00:00What's next? I think, J.Y., there are two possible paths for Memphis to walk following the Bain deal.

00:07I'll just say off the bat, why I like how Memphis did in this deal, I like both options.

00:12I think either option's awesome for this team.

00:16But let me go to you. What were you alluding to?

00:18What are you thinking as Memphis makes that move, trading Desmond Bain away?

00:22When you look at a team that had 48 wins in an eighth in the West,

00:26look at the fact that Zach Eady, who had a really good rookie year, is already out for next year.

00:30We don't know when Jalen Wells comes back.

00:33You're now, at this point, in my opinion, a middling team in the West, right?

00:39Thunder are going to be better next year. Rockets should be better.

00:41I think the Lakers are going to be better. Nuggets should be better.

00:43Clippers, I still think. Minnesota. Like, all these teams.

00:46Warriors only when you're like, when are they going to fall off the cliff?

00:49So right then and there, I've named six, if not seven teams that are better than you next year.

00:54And you expect some kind of jump from either Sacramento and definitely something out of San Antonio.

01:00So when those things come into play, I'm saying, I've always said this, either you're winning or you're rebuilding.

01:06That's why I've had a problem with the Atlanta Hawks for the last four years, because they've been stuck in the middle.

01:12You don't want a middle list. You have to make, there's got to be another move.

01:17The question is, is it Ja or is it Jared Jackson Jr.?

01:21I think it's Jared Jackson Jr. because I think, number one, the popularity that Ja has still in Memphis,

01:27still, if you're not a winning team, could still sell you tickets.

01:30But I also think Jared Jackson Jr. has its ability as a stretch four or in a right system, a five,

01:36can probably net you more in return than Ja because of Ja's off-court problems.

01:42A team that drafts well, a team that knows that they're stuck right now in a middling spraise.

01:48If I'm Memphis, Tom, I'm looking to trade Jared Jackson Jr. next.

01:52He should have been traded this year, honestly.

01:55I see no path forward.

01:59And I assume there are two paths, the paths that you're talking about are, one, hard tank.

02:03Okay.

02:04And two, would be like, eh, let's see what we do.

02:06And if we get to the trade deadline and we're kind of, then we lose it,

02:08then we'll just trade Jaron Jackson and then we'll tank from there.

02:13Yeah.

02:14No, my two options are not tank immediately or tank eventually.

02:19Tank a couple hours later.

02:22Get rid of Jaron Jackson.

02:24I don't think this team has any shot at competing in the West next year.

02:27I literally, I don't think there's a shot.

02:30I think Portland's a sneaky good team.

02:32They played significantly better than a lot of people anticipated.

02:34And although they're not going to make the playoffs next year,

02:37they're a team that's going to cause a lot of teams fits.

02:39And again, with what we get from San Antonio, I just don't see a path forward for Memphis.

02:45I just, I don't like what they have in store and they just don't have enough depth

02:49to compete for anything greater than a play-in season.

02:53So, all right.

02:55Let's do the couple steps back overview of the Memphis Grizzlies.

03:00Memphis, three seasons ago, or four, the 21-22 season, okay?

03:08They won 56 games.

03:10They were their two seed.

03:12Now, does anyone remember what happened?

03:14What, Patrick?

03:15Now, that Grizzlies team, right, did end up, you know, I think they went around

03:21and I think then they got, Jai got injured and they lost to Golden State that year, right?

03:27But the next year, they win 51 games again.

03:30They get eliminated in round one.

03:31That was the Lakers and LeBron.

03:34But all of a sudden, it's like, whoa, this Grizzlies team's ready.

03:37Then Jai runs into all his issues.

03:39He's never healthy on top of that.

03:41And then Desmond Bain's not really healthy.

03:44And then Jaron, maybe a little here and there.

03:46And all of a sudden, it's like, ah, does any of this work?

03:48Those two are both right now 25 years old.

03:53Will be 26 entering next season.

03:56Shea is 26 this year.

03:59And all we talk about is how young the Thunder are.

04:02I do not, I think it's totally fine, Tom.

04:05You're correct that currently, as constructed, Memphis isn't winning the West next season.

04:09You're absolutely right.

04:10I don't think they're a borderline playoff team at best.

04:12So that I don't agree with.

04:13Okay.

04:14Unless Jai, which would be fair, gets injured as always, that's fair.

04:18But this was a team that was avoiding the play in almost all year.

04:22And then, obviously, the bottom fell out in a crazy way.

04:25Jenkins gets fired.

04:26They still won 48 games.

04:28They were two games back of the Lakers, who were the three seed in the Western Conference.

04:34So I think that this team's options are trade Jaron Jackson Jr.

04:39I'm never trading Jai.

04:40You're not going to get the return on it.

04:42They adore him.

04:44And you don't need to trade Jai in order to miss the playoffs and get good lottery picks.

04:50Okay?

04:51Trade Jaron Jackson Jr., see what's out there, because it might be a lot.

04:55Knicks apparently are going to kick the tires.

04:57I could see the Spurs wanting involved in that race.

04:59The Rockets.

05:00I think all those teams could be really, really interested.

05:04The other option is the complete other way, where now they have all these Orlando assets,

05:10plus their own assets, and they can maybe get themselves in the race for a star.

05:14The second they completed the Bain deal, they called.

05:17Hey, KD, what are our chances?

05:19Now, they're out, because KD just wants to go to Miami or Texas.

05:22But I think you have a Grizzlies team now with a really well-run front office, really good

05:29at drafting.

05:30They either can take small shots in the draft continuously, Tom, or they can take a big swing

05:36and hope that eventually they could upgrade on a Desmond Bain.
