00:00Walkers are an iconic part of Star Wars.
00:03Whether it's the massive war machines operated by the Empire, or the reconnaissance walkers
00:08of the Galactic Republic, these vehicles are an integral part of the franchise's many
00:14armies.
00:15In this video, I'm about to break down every type of walker in the Star Wars saga.
00:21Let's start out with the classic AT-AT, or all-terrain armored transport.
00:27This walker was an infamous symbol of Imperial military might, and even the sight of it could
00:33strike panic into citizens or even battle-hardened rebel soldiers.
00:39The vehicle was heavily armored, and stood over 22 meters tall.
00:44Its main function was to break through enemy lines using its sheer mass and firepower, and
00:51deliver ground troops contained within its main body.
00:55The AT-AT required a large crew consisting of at least two pilots, a vehicle commander,
01:01an engineer, and several others, not to mention the ground troops it could carry.
01:06The main body contained a troop compartment that could carry up to 40 troopers, as well
01:12as a vehicle compartment that could carry five speeder bikes.
01:17Although the AT-AT was heavily armored, it had a few weak spots that could be destroyed by
01:24fire from rebels or even another AT-AT.
01:29Its neck and underbelly were weaker, but its main armor was completely impervious to blaster
01:36bolts.
01:38Next up, the AT-ACT, or All-Terrain Armored Cargo Transport, was a similar design to the AT-AT,
01:47but had a dedicated cargo bay making it slightly larger.
01:51Next up is the AT-AT's smaller companion, the AT-ST, or All-Terrain Scout Transport.
01:59Unlike the AT-AT, the AT-ST only had two legs, and could move much faster than its larger
02:05counterpart.
02:06The AT-ST had two viewports in its cabin, but these were actually not necessary due to
02:13the extensive sensor array on the walker.
02:17Their main purpose was actually a psychological one, giving enemies the impression that the
02:21the walker was alive, and the viewports were its eyes.
02:26AT-STs were designed to go into terrain that the AT-AT couldn't, and had retractable blades
02:32on its feet to cut through fences or other obstructions on the ground.
02:37Unlike the AT-AT, the AT-ST was not large enough to have a full power generator on board, and
02:43so was powered by a number of smaller power cells.
02:47Because of this, the AT-ST had a limited range, because the power cells would need to be recharged.
02:54As far as actual armament goes, the AT-ST was at a severe disadvantage compared to the AT-AT.
03:01Its weapons were really only effective against small targets, and its armor wasn't effective
03:06against laser cannons or other heavy weapons.
03:09Its armor also didn't cover the whole walker, like the armor on the AT-AT.
03:15Next up, the Imperial AT-DP, or All-Terrain Defense Pod.
03:19The AT-DP was the successor to the Republic's AT-RT, which I'll talk about later.
03:26It only had one weapon, a main cannon on the center of the walker's chin.
03:32It had room for one driver and one gunner.
03:35A main purpose of AT-DPs was for patrolling occupied worlds and keeping citizens in line.
03:43Its armor was really only strong enough to repel basic blaster fire.
03:48Just about anything stronger could destroy it.
03:51AT-DPs are mainly seen in Star Wars Rebels, and are rarely used in actual battles.
03:58Similar in name is the AT-DT, or the All-Terrain Defense Turret.
04:04This walker also stood on two legs, and had one main weapon, a massive cannon that fired
04:10a shot that exploded on impact.
04:13It was designed for long-range strikes before infantry was deployed.
04:18Once it was within range of enemy troops, it lost a lot of its advantages.
04:23The AT-DT couldn't move while firing due to the massive size of the cannon, and its
04:28armor was relatively light.
04:31The Empire also used the AT-FRC, or All-Terrain Force Reconnaissance Walker.
04:38We know almost nothing about this walker, except that it had two legs and was operated by two
04:44troopers.
04:45The predecessor to the AT-ST and AT-DP was the AT-AC, or All-Terrain Armored Cannon.
04:54This two-legged walker was used in the early Imperial era in a similar role as the AT-DP
05:00later on.
05:02It looked somewhat like a cross between the two walkers, with a cockpit that looked a
05:07lot like that of the AT-DP, but weapons that were more similar to the AT-ST.
05:13More rare among the Imperial walkers is the AT-AA, or All-Terrain Anti-Aircraft.
05:21This was a low-to-the-ground walker with four legs, built during the final year of the Clone
05:26Wars, but utilized mostly by the Empire.
05:30Interestingly, its legs extended out from the side of the hull instead of from the bottom,
05:36like most other walkers.
05:38It was operated by one pilot, one gunner, and one commander.
05:43While extremely effective against targets in the air, this walker was particularly vulnerable
05:49to ground attacks, and so was typically used alongside infantry or AT-STs to protect it.
05:58The AT-MP, or All-Terrain Missile Platform, was a walker used to launch missiles at enemies.
06:06It was similar in design to an AT-DP, but had arms protruding from the sides of the cockpit
06:13with missile launchers.
06:15Although the walker had impressive firepower, it had very little agility, and could easily
06:21be destroyed by rebel infantry.
06:25AT-PTs, or All-Terrain Personal Transports, were another type of walker designed during the
06:31Clone Wars, but used mostly by the Imperial Army.
06:37They had two triple-jointed legs, and only had room for one person.
06:43They had two blasters beneath the viewports, similar to an AT-ST.
06:48Now let's shift over to the Republic's walkers, starting with the AT-RT, or All-Terrain Reconnaissance
06:56Transport.
06:57AT-RTs were used for many purposes, such as defense, police support, ground support, scouting
07:05missions, and even post-battle cleanup.
07:08These walkers were small and light, with no covered cockpit and only one laser cannon.
07:14However, that cannon could be switched out for a flamethrower or a rotary blaster cannon,
07:20depending on the mission.
07:22They could move quickly over almost all types of terrain, and were an incredible asset for
07:27scouting missions.
07:29The AT-TE, or All-Terrain Tactical Enforcer, was an enormous walker with six legs.
07:37It had six laser cannons on its body, four facing forward and two facing backward, as
07:43well as an enormous cannon on top.
07:47The walker was slow, but extremely stable and heavily armored.
07:51The mass driver cannon on the top of the walker was an extremely powerful weapon, capable of
07:57intercepting rockets, shooting down aircraft, and bombarding enemy positions.
08:02The large crew consisted of a pilot, a spotter, four gunners, and a turret gunner who sat exposed
08:10on the top of the vehicle.
08:12The walker could also carry up to twenty clone troopers, and some models could even carry
08:17an AT-RT in the back.
08:21The walkers also carried a medical droid on board to tend to injured troopers.
08:26The AT-AP, or All-Terrain Attack Pod, was a long-range artillery walker used by the Galactic
08:34Republic.
08:35The AT-AP had two primary legs, and then a third retractable leg used to steady the vehicle
08:43on unstable terrain, and brace for the recoil from its primary weapon, a long-range mass-driver
08:50cannon, much like the one found on an AT-TE.
08:54The walker also had one heavy laser cannon mounted on a turret on top of the walker, and a heavy
09:00repeating blaster on its underbelly.
09:04The walker was manned by a crew of three clone troopers, one pilot and two gunners.
09:11The AT-OT, or All-Terrain Open Transport, was a walker used by the Republic to transport
09:17large numbers of clone troopers.
09:19It had eight legs, and could carry large numbers of clone troopers.
09:24It had a total of eight cannons on board.
09:26Four laser cannons, two forward-facing cannons, and two rear-facing anti-personnel cannons.
09:33The self-propelled heavy artillery turbolaser was a massive walker with 12 legs.
09:41It was really just a massive mobile turbolaser.
09:44We know very little about it, and it wasn't used very extensively, but we know that each
09:49gun took 30 specially trained clone troopers to operate it.
09:55Now let's move on to first order walkers.
09:59First up is the ATHH, or All-Terrain Heavy Hauler.
10:03These massive vehicles were designed for towing large ground weapons like the siege cannon at
10:10the Battle of Crait.
10:11The walker had a total of 31 legs, and was designed to be able to move, even if several
10:19stopped working.
10:20The ATHS, or All-Terrain Heavy Scout, was a walker designed for the First Order that
10:27didn't actually appear in any of the sequel trilogy movies, but can be seen in LEGO Star Wars,
10:33so I still included it here.
10:36The ATM-6, or All-Terrain Mega-Caliber-6, is just as powerful as its name implies.
10:44It is similar to the AT-80, but much larger, and with more firepower.
10:49The walker's main weapon was a Mega-Caliber-6 turbolaser cannon, capable of breaking through
10:55planetary shields.
10:58These walkers were most notably used at the Battle of Crait.
11:02The ATMA, or All-Terrain Mobile Artillery, was a base defense walker with four legs, used
11:10by the First Order.
11:12It can only be seen in the background of The Force Awakens and isn't very prominent, but
11:17it is also mentioned in a few reference books.
11:21The ATPD, or All-Terrain Patrol Droid, had four legs and two heavy laser cannons.
11:28It was used by the First Order to patrol bases, especially Starkiller Base.
11:33It was not mass-produced, and was mainly used on Starkiller Base to protect critical facilities.
11:40I do also want to mention a couple walkers not associated with any of these major factions.
11:46First, the Storm Walker was a walker used by the Nile in the High Republic.
11:52It appears to be remarkably similar to the AT-ST, two legs supporting a cockpit with twin laser
11:58cannons protruding from it.
12:00I also need to mention the massive walker seen in The Bad Batch.
12:05Found by members of The Bad Batch, the walker was built by an ancient culture and had insane
12:10amounts of firepower, though we know almost nothing else about it.
12:15The Rothana Experimental Walker was a prototype on display at the Republic Fair on Vallow.
12:22We don't really know what it looked like, but it is a walker, so I felt like I needed to
12:26at least mention it.
12:28Also, the Separatist Alliance, you may have noticed, was not mentioned in this video, and
12:34that is because most of the vehicles that could be considered walkers are technically droids.
12:42So I have covered them in my video on every droid in the Separatist army, which I will
12:48link here.
12:50And that's it.
12:51That is every walker in Star Wars.
12:53If you're still watching at this point, thank you so much.
12:57I would really appreciate it if you subscribed, especially if you learned something new in this
13:01video.
13:02Have a great day, and may the force be with you.
