00:00Good afternoon. My name is Phil Hewitt, Group Hearts Editor at Sussex Newspapers and also
00:07Chairman of the Festival of Chichester. And we're thrilled that we have at this year's
00:10Festival of Chichester, Toesel Row. You are playing at the Pavilion, Gradingwell Park,
00:16Chichester, Saturday, July the 5th at six o'clock. And Simon, tell me a bit about the
00:22kind of music that you sing.
00:23Well, we sing such a wide range of music. I mean, I've trained musical theatre and opera
00:31and I've done some Kabbalah stuff in the past. But, you know, most of my music is on stage
00:39performance music. And Karen comes from a different area and we meet very much in the crossover
00:46genre, the American Songbook, Musical Theatre, Disney, James Bond, you know.
00:56And Karen, Simon would say obviously a vast range of music, but you also have a vast range
01:02of audiences and situations where you perform, don't you?
01:06Yeah. Gosh, we do a lot of alfresco gigs as the pavilion is hopefully going to be if it's
01:14nice weather. But we do care homes. We love doing care homes. And we do busking opportunities,
01:24festivals, restaurants, theatres. We're doing, you know, a couple coming up, we're doing the
01:31Armed Forces Day, over in South Sea. So we did many different performances.
01:39Karen, you must get a lovely response from audiences.
01:43Oh, it's, it still amazes me now, all these years on, how you can sing something that will
01:51evoke memories for everyone. You know, we, like I say, care homes. And it's wonderful to see
01:57people sitting there and listening and remembering. Just the same as in an audience, someone to
02:05be singing along or videoing, even moved emotionally, you know, is...
02:12Oh, it sounds great. The lovely thing is that this started in dark circumstances in some ways,
02:18isn't it? This was born during the pandemic.
02:20Yes. Yeah. Yeah, we, we wanted to sing. So we decided to do some streaming online,
02:28thought it was a good opportunity for us to take time out to learn music that we can both
02:32do together. And we did our first few, few performances together, you know, 20 miles apart.
02:40Brilliant. Well, fantastic that you're back.
02:44Not quite our first performance here, but the first performance is at Tissola, yeah.
02:48Yeah. Brilliant. Well, really good that you're back at the Festival of Chichester,
02:52as I say, the Pavilion, Groeningwell Park, Chichester, Saturday, July the 5th at 6pm,
02:58when you'll be joined by sax and piano as well. Good to speak to you both.
03:02And I hope you have a great time.
03:05Thank you very much, Phil. Thank you.
