29:51the survey asked almost one thousand area tenth graders their perceptions of drug

29:55abuse in bay county the students answers show that bay county kids are doing more drugs

30:00more frequently than their peers nationwide

30:04their survey also surprisingly reveals that bay county girls are at greater risk

30:09than boys it's in the area of drug usage our females outscored our males

30:15in bay county it seems like our girls are a little more aggressive than our boys

30:19and so this is this was another surprise for us and um something that uh is a doesn't become a

30:27protective factor but becomes a risk the survey isn't all bad news though local students are

30:32starting to experiment at a later age than the national average and researchers found that peer

30:38pressure doesn't play the role that they thought it did in teen drug abuse the most important factor

30:43the survey reveals is whether a child has a caring adult around we have to have the help of our

30:49community and if our community can be giving them the same message wherever they go whether it's in

30:55the school the church at home this is what's going to make a difference we we just cannot do the job

31:02alone it's it's become too big that's fox's derek slap reporting continuing our fox focus teenagers

31:09may be getting much more than just an education at school fox's andy shore goes on campus to see if schools

31:15are rampant with drugs their clothes are of better quality their food is more nutritious and unlike

31:24their parents generation today's kids mingle with a man who wears a gun and a badge school resource

31:30officers are common on today's campuses so is alcohol marijuana and cocaine in the six years i think

31:37maybe i have had uh other than alcohol i've had maybe five or six cases that i've i've had to deal with

31:45with actual drugs i've even had a couple on the elementary school levels deputy black adds that

31:51while the number of drug cases is small compared to larger schools abuse of alcohol and prescription

31:57drugs is growing a young person came to school is taking whitalin as a medication he was passing it around

32:07to some other students and they would crush it up and and inhale it or snort it as it's referred to

32:13to just to see what it does you know how do we try and handle the problem of kids and drugs first as a

32:20parent take the time to be with your child and know the signs such as a change in grades attitude and

32:27friends if that occurs contact somebody don't be afraid to ask for help okay we're all in it together

32:34okay and we all have to work together to raise our kids for fox focus on generation excess i'm andy shore
