00:00So we're here today to celebrate organisations coming together to offer some sport and sporting opportunities to the schools across the Walsh End area.
00:08We've invited Year 6 from primary schools to come along and have a try at some new sports that they might not have done before or to just try some traditional games.
00:18The idea is that these organisations have come together to offer a really good service to schools.
00:23They're showcasing what they can offer and then can offer this as after school activities or PPA time within schools.
00:30So it's about local organisations delivering to local children.
00:34On this gorgeous study day, I'm at Sporting Walsh End, the brainchild of Walsh End Active School Partnership,
00:39where eight schools across North Tyneside have came together to take part in the North East's biggest sports day.
00:45280 Year 6 students across the borough are taking part in six different sports for National Schools Sports Week.
00:53CricketU is an organisation that delivers accessible and inclusive cricket sessions across the North East.
00:57So we work with children, families, all the girls and everything in between.
01:02Our youngest client is three years old and the oldest is 104.
01:06I grew up in India, just loved cricket, used to play it everywhere.
01:09And then when I came to Newcastle in 2018 for uni, just felt that that kind of holistic cricket support is not here.
01:17You cannot just pick up a bat and ball and play.
01:20There's obviously that club system and we wanted to make sure that cricket could be more democratic than that.
01:25Cricket could be for everyone.
01:26So that's the idea behind CricketCube.
01:28Even if you don't have the time and money to play cricket at a club, you can still play the beautiful game.
01:34Today, I've got four coaches with me.
01:36The idea is that we're delivering the cricket sessions for kids.
01:39So many of them might not have to play cricket at school because it's kind of disappearing from state schools.
01:44So the idea is that we can introduce cricket to a new generation of players.
01:49And hopefully some of them will take up cricket and they'll join their local club or join some of our sessions as well.

01:56I'm the Sporting Community Development Officer for Sporting Walls End and Walls End Boys Club.
02:00But my role at Walls End Boys Club and Sporting Walls End is to develop a programme of activity that young people can come and take part in.
02:09Part of the initiative today is to bring all the schools together who we work with on a weekly basis.
02:14Bring them together and give them an opportunity to take part in sport this afternoon.
02:19As you can see, we've got a range of different activities happening.
02:21So it's a really good opportunity for them to come down, take part in sport, meet new friends and have fun.
02:26Yeah, I think it's great because it gives children the opportunity to come and meet people that they might not necessarily meet.
02:33They might not hang about with, but sport brings people together.
02:36Ultimately, here today, there's no barriers.
02:38It doesn't matter whether you've got money, you haven't got money, colour of your skin, background, anything like that.
02:42It's just a good opportunity to bring everyone together.
02:45Yeah, no, this is the first time we've done it.
02:47We've came together with three different partner organisations to put this event on.
02:51But it'll be great to see even bigger next year and have a range of different age groups.
02:54We've only got year sixes here today, but we'd like to extend that all the school age groups.
