Hi, I'm Susie Waugh and I'm a singer-songwriter from the Black Country.
00:04
Can you tell us about your new album?
00:07
Yeah, sure. So the new album is called Black Lights
00:09
and it's an album that celebrates the creativity within the Black Country.
00:14
So it's full of stories and songs about people, places, landscapes
00:20
and was inspired by some of the Black Country creatives that I've met and come across over the last few years
00:27
and it's been a joy, a joy to make.
00:30
And you're launching the album here at the Workers' Institute?
00:32
I am, yes. I am going to be here on the 4th of July, the evening of the 4th of July
00:36
and I'm going to have some spoken words, some lovely local poets are going to be joining me.
00:43
I have a band joining me as well and it's going to be a really lovely event
00:47
so I feel absolutely chuffed to bits that I'm able to come to this wonderful building.
00:52
Can you play something to give people a taste of what they can expect?
00:55
Yeah, absolutely.
00:57
So this is a song that was written and inspired by Liz Berry
01:02
and her great aunt who was sent off to Nova Scotia as a home child.
01:09
So this one is called Home Child.
01:10
