CM Himanta demands ‘unconditional apology’ from Congress on 50 years of emergency

Guwahati (Assam), June 25, 2025, (ANI): On 50 years of emergency, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma says, "On this day, we demand that the Congress party should offer an unconditional apology to the people of India for imposing dictatorship, imposing emergency on a nation whose history and civilisation is rooted in democracy. Congress party should also and must give an open declaration that they will never bring back the Emergency to our country. Rahul Gandhi must realise and remember that it is his family and his party who have murdered the Constitution, the spirit of the Constitution and the soul of the Constitution.

00:00The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi clumped emergency illegally and even she has gone to the extent of suspending fundamental rights of the people of India.

00:15There was a resistant movement led by Lok Nayak, Jayaprakas Narayan and lakhs of people came out to the street and protested against the so-called declaration of emergency.

00:32Ultimately India triumphed and Prime Minister Indira Gandhi has to withdraw the proclamation of emergency after 21 months.
