South Park Loves Inserting Real Fans Into Episodes

00:00Have you always dreamed of being a character on South Park?

00:03Well, unless you're a politician, an annoying celebrity, or a rock star,

00:06chances are you'll never be immortalized in an episode of the long-running animated show.

00:10Or so we thought.

00:11South Park Studios recently announced a Become a Permanent Resident of South Park contest.

00:16One lucky winner will get the opportunity to be animated into a custom South Park character

00:20and appear in the new 2025 season.

00:22Fans can enter the contest by donating to the SoCal Fire Fund.

00:25But upon reflection, South Park actually has a long history of inserting real fans into episodes

00:30and more than one random character turned out to be a real person.

00:33For starters, in 2003, a random kid named Alex Glick showed up

00:37and even delivered the episode's ultimate moral before breaking the fourth wall

00:40and revealing that he was there to do a guest voice thingy.

00:43According to South Park Studios, Glick was the highest bidder at a charity auction

00:47to benefit AIDS research and won a guest spot on the show.

00:50Then in 2009, they held a Become a South Park Citizen sweepstakes

00:53with the winner getting to appear in the 14th season premiere.

00:56Again, rather than try to hide the winner in the background,

00:59the victorious fan, Matthew Kilner, got to be front and center,

01:02this time in the episode's opening credit sequence.

01:04He's the random guy smiling and waving with Stan, Kyle, Carpenter, and Kenny,

01:07much to the confusion of fans watching the show now.

01:10Then in 2017, Trey Parker and Matt Stone offered up a South Park cameo

01:14slash eternal life in order to raise money for Next for Autism.

01:18The winner, Hugh, showed up in two episodes,

01:20and his animated avatar even got to host a symposium on ManBearPig.

01:24And in 2020, a teenager battling brain cancer named Seth Furman

01:27showed up in South Park's pandemic special thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

01:31He can be seen Zooming with Cartman and his friends in the episode,

01:33which aired just two months before Furman passed away.

01:36Pretty cool tradition they've got.

01:37So who will it be this time?
