00:13telling us just how well everything was going in the country.

00:20Mr Speaker, every day it becomes clearer.
00:23It is Labour, and only Labour, that has a credible plan for the renewal of Britain.
00:30Well, I've no doubt you're all feeling renewed at home
00:34after nearly a year of this Labour government.
00:37Now, responding on behalf of the Conservatives,
00:40the shadowed Chancellor, Mel Stride, made one or two quite strong points.
00:45He made them rather well, actually.
00:46This spending review is not worth the paper that it is written on.
00:52Because the Chancellor has completely lost control.
00:56This is the spend now, tax later review.
01:02Because the Right Honourable Lady knows she will need to come back here in the autumn
01:07with yet more taxes.
01:09And a cruel summer of speculation awaits.
01:14How can we possibly take this Chancellor seriously
01:17after the chaos of the last 12 months?
01:20Well, it's funny how each side throws that word chaos at each other.
01:27I think they're both fairly guilty of that.
01:29What did I see today?
01:30I saw massive promises for huge increases in health spending,
01:35proposed cuts in various departments, which may or may not happen,
01:39big promises on a reduction of what we'd have to spend
01:42on illegal people crossing the Channel claiming asylum.
01:46But really, overall, I didn't see an awful lot today.
01:52What I do think is here's a government whose spending is out of control.
01:57And I think, personally, inevitably, taxes, indeed tax burden,
02:03will have to rise when it comes to the budget in the autumn.
02:05That's my view.
