00:00The lightsaber is hands down the most iconic weapon in the Star Wars saga.
00:06Lightsabers have been around since the very first Star Wars movie, and they're well known for their many vibrant colors.
00:13Since Disney's canon reset in 2014, however, there's been some confusion as to lightsaber colors and their supposed meanings.
00:22In the next couple of minutes, I'll try to clear up that confusion by talking about what determines a lightsaber's color,
00:28what significance, if any, that color has, and of course, what the range of lightsaber colors is.
00:36Let's start out by establishing what determines the color of a lightsaber.
00:41As you may know, lightsabers are powered by kyber crystals inside their hilts.
00:46These crystals form a bond through the Force with a Jedi or other Force user.
00:52Until a bond has been formed, the crystals are completely clear.
00:56Once they have bonded with a Force user, however, they become colored.
01:02Kyber crystals can have many different colors, but they cannot naturally become red.
01:08Red lightsabers are created through a more sinister process.
01:12To create a red lightsaber, a kyber crystal must be bled by a Force user.
01:17This process involves channeling all of your hatred and anger into the crystal, damaging it, and turning it red.
01:26Bled kyber crystals, however, can be healed by pouring light side energy into them, turning them white.
01:34This is how Ahsoka got her white lightsabers.
01:37Although lightsaber colors had quite a bit of significance in Legends, the color of a lightsaber in canon really doesn't mean much.
01:47Other than the general rule that light side users, or Jedi, have blue or green lightsabers, and red lightsabers belong to Sith or dark side users.
01:58Although even this rule is occasionally broken, like in the case of General Grievous.
02:03Now let's talk about the many different colors of lightsabers.
02:08First up, the very first lightsaber color ever shown on screen, blue.
02:13This is often considered the classic lightsaber color, and is used by notable characters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Rey, Luke, Leia, Ki-Adi Mundi, Barriss Offee, Kanan, Plo Koon, and many more.
02:28Next up is red.
02:29This is the color associated with the bad guys.
02:32It is used by just about every Sith, as well as all the Inquisitors.
02:38Green lightsabers are the second most common among the Jedi, and are wielded by some of the wisest, most powerful Jedi Masters like Yoda and Qui-Gon.
02:48Luke also builds a green lightsaber, which he uses from Return of the Jedi onward.
02:53Purple lightsabers are pretty rare, but are used by a few characters like Mace Windu, Vernestra Roe, and Darth Revan.
03:01Yellow lightsabers are another relatively common color, most notably used by Jedi Temple Guards.
03:10Rey also builds a yellow lightsaber at the end of the Rise of Skywalker.
03:15We should also mention the darksaber, which has a distinct black blade.
03:19It is unclear why it has a black blade, but it is powered by a kyber crystal.
03:26Now, it's important to note that these are not all the colors possible from a lightsaber.
03:31In fact, almost any color can be created by a kyber crystal.
03:35The High Republic books and comics show many colors, besides blue, green, purple, and yellow, being wielded by Jedi.
03:44However, as the Jedi became more closed-minded and uniform, their lightsaber colors became less and less varied and unique.
03:52I also want to mention colon crystals.
03:56These crystals are much like kyber, but they have a few small differences.
04:01When placed in a lightsaber, they can create a low-powered orange blade.
04:07Almost no one actually uses colon-powered lightsabers, but I did think I should mention them.
04:12I really hope you learned something from this video.
04:17If you did, I would really appreciate it if you would subscribe for more Star Wars facts and lore.
04:23Have a great day, and may the Force be with you.
