As the country awaits Wednesday's Mid-Year Review, the People's National Movement is gearing up for its internal elections , amid budget warnings, political jabs, and accusations of backroom slates.
The comments were made in San Fernando, where the party's "One PNM" slate made its latest stop on Saturday.
00:00The party rolled into San Fernando City Hall on Saturday night, but behind the music and speeches were warnings of chaos both in and out of Parliament.
00:10And you know what it'll be? Drama, Bacchanal and lies. Because they will use their time to create a narrative that is so untrue and so loud and feeds the frenzy for Bacchanal that they will make you think twice about who you are and what your name is.
00:33The prediction from Opposition Senator Faris al-Rawi, who is anticipating fireworks when Finance Minister Davindranath Tanku presents the Medea Review on Wednesday.
00:43You're about to go into the highest budget this country has ever seen, $63 billion. And that is going to be a massive debt, a deficit.
00:58And I want you to understand that when the money is not there to pay for it, that they will try and say all manner of things about the PNM.
01:09The government is being accused of reckless dismissals in key state entities.
01:14And Opposition Senator Faris al-Rawi is laying the blame squarely on Public Utilities Minister, Barry Padarath.
01:21Have you seen Barry Padarath in action? I see social media refers to him as the little butcher. Barry the little butcher. But the butchering is not a little thing.
01:36I have in all of my years, 15 years in the Parliament, 29 years in the PNM going on 30 years, I have never seen someone salivate at the thought of bussing troops.
01:54Beyond the budget, the PNM is also heading into internal elections on Sunday, June 22nd.
02:01The party's annual convention follows one week later, on June 29th.
02:06While leader of the opposition Penelope Beckles remains uncontested for political leader, Dr. Amory Brown warned of another group operating behind the scenes.
02:15It is my observation that there is another slate that doesn't have a leader with a face, or a leader who is brave enough to step forward, but they are also offering themselves, claiming to be independent.
02:35They are genuine independent. Some of them are sitting here in this audience, brave enough to join us, and I respect you.
