00:00Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.

00:03A Derbyshire couple has been hit with a £3,000 fine for a noise nuisance caused by their barking dogs.

00:10Bolsover District Council successfully prosecuted the couple of Mansfield Road in Glapwell

00:14for breaching a noise abatement notice which disturbed residents' peace and enjoyment of their homes.

00:20The council received a noise complaint regarding barking dogs in October 2023

00:24and after investigation found that multiple dogs were left to bark for extensive periods.

00:30The couple were issued with an abatement notice giving them 21 days to comply.

00:34However the noise nuisance continued and the defendants breached the notice.

00:39Bolsover District Council Cabinet Member for the Environment, Councillor Rob Heine Saunders said

00:43Barking comes naturally to dogs but the owners had the opportunity to deal with the situation and failed to do so

00:49so we took action.

00:50The noise caused by these dogs caused a great lived disruption and distress to the local residents and the neighbourhood.

00:56It simply was not fair.

00:58This is a clear message we want to send to people that dog owners must take responsibility for their pets

01:03and the noise nuisances of any nature will not be tolerated.

01:09New lighting and a partial re-roofing are proposed for Chesterfield Market Hall

01:13under planning application submitted to the Borough Council.

01:15The council is applying for listed building consent from its planning department to replace façade lights

01:21in line with current standards and install additional complementary heritage lighting.

01:26An application submitted by Ben Mitchell on behalf of the council

01:29stated there had been various public consultations and engagement sessions with market traders,

01:34residents and businesses about wider town centre improvements.

01:38Lighting of public areas is key to safety and the operation of the town centre.
