00:03Claycross Active, the much-anticipated leisure centre and community hub, has opened its doors to the public today.
00:09It replaces the former Charlie Park Leisure Centre and offers a modern space designed to meet the needs of all ages and abilities.
00:15It includes a 25-metre swimming pool with learner pool and spectator seating,
00:19fully equipped fitness and spin studios,
00:22a large sports hall for team games and events,
00:26soft play area and interactive area,
00:28a community cafe and a tag-active arena for children over 8-plus and adults.
00:34North East Derbyshire District Council says the centre will also become a hub for the community,
00:38providing employment and volunteering opportunities, as well as attracting visitors and boosting the local economy.
00:45Derbyshire County Council's programme of housekeeping of the dual carriageways they are responsible for starts next month.
00:52The work includes cutting the grass on the central reservations and at the side of the roads,
00:55trimming back trees and shrubs to improve visibility,
00:59emptying gullies and drains,
01:01carrying out pothole and other repairs where needed,
01:03and any of the bits of maintenance work that need carrying out.
01:07The County Council will be working with the District and Borough Cancels,
01:10who will be picking up litter at the side of the road or in the central reservation at the same time,
01:14while traffic management is in place.
01:16Major routes included on the list for maintenance include the A61,
01:20the A619 Markham Road and the A617 from the Junction 29 of the M1.
01:26Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Potholes, Highways and Transport,
01:30Councillor Charlotte Hill said,
01:31This annual programme of maintenance means that we can carry out lots of different jobs at the same time.
01:36We try to schedule any road closures to be outside of peak times
01:40to minimise inconvenience for those that are using these routes.
