Joe Burrow on Trey Hendrickson and Shemar Stewart Holding Out of Bengals Training Camp
Transcript
00:00Yeah, obviously, disappointing. You know, you'd like to have all your guys out there, day one, to try to build that cohesion that I was talking about earlier, but that's not how it usually works out. You know, it's a business, and that is how it's gone.
00:20Is there any frustration on your own that every year there seems to be something along those lines that really can't be going to have any conflict because someone's good?
00:29Yeah, of course, you know, it can be frustrating, but, you know, that's the business of the NFL. That's how things go.
00:37What did you learn from your own contract negotiations that you keep in mind when your teammates are going through them?
00:46I just, I know how it goes. I know how it goes.
00:50Have you spoken to Trey since he decided not to report?
00:54Yeah, me and Trey are in constant contact.
00:55Would you like to see more urgency from both sides, front office and the players, to getting those deals done so they can get here as soon as possible?
01:05Yeah, I think the earlier you get these things done, the better.
01:07Nobody's ever going to fault a player for doing business how he feels he needs to.
01:17It's cutthroat business.
01:21You've got to fight for everything you can get.
01:24That's how it goes.
01:26This is the first time that you've seen a rookie in this situation where he's not showing up at the start of camp.
01:33Is that different, navigating it as the team leader versus a veteran like Trey who's been there, done that?
01:38Yeah, it's certainly new and unique.
01:47You know, I certainly don't have the relationship with Shamar that I do with Trey yet, just because we haven't spent as much time together.
01:54But, you know, he's doing what he feels his best.
01:57He's doing what he feels his best.
