00:00And we take a look at the tail of the tape for our main event.
00:14Juko Nakatani not enjoying the type of size advantage that we're used to seeing him with here tonight.
00:21He certainly will have a height and reach advantage, but it's not as extreme as it has been throughout his career
00:27as he rips a couple uppercuts here in the early going.
00:30They are not wasting any time, Nakatani and Nishida.
00:35Yeah, Corey, heading into this fight, I wondered how each of these guys would react to,
00:38for the first time in a long time, not having a marked height and length advantage over their opponent at the bantamweight level.
00:46And it turns out, Nakatani is going to address that by just walking straight forward and doing what he does.
00:53I mean, really everything about this fight is uncommon.
00:58It's a little unusual.
00:59Two Japanese fighters facing one another in a unification bout.
01:03We mentioned that's only happened four times.
01:05Two southpaws going at it.
01:08As Nakatani rips another uppercut on the inside.
01:11And that right hook scored and scored well.
01:13Two tall southpaws who can each fight from a distance,
01:17but are also comfortable closing the gap and moving forward.
01:20The big difference between them, Corey, is the punching power.
01:24And that is more than an equalizer.
01:30Double uppercut there from Nakatani.
01:37Nishida quite possibly one of the more underrated world champions in boxing today,
01:41perhaps because of the short career, but nice body shot there from Nishida.
01:45That's what I was about to say, Corey.
01:47That's the same shot that ended his last fight, that sort of half-bolo left uppercut to the body.
01:52And it got Nakatani's attention immediately.
01:56Absolute firefight here in the early going.
01:58The whole tenor of this first round changed after that body shot.
02:04From a guy in Nishida who is not really known as a power puncher.
02:07The greatness of Nishida's offense is in its simplicity.
02:18Yes.
02:18In really how fast to the target it is.
02:20He is tight.
02:21He is compact.
02:23And that was one of the questions in this fight.
02:26Can he get to the body of Nakatani?
02:28And can he do work on the inside without paying a tax that's too hefty?
02:32You see he went back to that punch because there's an opening for it.
02:35There's a lane for it.
02:40And until Nakatani makes the adjustment, he's going to keep throwing it.
02:45And that punch naturally opens up the lane, too, for his right hook.
02:50For Nishida's right hook.
02:51On the inside there from Nishida.
02:53Lands a chopping left hand.
02:55And they trade shots on the inside.
03:01Nishida doing what no one else has seemed to want to do.
03:04And that's just stand toe-to-toe with Junto Nakatani.
03:12This is what you want a world title unification fight to look like.
03:17And that's what you want a world title.
03:41And that's what you want a world title.
03:44Lineal champion in this division as well.
03:57Corey, one of my subplots heading into this fight is the fact that
04:01Nishita headed into this fight with just over 4,200 Instagram followers.
04:06He picked up 20 followers in the last round, 25 followers.
04:10He's up to almost 4,600 overnight.
04:12But 100 of those since we've been on the air.
04:15We referenced him as maybe the most underrated world champion in the sport today.
04:23Part of that, of course, is the shadow of the talent in the country surrounding him,
04:28also in the division that he's within, and then the shadow that looms over this fight.
04:33But you look at that first round, Morgan, and don't print those tickets for Nakatani Inouye quite yet.
04:39And we have seen this happen so many times in boxing.
04:43We just saw it happen last week with Caleb Plant losing to Armando Resendiz.
04:47You think you're setting up some semifinals, and you think you're building up to a final 6 or 9 or 12 months away.
04:53And one of these other fighters has other plans.
04:56As short as Nishita's career has been.
04:58You look at the wins that he's piled up.
05:00Of course, the title defense last time out, the title winning effort against Manny Rodriguez.
05:07Good shot there from Nakatani.
05:09That early career win against Diego Higa.
05:12He's done a lot in 10 fights.
05:14He deserves to be here, and it looks like he belongs right now.
05:17Diego Higa, that was 12 rounds in his third pro fight.
05:19If you're looking for an illustration of how quickly this guy has moved, how quickly he has developed, and how thoroughly.
05:29This is what Nishita could do.
05:31He could just wedge his way to the inside with that tight defense, the short shots, and the good body work.
05:39Nakatani trying to pierce through that with those uppercuts.
05:41He's had some success in doing so.
05:43But Nishita could do that very well.
05:47He could catch shots on the elbows and counter right off of them.
05:50Good clubbing shot there from Nakatani.
05:55And I'd expected a lot more of a boxing match, at least in the early going.
06:00Partly because I believed what Nishita told our man Anson Wainwright from The Ring Magazine.
06:06I think that taking a measured and tactical approach against Nakatani is the way to result in a victory for me.
06:11Big left hand over the top.
06:14That has been a fight-ending shot throughout his career for Nakatani.
06:18I was going to say, and this aggression is a tactic, but I would not describe it as measured.
06:28He has decided that the best way to beat, the best way to Nakatani is through Nakatani.
06:34Again, which is a tactic most people will not employ for very good reason, because he's such a thunderous puncher with that left hand.
06:40Big left hand over the top.
06:45Excellent timing there from Nakatani as he triples up on these uppercuts twice.
06:50You notice what happened when Nakatani landed that overhand left was that Nishita was trying to throw that left uppercut to the body again.
06:59And Nakatani just timed it.
07:01He knew he'd get him leaning.
07:05Nakatani countering Nishita's best shot with his best shot.
07:10So even in the midst of this brawl, there's a fascinating tactical back and forth happening.
07:15That's a fun six minutes of boxing as we head back.
07:24So even if he was stuck again, he was just gonna throw that down.
07:27Winter?
07:28He didn't make it.
07:29He was like, boy, he got my cock call off.
07:31He's like, boy, I'll let him have an enemy back.
07:33So I have no idea.
07:35You can't wait or wait.
07:37I'm not sure.
07:37He's like, boy, I'll get you.
07:38He's like, boy.
07:39I can't wait.
07:40I can't wait.
07:40I can't wait.
07:41I can't wait.
07:42I can't wait.
07:44I can't wait.
07:45Yeah?
07:46So you can't wait.
07:48I can't wait.
07:49I can't wait.
07:52Round three underway.
08:22A warm ovation from the audience.
08:25He is loving this one so far.
08:28That was a big round for Junto Nakatani.
08:31After a fairly even opening round, Nakatani clearly landing the eye-catching shots in round two.
08:37But back comes Nishida with one of his own.
08:40Yeah, and I think one of the things that has opened up for Nishida because of those left uppercuts to the body is that he can throw that left hand over the top.
08:48As Nakatani is thinking about defending that right side of his ribcage.
08:54Speaking of uppercuts, you might have heard in Nakatani's corner as Coach Rudy Hernandez telling him to switch it up.
09:00Telling him that Nishida is expecting the uppercuts now.
09:04And at a high level like this, Morgan, that's really what you fear the most is falling into a familiar pattern.
09:10Right.
09:10Especially against a puncher of the caliber on either side of this fight.
09:15Absolutely.
09:15That's what we saw in the last fight with Santillan falling into that pattern of throwing the left hooks.
09:21And Nusikawa just letting that left hand go.
09:23So here we have these two.
09:25Each guy sort of expecting the uppercut.
09:27Each guy trying to figure out what to do to counter or neutralize it.
09:30There's an intensity and a tension about this fight that the crowd is really latching on to already.
09:46You can hear the screams when these exchanges start.
09:49Yes.
09:55Nakatani looking for that counter left hand over the top again.
09:58And Nishida gets there with one of his own right down the middle.
10:02And another one.
10:07Yeah, and now we're not in the ring obviously, but Nakatani is acting and reacting like a guy
10:14who understands that Nishida's punching power is a lot more effective than his record suggests.
10:23Nakatani just exploding forward with that leaping right hook.
10:26Took a couple of shots prior to that though.
10:37Counter to the body there from Nakatani.
10:40It's a hard shot to land on Nishida with that super tight guard.
10:44Those elbows go all the way down to the waistband.
10:46Left hand came raining over the top there from Nakatani.
10:55And oh, Nishida.
10:56Big left hand of the body.
10:57Yeah, he felt that body shot.
10:58You could see Nishida wincing.
11:01And now Nakatani climbing the ladder with a couple shots up top before going back downstairs.
11:08Nishida with a reply right away.
11:10And that left hand of the body was the sort of shot Nakatani's been looking for.
11:17Maybe not that specific shot, but the shot that's going to make Nishida think twice about what he's doing.
11:26Turns out.
11:26Right.
11:45Now.
11:45Correct.
11:46Right.
11:47Right.
11:49Right.
11:52Right.
11:54Right.
11:55Right.
11:55Right.
11:55Right.
11:56a very interested observer there in a now you in a way
12:13it's nakatani first off the stools
12:19as round four begins of what has been a fantastic title fight so far right and the other subplot
12:25that's that's developing as we begin the fourth round is which of these fighters deviates from
12:31this furious early pace either by choice or by necessity
12:37but it's hard to imagine people two guys fighting this fast uh punching this with this frequency
12:44and this much power for 12 rounds without somebody deciding they need a break or so
12:48or without somebody breaking i mean we thought that the last time there was a japanese unification
12:53fight between kenshiro and saigo yuri akui it did not slow down and thus far this one hasn't either
13:00well what happened there was akui went from a went from a furious pace to a even more furious pace
13:08and then taraji matched it so there was a deviation from the pace it's not the one we expected
13:15good inside work here from nashida as he lands a nice chopping right hook up top
13:19a big left hand over the top there too
13:36it is the kind of forehead to forehead shoulder to shoulder fight we weren't sure we were going to see
13:40you're never certain how two southpaws will match stylistically the answer tonight
13:48is beautifully and violently and speaking of which there is a hematoma developing
13:55above the eye of ryosuke nashida that we're going to
14:00be wary of as we move forward here
14:02you hear the chance yeah they're on nashida's side they are on nashida's side at the moment
14:12they must not have gotten the memo about big left hand there from nakatani that one forces nashida
14:19to take a brief step backwards yeah and that's for the second time tonight koi
14:24it's been a big left hand that has caused nashida to think twice about what he's doing
14:32nashida has had a lot of success himself offensively but he's the only one who has shown
14:38effects yes of feeling the power so far yeah there's a damage that's starting to accrue
14:45he also appears between the two of them to be breathing a little bit more heavily
14:50this is the question that we posed how heavy attacks can nashida afford in these types of exchanges
15:02and look at the eye of ryosuke nashida that is a big problem and that left hand right on top of
15:16it yes it's not helping matters
15:35okay
15:44you
16:14Round five under way as you see the swelling increasing on the eye of Ryosuke Nishida as Junto Nakatani comes right back to the inside with a chopping left hand.
16:31Good shot there from Nishida but back comes Nakatani with a quick combination.
16:45And there's Nishida again starting that sequence that left uppercut to the body again opens up some more of his offense.
16:58Two uppercuts there from Nakatani. This is just an all out slugfest.
17:08Beautiful counter left there from Nakatani.
17:11Nakatani creating a little more distance now.
17:17You see Nishida advancing at a full run when Nakatani tries to create distance.
17:27The distance clearly is not what Nishida wants.
17:31At least not in this phase of the fight.
17:37Looks like Nishida being warned for the use of the head. A little bit over eager perhaps.
17:45Right.
17:46And running towards the inside. Big swing and a miss there from Nakatani.
17:50And clearly Nishida came into this fight thinking that the left hand to the body was what was going to make his offense work.
18:06He's seen him throw it straight as well.
18:12Nakatani tries to turn the corner with a right hook but he got caught with a better one there from Nishida.
18:16Yes.
18:17Good left hands and now just unloading with uppercuts is Junto Nakatani.
18:30I think Nishida blocking some of those but that eye is nearly closed Morgan.
18:42And again that difference in punching power.
18:45Nishida can try to will these punches away but they're taking an effect.
18:50And we may be taking a look at that eye right? I mean that's going to look like a Carmen Basilio eye.
19:02Yes.
19:03In about five minutes.
19:08But he will pass the diagnostic test.
19:15And we are back to action.
19:20Another left hand right on that eye.
19:23Yeah and Nakatani is not shy about throwing that roundhouse left because it's going to come to Nishida from out of that blind spot.
19:33Just continuing to punish the injury of Riosuke Nishida.
19:38Another one.
19:39A devilish left hand from Nakatani as he strikes a pose at the end of the round.
19:45عائnous.
19:47A devilish left hand很 short.
19:52A stallion.
19:53Orazak
20:07So a couple interesting things in the corner there, Morgan.
20:35And in the Nakatani corner, number one, they believe that the ruling was that the eye closure for Nishita is as a result of a headbutt.
20:44That's number one.
20:46But number two, they're telling Nakatani, stop running.
20:49I don't know what their standards are for activity per round.
20:54But apparently it wasn't enough for Rudy Hernandez's liking.
20:58I wouldn't call it running.
21:00As I said, I've seen one guy running that's Nishita.
21:02He's running forward.
21:03But Nakatani has not retreated except when he got hit in the belly with that uppercut.
21:09But look at him now.
21:10He's coming forward.
21:13Nishita takes a knee there.
21:15That obviously an entanglement.
21:17But the body language of Nishita looking a little more haggard here in the sixth round, and understandably so.
21:24The other thing you saw in between rounds, the smile on the face of Nakatani, the difference in body language here.
21:36There's a really frightening level of joy that Nakatani seems to be taking in what's happening right now.
21:42From this combat, exactly.
21:44And look at Nishita right now.
21:46To your point, Corey.
21:48Looking haggard.
21:49Not quite exhausted.
21:50But looking like somebody who understands that he might be running out of answers.
21:57The trade hooks on the inside.
22:03Nakatani just cranking them up.
22:05And he cranks the head of Nishita another direction there with that one.
22:09Nishita still standing in the trenches with one eye trying to trade with one of the most dangerous punchers in the game.
22:17Also, at what point do we credit Nishita's chin?
22:20Because a couple of these right hooks by all rights should have put him down if not out.
22:25And here he is.
22:27Maybe not winning the fight, but still returning fire.
22:32Some of that joy we talked about on the face of Junto Nakatani is probably a little bit of surprise.
22:37Like, hey, someone's willing to stand to do this with me?
22:41Well, as I said in my notes about Nishita, can he take the initiative from Nakatani?
22:47Can he take Nakatani's next punch?
22:49Best punch.
22:50Can he avoid that punch?
22:52And can he do it for 12 rounds?
22:53He's been taking it for five and a half going on six.
23:05Beautiful right hook there from Nakatani as he dances out.
23:10This corner's not going to like that dancing corner.
23:17See, even in moments like that there, Morgan, Nakatani just establishing that physical dominance,
23:29kind of twirling Nishita around a little bit.
23:33His eye is completely closed.
23:35Yes.
23:35Another round in the bank.
23:43Another smile from Nakatani.
23:44goes into the next panel with her toy outfit.
23:49Sorry.
23:50Oh, my God.
23:52He's going to be looking at the information.
23:54He's going to be on a giant ride.
23:55You're going to be perfect.
23:57It's not going to be verified, but it's like an image of a butterfly.
23:59If he has tree needs what does, that's a Gremmen and a female creature.
24:03You're going to make an image of a 원 mäthed ankle.
24:05There's like a would-up biliated.
24:07After that, rolling given the point of the shark at 20 o'clockみたい,
24:08he was going to be perfect for you to come out.
24:10But I was going to be perfect.
24:11So we're going to be perfect for you to come out real money.
24:12So, step you up close.
24:19Punch, punch, step.
24:21Punch, punch, step.
24:22No need to use the strength.
24:24No need to punch.
24:25Okay?
24:26Let's go to the ribs.
24:27To the arms.
24:28To the arms.
24:29Okay, I'll come.
24:30Huh?
24:31Come down.
24:32Okay, come down.
24:33Okay.
24:34Come down.
24:35Come down.
24:36Come down.
24:37Come down.
24:38Come down.
24:39Come down.
24:40Come down.
24:41This is going to be waved off.
24:44And justifiably so.
24:47The one-eyed Ryosuke Nishida.
24:51As brave as they come.
24:53But that would have been irresponsible.
24:57Yes.
24:58To continue taking that punishment.
25:00Junto Nakatani.
25:02Now the unified Bantamweight champion.
25:06The big bang has happened.
25:10And, Corey, we were getting our answer in terms of which fighter would be the first to wilt under that very aggressive early pace.
25:20And it appeared to be Nishida.
25:22But to your point, you cannot look at his eye.
25:24You can't see out of that right eye at all.
25:26And it's irresponsible to send him back out into the ring against a puncher as precise and powerful as Junto Nakatani is with one eye.
25:38As you look at the grotesque swelling on the face, on the eye of Ryosuke Nishida.
25:53The disappointment there with it.
26:09A credit to Nishida.
26:11Again, went into the places with Nakatani that no one dared to go before.
26:17Right to make this one official.
26:19The suggestion of the coroner.
26:21A referee in charge stops the contest due to an injury to the fighter.
26:27At the end of round number six.
26:29He is the winner by Wales.
26:31He is now the unbefeated, unified, WCMI, the Akadamuian champion of the world.
26:41Junto Big Bang Nakatani!
26:48So, yet another destructive performance from Junto Nakatani here tonight.
27:01It wasn't without resistance, Morgan.
27:04But you see the face of Ryosuke Nishida.
27:07Those are the hazards with waging that kind of fight against this kind of fight.
