00:00How special is tonight for you?
00:03It's the Tonys.
00:04You know, it doesn't get pretty much more special than that for me.
00:08The Oscars for Sam, the Tonys for me.
00:11So I'm just happy that everybody seems to be in a very good mood
00:15and we're all excited about whatever occurs tonight.
00:18I think that we have a little more,
00:21there's something about this community that makes us a little more altruistic
00:27in terms of being happy for everybody
00:30instead of just, oh, me, me, me.
00:33So I'm happy about that.
00:34You said Samuel L. Jackson.
00:36The Oscars are for him, the Tonys are for you.
00:38How do you guys support each other during each of your respective seasons?
00:41We do that.
00:42Even though he's sitting over there,
00:44I reminded him that usually when he's doing his interviews,
00:48I'm standing behind him.
00:51He said, I'm older than you.
00:53So you're going to give him some notes.
00:55I'm, anyway, we support each other because we're supporting the thing.
01:01So we're here.
01:02Oh, look at Danielle.
01:04Everyone looks so gorgeous tonight.
01:05And you're a Tony nominee.
01:07Talk to me about nomination morning.
01:10Where were you when you found out?
01:11What went through your mind?
01:12You know, I was asleep nomination morning.
01:14And I woke up and actually,
01:16I had forgotten to even tell Sam that I had been nominated
01:19because our daughter called looking for her Kendrick Lamar ticket.
01:22She said, he's not answering the phone.
01:25I said, okay, let me call him.
01:27So I called him and said, you know, do you have her tickets?
01:31She said, I told her where those tickets were.
01:32And I hung up the phone.
01:34Then he calls me back and said,
01:36why didn't you tell me you were nominated for a tour?
01:38And I went, oh, because I was on Mommy.
01:41You know, I'm.
01:43Mom brain.
01:44Mom brain.
01:44It's true.
01:45You have kids?
01:46No, I don't.
01:47But I've heard.
01:48I heard that it's a very real phenomenon.
01:49And let me tell you something.
01:51When they call or click in, no matter what age,
01:54you immediately go into that.
01:55And that's all you can do.
01:57So.
01:58How special is it to be a part of this Broadway season?
02:00A lot of people have been calling it especially thrilling.
02:03So why is that?
02:04It is.
02:04I think that a lot.
02:06Well, Brandon Jacob Jenkins play, first of all, for me, purpose.
02:11He's the most consequential writer of our time right now, I think.
02:14And so that makes it extra special for me.
02:17But there's so many good shows right now.
02:21And so many artists who showed up to come and be a part of this season.
02:25From Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal doing Othello and, you know, Clooney.
02:31And everybody is coming in to, oh, the little girl.
02:35I don't want to call her a little girl because I love her so much.
02:38Sarah, John Proctor.
02:40I love her.
02:41I love Boop, Jasmine and Boop.
02:44All these young people are showing up to come and be a part of something that we hope will continue.
02:49Live theater.
02:51You know, it's a thing.
02:53So this Broadway season was just stellar.
02:55And then add robots to it.
02:58The technology.
02:59The technology.
03:00So.
