It's only the start of July, but 2025 has already been one of AccuWeather Meteorologist Tony Laubach's most active and intense storm chasing seasons in his 29-year career.
Transcript
00:00It has been another tornado season to remember. 2025 is on a record-setting pace with over 1,200
00:10tornado reports through just the first half of the year, a number that's grown steadily during
00:15the heart of tornado season. This has been one of the most active and intense storm chasing
00:22seasons in my 29-year career with multiple high-impact tornado intercepts from the Great
00:28Plains. We're at the Grinnell exit. A tornado has just crossed the road. There are numerous flip
00:33vehicles. We've got numerous injuries. To the Midwest. It's going to be very close to I-55 here soon.
00:39Throughout the season, I documented 36 tornadoes across 11 different tornado event days. The most
00:44active stretch came between May 14th and May 18th when I observed 13 tornadoes in just five days
00:51from photogenic landspouts in southwest Nebraska to damaging tornadoes in Missouri to one of the
00:57largest tornado outbreaks in Kansas in the last five years. It was a fast-paced, high-stakes week at
01:03the peak of the season. But June 5th delivered the event of the year for me. This large, dusty EF2
01:12tornado west of Lubbock, Texas was one of more than a dozen tornadoes to touch down that day.
01:17Fortunately, that storm spared the heart of Lubbock from those tornadoes, but it unleashed city-wide flash
01:22flooding in its wake. But chasing isn't just about tornadoes. Over 37 different chase days,
01:30I tracked a range of severe weather from giant hail to flash flooding. 22,472 miles, 36 tornadoes, 11
01:39tornado days. All of it in support of AccuWeather's mission, delivering accurate, timely information
01:45when it matters most. For AccuWeather, I'm meteorologist Tony Laubach.
