00:00Hello and welcome to another edition of Look Around London.
00:03Big Ben is one of London's most famous landmarks, but did you know Big Ben isn't the tower
00:09itself, it's the nickname for the Great Bell, housed inside the Elizabeth Tower, located
00:15at the north end of the Palace of Westminster.
00:18The tower was completed in 1859, after a fire destroyed much of the original Parliament
00:24building in 1834. Designed by architect Charles Barry, with gothic detailing by Augustus Pugin,
00:32the tower stands at 96 metres tall. The Great Bell, Big Ben, weighs over 13 tonnes and first
00:40ran out in July of 1859. Despite cracks and repairs, its deep chime remains a symbol of
00:48British resilience. In 2012, the tower was renamed the Elizabeth Tower to honour Queen
00:54Elizabeth.
