00:00You know, I was in a pass rush, got around, tried to bend a corner.
00:05My foot got caught in the ground, kind of.
00:07It looked kind of nasty, as we all seen.
00:10And in that moment, I felt like a little tiny pop.
00:12I thought it was over.
00:14But thank God he was on my side.
00:16It wasn't that serious.
00:17How did you feel today?
00:19I feel good today.
00:20You know, just taking it one step at a time.
00:23What did you do?
00:25Did some indie, then did some conditioning.
00:28Do you think you're going to be able to play in the season opener next Sunday?
00:32That's not up to me.
00:33You know, that's up to my training staff.
00:35And I'm just trying to take it one day at a time.
00:37Trying to get 1% better every day.
00:38You talked about you felt like you dodged a bullet.
00:40And obviously you did.
00:42Just to be back now, Shamar, and have a chance to get after it and be back soon.
00:46How meaningful is that for you?
00:48Say that one more time?
00:48Say the last part?
00:49How meaningful is it to know you could be back very soon?
00:52Oh, it's very meaningful.
00:53You know, especially all the hard work I put in the offseason.
00:56You know, it sucks that people have their years just gone just like that.
01:03So, I thank God it's not mine.
01:06If that's not my case, you know, I'm not trying to waste the opportunity
01:08because he's definitely looking out for me.
01:10So, I'm just trying to get 1% better, try to keep a good attitude
01:13and get back on the field with my teammates and my brothers.
01:15How frustrating is it still, though, that you missed all the camp,
01:18especially after last year and kind of the spring you had to still miss all the camp?
01:21How frustrating was that?
01:23You know, it sucks.
01:24But, like I said, it could have been a year.
01:26So, who am I to complain?
01:27So, it's definitely inconvenient because I definitely need those reps.
01:33I definitely wanted those reps.
01:36But, at the end of the day, I can't complain.
01:38It could have been a year easily.
01:39So, I'm happy that I'm still able to play football this year.
01:42How did it feel to be out there today?
01:44Oh, it felt good.
01:44You know, I'm around my brother.
01:45You know, I'm always around him anyways.
01:47But, it just feels different when I'm on the field with them.
01:49And the same, in the pads, in the cleats, and everything.
01:52You know, it's just a good feeling.
01:53With you at 100% when you get there, Shamar, year two,
01:57what do you bring to this loaded D-line group?
01:59Man, I'm just trying to come in and do my job.
02:03I'm just trying to do what is asked of me at the best of my ability.
02:07Not nothing more, nothing less.
02:08You know, these great guys, we all got great guys around the D-line.
02:12Around the D-line.
02:13So, if everybody do their job to the best of their ability,
02:17this guy's living for us.
02:18Shamar, with this specific injury with a hyperextension for your knee,
02:23what has been, like, the most challenging part that you've had to overcome
02:26in the rehab process to be able to get back on the field today?
02:32Definitely my flexibility of my knee.
02:35You know, in the early stages, I had, like, a little problem
02:38picking on my knee, stuff like that.
02:40But, you know, I came a long way.
02:42You know, I've been working hard.
02:44You know, I've been wanting to get back out there.
02:46Like, I miss football.
02:47This is what I do.
02:48This is why I feel happiest.
02:50So, I've just been busting my tail trying to get back on the field.
02:53How does the knee feel right now, and how did it feel during practice?
02:57I feel good.
02:58You know, I'm getting there.
02:59I'm not going to say 100%, but I'm getting there.
03:01I'm getting there for sure.
03:03You talked about thinking it was over, you know, when you first went down.
03:06When you got the news that, you know, it was a hyperextension
03:10that you wouldn't be up for nearly as long as you may have thought,
03:12what was the relief in that moment?
03:14Man, I said thank God.
03:16I said thank God because I thought I heard a little tiny pop in there.
03:23You know, I was just happy because even though I'm missing time,
03:27at least it's not a very long time.
03:31So, I was just happy.
03:34Was there a conversation that they couldn't IR you at the beginning of cut-down day?
03:37Was that ever kind of a conversation?
03:39Oh, no.
03:42Shamar, based on what you've gone through from when you got drafted
03:46and all the stuff last offseason to some injuries your rookie year,
03:50and then you have another injury that happens on the first day of camp,
03:53has it made you appreciate just being able to go out there
03:57and play football more now than ever?
03:59Oh, yeah, for sure.
04:00You know, coming from a guy that had never been hurt in college,
04:03you know, being injured is a new thing to me.
04:06And you don't know how much you love and appreciate the game
04:10until you don't have the game no more.
04:12That's a thousand percent.
04:14And your mental goes downhill, your morale go down, your emotions.
04:20You know, it's just a lot to handle.
04:22So, I'm just happy that my return is coming soon, who knows when.
04:30But at least I get to play football this year.
