Reeves: This government will build an economy that works for working people, and rewards working people.
Transcript
00:00Britain's economy isn't broken but I do know that it's not working well enough
00:04for working people. Bills are too high and you feel that you're putting more in
00:08but you're getting less out and that has to change. Britain's got huge potential
00:12we've got world-leading brands, dynamic industries, brilliant universities, a
00:17skilled workforce. We're fixing the foundations and that has been my mission
00:21the last year. That's why we raised the minimum wage for three million people.
00:24It's why we've cut NHS waiting lists and it's why we are tearing up our
00:29planning rules so we can actually build the one and a half million homes that
00:33families in Britain need. But there are still challenges. The cost of living
00:38pressures I know are still very real. We need to bring inflation and borrowing
00:42costs down and we do that by keeping a tight grip on day-to-day spending and by
00:48enforcing my non-negotiable fiscal rules. Renewal is our mission and growth is our
00:55challenge. Investment and reform are our tools. The tools to build an economy that
01:01works for you and your family and rewards you. More pounds in your pocket, an NHS
01:06that is there when you need it and opportunities for all including your kids
01:10and grandkids. Those are my priorities as your Chancellor. They're the priorities of
01:15the British people and it is what I am absolutely determined to deliver.
