00:00In the sequel trilogy, Star Wars fans were introduced to a new group of enemies, the Knights of Ren.
00:06Frankly, they were introduced without much explanation or backstory, and many fans are still confused by them.
00:14To solve that, let's take just a couple minutes to clear up exactly who the Knights of Ren are and what they do.
00:21The Knights of Ren are a group of Dark Side users, though their connection to the Force is not as strong as that of the Jedi or Sith,
00:29and they were not formally trained in the use of the Force.
00:33They first emerged during the Imperial Era, taking their name from ancient legends of a group of fierce marauders.
00:41They formed under the leadership of a man who simply went by the name Ren.
00:46They took what they wanted by force and gained a reputation especially in the Unknown Regents.
00:51During the Imperial Era, Kira, the leader of Crimson Dawn, recruited the Knights of Ren to help her in her attempt to overthrow Darth Sidious and the Sith.
01:03Ren, realizing that Sidious would try to destroy the Knights of Ren, along with the other Force-sensitive groups in the galaxy, agreed,
01:11and joined Crimson Dawn and its allies.
01:13During this period, Ren and his Knights managed to loot Fortress Vader and take an ancient artifact,
01:20proving that they were bold enough to attack the Sith head-on.
01:25Obviously, the Knights and their allies failed to destroy the Sith,
01:29but the Empire was later overthrown by the Alliance to restore the Republic.
01:33During the New Republic Era, the Knights continued to roam the galaxy, taking things and looking for new members.
01:40Eventually, they found out that Sidious had survived on the planet Exegol and became loyal to him.
01:48At one point, the Knights came across Luke Skywalker and Ben Solo while they were trying to loot an old Jedi temple.
01:55Thinking they could certainly defeat Luke, the Knights all charged but were defeated by Luke and forced to retreat.
02:02Before they left, however, Ren himself, sensing the dark side in Ben Solo, threw his helmet at Ben's feet,
02:08telling him to seek out the Knights of Ren when he was ready to join them.
02:13As I'm sure you know, Ben eventually fell to the dark side, killing Luke's other students.
02:19Ben found Snoke, who told him about the Knights of Ren and convinced him to join them.
02:26Upon finding the Knights of Ren, he convinced them to allow him to join their ranks.
02:31Soon after, however, Solo was deemed unworthy by Ren.
02:34This, however, unleashed the dark side power within Ben Solo, allowing him to kill Ren.
02:41After killing Ren, Ben took on the new name Kylo Ren and became the leader of the Knights of Ren.
02:49Kylo Ren became a powerful leader in the First Order and the apprentice of Snoke.
02:53Eventually, though, Kylo became frustrated with Snoke, feeling that his master was holding him back,
03:00and murdered Snoke, becoming the new supreme leader.
03:04Obviously, there's a lot more to this story, but I'm trying to focus on the Knights of Ren rather than giving you a complete biography of Kylo.
03:12Anyway, the Knights of Ren became like Kylo's personal bodyguards as the leader of the First Order,
03:19although they were still really loyal to Darth Sidious.
03:23All this brings us to Exegol, where the Knights of Ren end up betraying Kylo when he tries to defeat Darth Sidious.
03:31Kylo, however, is stronger and, with the help of Rey, defeats the Knights of Ren before making the ultimate sacrifice to save Rey's life.
03:38There is, of course, a lot more that we could go into in regards to what Kylo was doing during this era,
03:46but since much of it was without the Knights of Ren, I didn't cover it in this video.
