06That's because the government is delving into the topic to make a once-in-a-generation shift change.
00:11So we want to know specifically how much time people think that parents, specifically fathers, should be given off once their baby has been born.
00:19A whole bunch more than they currently are.
00:22I believe in fairness, man. It should be the same for both. Like, not one way or the other.
00:27So, you know, equal amounts of time for both mum and dad, you know. That's what I'm for. That should work, hopefully.
00:35I'm a big fan of the changes that have been made to mean that you have, like, an allowance for parental leave and either parent can take it.
00:42Yeah.
00:42I like the idea of a system that just, wherever possible, doesn't have inbuilt prejudices.
00:50So just say, when a baby's born, someone's going to have to do a whole bunch of looking after it.
00:56Here is a bank of free time that can be taken by anyone to do that.
