Shemar Stewart's Agent on Contract Talks With the Bengals
Transcript
00:00Obviously, my job and, you know, all agents' jobs are to protect the players.
00:05And simply put, Shamar would, of course, love for his contract to be as protective
00:10as the rest of his, you know, Bengals teammates in the past.
00:15And, you know, simply put, the way the contract currently reads is not as protective.
00:20In what way is he not protected?
00:23In the way that, you know, when you sign the contract and your money is guaranteed, let's say,
00:30it should be guaranteed.
00:32And if there's, you know, ways to get out of that, it would not be as beneficial to the player.
00:43How easy of a fix is it?
00:45It's simple.
00:46You know, contracts are based on precedent.
00:48So, you know, when Shamar has never, you know, asked for, you know, anything more or less protective
00:54than any of his teammates, it's a simple fix.
00:56It's just say, hey, you know, this is the precedent.
00:59Let's keep the precedent.
01:00So, let's keep, let's not insert new language into the contract.
01:05Let's keep the language, same language that the other players have or the other previous
01:10first-round picks have.
01:11And let's not insert any more language.
01:15Can you share with us?
01:16That makes it less protective for Shamar, correct.
01:18Yeah.
01:18Can you share with us what that specific language is?
01:21Are you able to share that with us?
01:23I mean, it's essentially that when a player signs this contract and it's guaranteed, it
01:30should be completely fully guaranteed.
01:33You know, obviously, if there's certain circumstances that happen, the team should be able to, you
01:38know, voice.
01:39However, you know, again, if you want to make changes to your precedent, right?
01:45It should be a negotiation.
01:46It should be give and take.
01:47It shouldn't just be, hey, we're changing this and stop it or, you know, go scratch.
