00:00Here we go, 2.50 Moto 2, it's on!
00:07Deegan rocked south, but he's still on the outside. Can he seal it?
00:11No, he can't! It's Chance Hyman again!
00:14What a start by Chance Hyman, and he leaned on Hayden.
00:18It shows me a little bit of confidence that this kid can do a little turn down for what?
00:21To get some. Just like the first Moto, it looks like Tom Bial.
00:25Oh, Bial looking to pass Deegan here for the number two spot, and he does.
00:30It's the top three of the first Moto exactly in that order.
00:33Chance Hyman, Tom Bial, Hayden Deegan, so great start by them, these guys.
00:39Oh, and Masterpool was fourth. He made a mistake, lost a few spots.
00:42Shimoda, a good start. He's up to fourth now. Oh, and Bial off the track.
00:47Man, the opening parts of the race is, man, it's killing Tom.
00:50Yeah, I mean, nice recovery for the first Moto, but that's going to be costly.
00:55Anytime you get past by the number one, it's going to be tough to get back around.
00:59You can see Joe Shimoda getting around the outside.
01:03Hey, the rider to watch, that is Lux Turner with the purple pass there on the AEO KTM.
01:08Oh, is that Harrop, who is so good in the first Moto of the Triumph?
01:12He is off the track completely, though.
01:13Looks like Joe is able to get around Lux right there, back down, see if he can do something with Tom Bial,
01:21because it's clearly, these guys are, once you lose that toe, it's hard to make that time back up,
01:26and Joe had a terrible first Moto, considering how he's been all year long,
01:29so he's going to want to catch that toe and get back up with Hayden, not lose too many points.
01:34Lux Turner, they're running well, gets the chance to mention, stay with us after this Moto on Peacock.
01:39It's part of our estimates inside our post-race show.
01:42We'll be covering the women's race today, where Lux's sister, Lala, is the defending champion
01:47and this year's point leader.
01:48That will be a special feature on our show to give it the coverage of their race.
01:52Lux holding tough against the factory bikes.
01:56Now it is Casey Cochran on the number 40, making the move on Turner,
02:00and here are the leaders, Hymas and Deegan.
02:02Wow, man, chance to rail that corner right there.
02:04They fixed some of these parts leading the track, and it's only going to get deeper and deeper,
02:08so these guys are probably super excited, a little bit flattered than it has been.
02:13Chance is confidence right now.
02:17And with Cochran moving up, we'll track his progress.
02:21Last week, Cochran on that Rockstar Gascast, number 40, did it from the front.
02:25Now he's making passes and moving forward.
02:28Yeah, every week, you know, Casey gets up front.
02:30He's just going to get more and more confidence to where the top five and that top ten
02:34is going to be the norm of him instead of just having these one-off races.
02:38So it's been very consistent the last few races.
02:41Moda, as we've seen, and we've mentioned his name, so that's good to see the young talent, Casey, up here.
02:47He's challenging Shimoda, James.
02:50Yeah, Joe's going to have to pick up the pace.
02:52Can't have no average Joe rides today.
02:53He's going to get it.
02:54He's got to get it going.
02:55Otherwise, Casey's coming up around him as well.
02:58And Shimoda on that red Honda start of the year with four second-place finishes.
03:03Moda, what a bad start, was just able to get it into the top ten.
03:08Better now with the fourth.
03:11Fial up ahead.
03:12But this thing might be breaking down to Hymas versus Deegan.
03:16Yeah, what we notice in all the Modos is that they gap, even in the top five.
03:21And once these guys lose that toe, I mean, we're talking not 10, 15 seconds.
03:25We're talking 30, 40 seconds that these guys are losing.
03:29So it just shows you how difficult this track is.
03:31Once you lose the toe with the guy in front of you, man, that gap, it spreads open really quickly.
03:40Shimoda looking to reset, fending off Cochran.
03:44Then it's Turner, Masterpool, Avery Long, a rookie, riding well in eighth.
03:49Kitchen and Caden Muneer, the Australian making his pro debut, is in tenth.
03:56Another ride around a Monster Yamaha star racing team.
03:59Here's Masterpool looking to rebuild.
04:01One quick mistake on lap one.
04:03Dropped him from fourth to seventh.
04:05Yeah, tough opening lap.
04:07And you can see Chance Hyman is going the other way.
04:09So it just shows you how quickly, you know, things can change.
04:12We see his teammate Levi Kitchen going to pop in our screen right here.
04:16Got Kitchin on the 47.
04:20Avery Long behind him.
04:22Good job by Avery.
04:23Ben, I feel like we're seeing Kawasaki riders in unison quite a bit this year.
04:28And it's happening again.
04:29Kitchen and Masterpool.
04:30Yeah, it's good to see the most of the pro second team, all of them healthy.
04:34So once they're out here, they're all pretty close in pace.
04:39So when they hook up on the racetrack, we're going to see a barrage of green bikes and green clothing.
04:45And they're still fighting.
04:46No, wait a minute.
04:47Avery Long.
04:49He's going to make the move on Kitchin.
04:52Well done to the rookie.
04:53Yeah, nice move.
04:54Levi was pulling a tear off and he pulled in clean vision.
04:56He saw Avery getting around him.
05:00Hey, shout out there to AEO KTM's shop in Southern California dealership.
05:06They have Lux Turner and Avery Long in the top ten.
05:10Well done.
05:11They get a little support from KTM, not a full factory team.
05:14They do get some help and they're making it look great right now.
05:16Yeah, behind him, they got Juju, Juju Bermere behind him, a factory KTM rider.
05:24So these suggestions, they're not taking them.
05:28No, these track markers, they are all over those things at the top of the hill.
05:34Ares Long, who was a Yamaha rider, as an amateur, but when he finished, his amateur career did not have a slot.
05:40Got on with his AEO KTM team, had a huge crash.
05:43I believe it was the San Diego Supercross, was out for a long time.
05:47Great to see Avery back and running toward the front right now at 7.
05:52This track is so difficult for these guys right now.
05:55These runs, they seem like they never end.
05:58And once you get in it, you have to stay there.
06:00So if you make a mistake, you're going to get passed by the other guys.
06:03We can see Avery Long going for it again.
06:06And he ain't going for it, he went for it.
06:08And he went around time master pool.
06:10Wow.
06:10Now he's going after Cochran.
06:14He wants the top five.
06:15Where did this come from?
06:19Confidence.
06:21I love this.
06:22You make a couple passes.
06:23Make a couple passes, man.
06:25All the world, you'd be like, all right, I can get around these guys.
06:27I mean, it goes without saying anything.
06:30You make some moves and you feel like you can just make the world.
06:34And how deep this 250 clash, normally there's another guy in front of you and another guy in front of you.
06:38So if you keep that momentum going, you can pass three or four guys.
06:41And that's what Avery's showing us.
06:42Long, lanky kid out of Minnesota.
06:46And his goal last year is an amateur.
06:51He was battling Drew Adams at the Monster Energy Amateur National at Loretta Lenz.
06:56He's coming back from ACL surgery.
06:58Then the injury in Supercross.
07:00Now he's showing the talent as the Kawasaki riders are battling behind him.
07:03Oh, Beaumair in the box here.
07:05He was moving up, and now he's had problems.
07:08Yeah, it looks like he was going down because he was trying to adjust his, you know, his clutch lever at that point.
07:13But back for Avery Long, you would think him being a little bit taller, us being at altitude, that he would be at a disadvantage.
07:19But, oh, there's Beaumair.
07:21Oh, yeah, he was adjusting that.
07:23That's a tough position to be in, and you've got to come help him out.
07:27Lucky he was not on the exhaust pipe side there while he was under the bike.
07:32And now back underway is Beaumair.
07:34It's been very good at the start of the season.
07:38Oh, that's what the 250 class is all about.
07:39You never know.
07:40You never know who's going to come to life.
07:43And it's Avery Long right now.
07:44Yeah, it's Forrest Gump.
07:46You never know, like a box of chocolates in this class.
07:49Avery Long is getting around Tom Masterpool, Levi Kitchen, and making his way out to Casey Cochran.
07:55And so he looks good doing it.
07:58Okay.
07:59I'm going to tell you Avery Long's moto results so far this year.
08:01Ready?
08:0221, 29, 2019.
08:05And he was 20th earlier today.
08:08And now he's in sixth.
08:09And when you just go back a week ago, Lance Cobush.
08:12Yeah.
08:12Leading laps, throwing peace signs out there.
08:15So it just shows you what a star can do for these guys.
08:18And, again, they're all so close and talented.
08:21It really just comes down to belief in separation.
08:24And this is what we needed to see for these guys.
08:26Meanwhile, no change up front.
08:30Chance Himes holding Hayden Deegan at bay.
08:32Three-second gap.
08:34So you watch these Kawasaki riders battling.
08:37It's Masterpool Kitchen.
08:41Seventh and eighth right now.
08:43We'll use that for our Rocky Mountain team update here.
08:46Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki.
08:48The most wins of any team in this 250 class.
08:50305 wins squad started back in 1991.
08:55They were actually a Honda team back then.
08:56Mitch Payton in the Pro Circuit unit moved to Kawasaki in 1993.
09:01And you see all the championships they have won.
09:04But it's been a while.
09:062019 with Adam Steve Skrilo, the last time they won this one.
09:09And they're riding well in this moto.
09:12But as good as it is, it's still just seventh and eighth.
09:14Masterpool Kitchen.
09:17And Garrett Marchbanks, who is third.
09:19Their other teammate, the first moto, is 18th right now.
09:23Yeah, you got Drew Adams in 11.
09:26So, you know, one thing that makes this track really difficult
09:28is that when you get past, you lose a little bit of that time.
09:33And it's so easy to make a mistake.
09:36And for these guys like Avery, once you get around these guys,
09:39for them to come back and pass you, it's taking a lot of chances.
09:42And I think that's why you see guys, as we're going to watch Tom Masterpool,
09:45get on the outside and get down towards the end.
09:47But it's almost like it's easy to stay where you are as long as you beat the guys.
09:52We're watching Jet Lauren beat the guy to the next corner.
09:55These guys are going to have to try really hard.
09:57And it's easy to make a lot of mistakes.
09:58So, for guys like Avery Long, he can finish up here.
10:02He can continue going.
10:03As I say that.
10:03Come on, Avery, I'm hooking you up.
10:06I'm saying it's easy.
10:07And he let Levi open the kitchen up on you.
10:09So, still a good ride by him.
10:12And Masterpool got by as well.
10:14Yes.
10:14So, that'll push Long back to, I think, 8th now.
10:18And Masterpool and Kitchen continue their battle.
10:21Yeah.
10:21So, my whole point was just how difficult this racetrack is.
10:24We've seen a lot of mistakes for a lot of these guys.
10:26Just because how deep these ruts are to make a pass on this racetrack is easy to make a lot of mistakes.
10:32Which means if you don't get it done, you lose that much time.
10:36So, having a three-second lead here makes it really difficult for the guy to really try to make up a lot of time by going a lot faster.
10:42Because as clearly as they can catch you, but trying to get around here is a whole different story with these long ruts.
10:47And you've just seen mistakes after mistakes all day long.
10:49And I think that's why these guys are so separated between the leaders and these guys.
10:54Well, that's the story up front, too, because Hymas continues with the three-second gap over Deegan.
11:00But, I tell you, I feel like they've been out here for a while.
11:03It's only 11 minutes into a 30-minute moto.
11:06Lots of time for Deegan to try to lock it down.
11:08And he has taken it to two and a half seconds.
11:11While the Pro Circuit boys keep battling.
11:15Let's see if Levi...
11:18You know, you can see Ty kind of sitting up a little bit.
11:20He's not going to try to fight him too much until he realizes as his teammate.
11:23Then you're going to have to fight him.
11:25But definitely not moving forward like he was at first moto for a little while.
11:31Wheel to wheel over the finish.
11:33Kinchin gets it done.
11:36Ty comes back.
11:39Throw a tear off that up.
11:41That looks like road racing there.
11:43Hitting the front stretch.
11:45Side by side.
11:46So Kinchin is now sixth.
11:51Shout out again to Casey Cochran, who has left them behind, at least for the moment.
11:55About three seconds up the track.
11:59Cochran, let's see if he can finish it this time, though.
12:01He was very quick early in the motos last week.
12:04Can he get it at the end?
12:05It actually ended up being a season-best 11th, as you see Cochran last week in a moto at
12:10Hangtown.
12:12This right now, that'd be a huge improvement.
12:14No, that'd be a huge improvement.
12:15And again, I think the consistency of what we're watching with Casey, every week we're
12:19talking about him because he's up front.
12:21He's closer up front.
12:22So no matter if top five, you know, he continues to do this.
12:26Then those top fives are going to...
12:27No!
12:28It's Avery Long!
12:29Looks like some bike issues, so that's what it was.
12:33It wasn't Avery.
12:34He was having some bike problems.
12:35So I can't say too much.
12:37Just elevation and how hard these guys are pushing it is easy to happen.
12:42We just saw the same thing happen in Hayden Deacon about an hour and a half ago.
12:45That's true.
12:47Well, much like we said about Cochran last week, he didn't get the result, but he showed
12:52speed.
12:53That really applies for Avery Long, as well.
12:55I was there.
12:56I was top five until the bike let me down.
12:58That's all you're going to say.
13:00Battle still raging here between Shimoda and Vial.
13:03Shimoda now third.
13:05Vial back to fourth.
13:07And it leads to this question.
13:10Does Deacon have something up his sleeve for the second half of the race to go after
13:15Hymas?
13:15Send it to Will.
13:17Thank you, Jason.
13:18I'm curious what we were going to see him change in this moto after we saw the mechanical
13:23issues there in the first one.
13:24We're just talking to this mechanic, Greg Dunphy.
13:26Yeah, I said, have you told him to sort of look after the bike as such as moto?
13:30He's like, no.
13:31He's like, mechanically, what he called it is we've taken a precaution mechanically.
13:35His instructions were, go out and do you.
13:38Go out and ride how you normally do.
13:40Don't worry about the bike.
13:41It's going to make it.
13:42And he just told me, wait for about 10 laps to go.
13:45We're going to see him stop the push.
13:46Well, thank you.
13:47He might need to worry about those track markers.
13:49He was right on the inside of that one on the top of the hill.
13:51Just watching Hayden Deegan here.
13:54He kind of feels stuck in second place.
13:56The track position has been so important, regardless if it's 250 class or 450 class.
14:01And I want to circle back to that update we had right before the start of the moto about
14:05those gate positions.
14:06And would that outside positioning work?
14:09Well, right now, there are two, four, and five.
14:12So I would say it was the right move.
14:14A little unorthodox, but it certainly paid off.
14:16Yeah, we might be able to point that out, James, as they hook back on to the start.
14:20The next lap around, why those outside gates actually work.
14:23So they're drag racing up the hill.
14:26They hook back on.
14:27Deegan had taken it down to 2.5, 2.7.
14:30Now it's 3.2.
14:32Yeah, and that's what I was mentioning earlier when we were showing Todd Massacre and Levi Kitchen.
14:36You know, Hayden's able to close in on chance.
14:39And you're going to see these lap times, you know, fluctuate.
14:42But he's got to make up that time.
14:44But to make it that time, you've got to go faster.
14:46And it's just so easy to make a mistake.
14:48And once you do that, you just lose so much time.
14:50So this little gap that Chance Hyman has, it might as well be five or, you know, eight seconds
14:56in a normal race because of the chance that Hayden has to take to catch him.
15:00We've been watching that all day long in the 450 class, time after time.
15:04Guys will make that time, and then they'll get there, and they'll make a mistake.
15:08And it's just so easy to happen how difficult this racetrack is.
15:10I mean, look at all these rugs.
15:12There's quite a few, and the track's only going to get rougher in the second half of the moto.
15:18I'll remind you that Monster Energy is available now at Maverick.
15:23Vial has reason to keep charging after Shimoda.
15:27They're actually tied in points of the day.
15:29Shimoda's going to...
15:32Uh, actually, sorry, no, Vial is one point ahead of Shimoda for third overall.
15:37And Shimoda wants to keep that streak going of podiums to start the year.
15:45So right now, Shimoda's going to need to have something happen.
15:48He needs someone to catch Vial, or he needs to catch Deegan.
15:51But Deegan and Hymas have built up a huge gap.
15:54They have been the class of the field today.
15:56Yeah, we've been watching these gaps.
15:59As I said earlier, you get the leaders in the top, the guys who are battling for up front,
16:04and then 30 seconds, you know, 40 seconds to the other guys,
16:07and it's just really hard to keep that flow going if you're not chasing a rabbit in front of you.
16:12It's coming undone now for Masterpool.
16:14It was a little sick coming into the race.
16:16It was better than he felt last week, but not good enough now to hold off Max Follin on that Clemamax.
16:21Muck off Yamaha, the 92, has taken over seven.
16:25Good to see Max.
16:26We haven't talked about him in a couple weeks,
16:28so good to see him out here with the big change and, you know, using a handbrake out here.
16:35I know that's been a difficult thing to get used to,
16:37but Max has done a phenomenal job to learn how to ride,
16:40basically reride a motorcycle,
16:42and, you know, use that handbrake instead of a normal, traditional footbrake.
16:46and, again, really cool to watch these guys come out here and battle
16:49and good to see Max up front.
16:51Yeah, riding well, putting Masterpool behind him.
16:53Moseman is knight, and Minear, again, in his pro debut, is running in 10th.
17:04You can hear these guys laboring in these corners.
17:09Yeah, really excited to see that.
17:11Caden Minear graduated his first pro race
17:15from the next program last week,
17:18and he was racing that and won both motos,
17:20and now he's out here racing these guys,
17:22and I do believe if he can continue,
17:24we're going to see that kid up in the top five.
17:26That kid has some talent.
17:27This track might not show how good he's actually riding
17:30because how difficult this racetrack is
17:31and how time is, in essence, in track positions, in essence.
17:35And, um, but top ten so far?
17:39Yeah, well done.
17:40Another Australian, by the way, Minear, in 10th.
17:43You've got a check-in with Chance Hymas,
17:45who is now pulling away from Deegan.
17:47It's now 4.2 seconds.
17:48It's an impressive ride for the 10,
17:52but still 12 minutes and two laps to go.
17:55The check-in with the Fly Racing Riders,
17:58and that includes Hymas with the Fly Racing gear.
18:01The company's based in Idaho.
18:03They have backed the Idaho-based Hymas for a long time.
18:06Cochran is fifth, also wearing Fly.
18:08Schwartz, 12th.
18:10DeFrancisco, 13th.
18:11Parker Ross is 34th.
18:14Can Chance get this done?
18:21This is Moseman and Master pulled out for a ninth.
18:25Moseman around the outside, James.
18:26Yeah, you know, Michael's seen him pass a lot of guys.
18:29He's just been having a hard time finishing it
18:31with some crashes here and there.
18:33So, Michael's been doing what he's been doing all year long,
18:35and Ty, as you just mentioned earlier,
18:37he's definitely starting to feel it from the sickness
18:40or whatever's going on,
18:42but definitely going along the wrong path.
18:44direction, and once you start doing it here,
18:47man, it's tough when that altitude really catches up to you.
18:50Now he's got his teammate.
18:53I think Vinier coming through next.
18:55It's a lap rider there.
18:56That's March Banks.
18:57Oh, no, that is March Banks.
18:58Where did he come from?
18:59We had about 14th.
19:01This guy does not give up.
19:02We'll see in a second here.
19:06Lost a number plate.
19:09Did March Banks.
19:10There's Moseman up ahead.
19:16And he's charging after Bolin.
19:19His 250 class is just relentless.
19:20No matter how far back you go, there's another battle.
19:23It is, and they're all wearing,
19:25on the same team, they're all wearing the same gear.
19:28So, excuse me, sometimes I'm like pausing,
19:30trying to figure out which number these guys are.
19:32But they kind of rock the same.
19:35They look the same.
19:36And I think March Banks might be a lap down.
19:39We have him in 30-50.
19:41He was hovering around, getting close to the top 10.
19:44But he must have gone down.
19:45You saw the number plate dangling.
19:46He's still going.
19:48But he's way back now.
19:49Man, what a tough break for March Banks,
19:51who was third in the first moto.
19:54Moseman attacking these fronts here on the 93.
19:56Yeah, I've been actually really impressed with Michael.
20:01So far, it's out there this season.
20:02I mean, I know the results haven't been what he wanted.
20:05But he's been riding really good.
20:06He just, I mean, if he finished his thing off,
20:09he had a couple top five.
20:10So, if you keep this thing up, that'd be nice.
20:13Deacon's down.
20:15Deacon has crashed.
20:16Back up.
20:17And I was just looking at the lap times.
20:19He actually closed it down within two seconds.
20:21And as soon as we've been talking about all day long,
20:24once those guys get there, just him pushing it,
20:26he can close the gap.
20:27But passing somebody is a whole different.
20:29And that mistake caught him out.
20:30We've seen a few of them so far today
20:32where he's been near misses.
20:34That one seems like he caught him out.
20:35Well, Eli Tomac really articulated that on the podium.
20:38He admitted that he rushed to corner
20:39because he knew his best passing opportunity
20:42was on the horizon.
20:43Yeah, but you know what, Hayden, that's my fault.
20:45I wasn't able to get you to keep some race before this.
20:48And my keep patient.
20:50So, you know, you can't, I'm not going to blame you.
20:53Oh, there they are.
20:54Well done.
20:55Yeah, there we go.
20:56So, it was track conditions.
20:57And you have to have a plan and be patient.
20:59We heard Eli said he rushed it in.
21:02And it's hard.
21:03It's hard to do.
21:04It's really easy to do in the sense of, you know,
21:06once you get all excited, catch him in.
21:08And we saw what happened with Eli Tomac in that 450 class.
21:11Any chance you get close to Jet Larch, you're going to take it.
21:13And I believe Hayden Deacon.
21:13Yep, he closed that gap.
21:17Starts losing their front end.
21:18Now, there's two runs right there.
21:19And it looks like he was trying to get to the inside,
21:21but the back tire was over it.
21:22And we've seen Hayden do that a few times a day,
21:26where he's losing the front end, goes off the racetrack.
21:28And that might have cost him his first overall victory of the day.
21:32But all that being said, it's all caused because of what we're watching,
21:36what Chance Hymus is doing out front.
21:42So, Deacon now 8.3 seconds back.
21:45Is that it?
21:47And under normal circumstances, I'd say, yeah, it's over.
21:50But you just never know with how relentless this guy is.
21:54And he looks like he's still pushing the pace.
21:57Yeah, that was beautiful, that little hop over.
21:59So, yeah, it's maybe not over.
22:01Their chance goes in every conservative mode.
22:03We see how quickly things can change at this racetrack.
22:05A couple other battles here.
22:07You've got Jordan Smith on the triumph of the 19, Ryder DeFrancisco.
22:11And there's Caden Muneer, pro debut today after, as you mentioned,
22:15going 1-1 last week in SMX Next.
22:17So, that is the end of his amateur career with those SMX Next combine races.
22:23He told me yesterday he still might race Loretta Lynn's amateur national
22:27by Monster Energy in August.
22:29But I have a feeling if he keeps riding like this, that might not happen.
22:34Yeah, people, keep an eye on this kid.
22:36Remember this name.
22:37This kid is good.
22:39This kid's going to be really good.
22:40And like I said, the track, how difficult this racetrack is.
22:43I mean, right now he's in 11th place, but he's riding good.
22:47Especially on this track, he might want to go back to the next program.
22:51He'd be like, man, if this is what I've got to deal with every single weekend,
22:53I don't want it, but luckily for him, he has an opportunity.
22:56Just like last week in a hang town, our next program gives these riders an opportunity
23:01on a supercross track and a motocross track.
23:03So, it might be his first race, but he's kind of familiar to these settings,
23:07and that's what's so cool about that whole program.
23:09And it's showing out.
23:10Right now, a couple years ago, Hayden Deegan was in the same program.
23:13That's right.
23:13And now look where he's at.
23:15Yep.
23:15Hymas as well.
23:16Here's something interesting.
23:18It's the next generation of Australians, so the Lawrences are quite young, you would think.
23:22But I asked Cade Minear, did you really see them when you were growing up?
23:25But he said their last race in Australia is 2015.
23:28He was seven years old.
23:30So, we have a whole other wave.
23:33They were long gone.
23:34They went to Europe.
23:34They came to the United States.
23:36And he and Cole Davies, his teammate, who's out injured right now from New Zealand,
23:40they grew up racing against each other.
23:41So, a whole other group coming to the United States and making names for themselves now.
23:47Yep.
23:48And they happen to be on that star racing Yamaha.
23:50They got a factory of babies out there, full talent.
23:53Yeah, shout out to Cole Davies.
23:54He was going to be one of these guys that I thought was going to give Hayden Deegan some fits in this,
23:59but injury at our last Supercross.
24:01But he's going to be up here just like his teammate.
24:04Anytime you can make Jett Lawrence seem like he's old, these kids are young.
24:08So, I have to tell you right there.
24:11Look at this.
24:11Dylan Schwartz, aggressive around, master pull on the Toyota of Redlands, Bar X Yamaha.
24:19You know, I know the 450 is the top notch of the class, but, man, I can tell you one thing.
24:23When you start going backwards in the 250 class, it's relentless.
24:27These guys continue, and you can turn a top 10 to outside, not even scoring points,
24:33because there's always somebody coming.
24:35Somebody's always coming, and you see Dylan Schwartz just making his way up.
24:39That's what this guy does.
24:40JT and I, we're talking about it this week.
24:43He definitely doesn't get tired.
24:45You never see Schwartz up there early in the moto.
24:47He got as high as sixth in moto one, but he is something special down the stretch.
24:52You don't always realize.
24:53You look at the end of the day, the results, and you're like, oh, another solid ride for Dylan Schwartz.
24:57It's happening again.
24:58He's in ninth.
24:59Yeah, well, we're going to highlight it.
25:00I mean, I'm starting at, what, 12th on the first lap, and then I saw a highlight.
25:04He was in 20th at some point, so he went down.
25:07But Dylan making his way back up into ninth place right now.
25:12Right, right, Alpine, California.
25:14Oh, this is going to be interesting.
25:15Kitchen has caught Vial.
25:19That might push Vial off the overall podium.
25:24He has that one-point bulge over Shimoda.
25:28Kitchen has come a long way to get to him, and he might have the pass here, James.
25:33He does.
25:34No, he has the pass.
25:35Tom's starting to sit up as well.
25:37I mean, it's frustrating so far in the motocross year for Tom Vial.
25:41And I thought it started off pretty solid.
25:43I mean, at Paulie, he was up there, and then just things, crashes.
25:47He's another title contender, and when things aren't going right, it's just hard to stay motivated.
25:51You can see that with Tom.
25:52He's starting to labor.
25:54And the kitchen's over for business.
25:56He's moving his way on as quickly as he was there.
25:58He's gone now.
26:00Wow.
26:01So that's going to push Shimoda to third overall because it costs Vial.
26:09One more position.
26:11Bottom box tracking the leader.
26:13Time running out for Deegan to try to mount a last-ditch effort.
26:17I don't even know if he's going to try here.
26:19Might just say the points are good enough today.
26:21It's tough to stay with a hard charger like Deegan, but Chance Hymus answering a lot of questions today.
26:28Yeah, well, Chance is in a tough position because he's, at this point, he knows he's got about five laps left.
26:33He's almost trying to just milk this thing in.
26:36When you got Hayden Deegan probably upset after that first moto, and as I mentioned in that first moto,
26:41the last guy on this track out of anyone that Hayden Deegan wants to have confidence is that it's this kid right here.
26:47So he might put a charge in the last lap.
26:50Hayden Deegan was a second and a half, almost two seconds faster than Chance Hymus.
26:55And he just ran a 2.15.
26:57Hayden Deegan, that is another two seconds faster.
27:00So that gap is coming down.
27:03Uh-oh.
27:04And we'll do a little math here.
27:05Three minutes and two laps left.
27:07What do you think, four laps to go, something like that, three?
27:12Yeah, no, I mean, it's possible.
27:14Yep.
27:15It's possible we're seeing Joe Shimoda quiet third place out here.
27:19His teammates 42 seconds ahead of him and up front.
27:23But to answer your question, yeah, Jason, it could happen.
27:28Okay.
27:29Kitchen, hey, wait.
27:31If he passes Shimoda, it'll actually put Fihal back on the overall podium.
27:39But also Kitchen himself would be knocking on the door for that podium.
27:43Levi has really come to life here in the last ten minutes.
27:46Yeah, that might change the points out for Levi.
27:48End up on anything.
27:50Joe's probably like, I thought we were friends.
27:51Levi, I thought we were friends.
27:53Will.
27:55Joe Shimoda would obviously very much like to hang on to this third overall there and be on the podium.
28:01For the first three rounds of the season, it's an extremely strong start.
28:04And it may have surprised some, but talking to his mechanic, Ben Rimmis, it has not surprised them.
28:10And he said, Joe's really kind of tightened up on his inner circle this year.
28:13He said, let's look back at the beginning of Supercross.
28:15He won, Anaheim won.
28:17He got injured and broke his finger at the second round.
28:20So he said, really, he was set up to do this then, to start strong in the season.
28:24When I asked him kind of what they changed to achieve there, you see, this has just kind
28:28of been a case of just narrowing everything down for Joe, keeping it simple.
28:33We don't look at the whole season.
28:34We look at weekend to weekend.
28:36He said, even when it comes to messages on his pit boy, it's like I tell him about the
28:39guy in front of him or the situation in front of him.
28:42So it's just about sort of narrowing that viewpoint down to Joe.
28:45And we've seen him with a very strong start, 2-2, 2-2, through the first two rounds.
28:50And we'd obviously, like I said, let them hang on to this round, too.
28:53Well, thanks, Will.
28:54He's going to have to be tough if he wants that podium, though, because, yes,
28:59if Kitchen passes, Kitchen will be on the podium with an 8-3.
29:05That would be enough for third.
29:07That is wild.
29:08James, you're looking out the window there.
29:09You're seeing lap traffic in front of the leader.
29:12Yeah, I'm just looking at the lap times and the two leaders out here.
29:16We're going almost 10 seconds faster than anybody on this racetrack.
29:19And Chance just answered the bell by going 2-15.
29:22But Hayden Deegan went 2-14.
29:24So that gap is coming down.
29:26And what we saw with Joe Shimoda, sometimes when you don't have anybody to chase,
29:31it's hard to push forward.
29:33And I believe Joe didn't even know that Levi was that close.
29:36Because once he got there, you heard him rail that berm up on top.
29:39Now he's starting to get away from it.
29:40So Chance might fall in that same situation.
29:42And it's hard to pick up the pace when you start conserving
29:46and trying to ride this thing out with three laps left.
29:48Kitchen made a huge mistake in a left-hander
29:50and lost a lot of ground to Shimoda.
29:53So now he's got to go back to work if he wants that overall podium.
29:57And there are bonuses on the line.
29:59I'm going to say 250 class, general estimate,
30:0120-30 grand for a third-place finish.
30:04So that's what they're fighting over right now,
30:07Shimoda versus Kitchen.
30:08That would be third in the moto and third overall.
30:12And we go back, Jason, about two years ago.
30:14We saw Levi come out here, and I think he got 11th in the first moto.
30:18And then came out and dominated these guys in the second one,
30:21like 11-1 or something like that.
30:23Hey, Shimoda's bike is steaming, James.
30:25And suddenly, Kitchen is there.
30:27Man, it's the altitude.
30:29These boys are putting, not only are they hot,
30:32the bikes are running hot.
30:34Oh, the lap traffic not doing Kitchen any favors.
30:37Oh, I thought Joe almost had a pick-and-roll moment right there.
30:41He's using some basketball terminology right here.
30:44But Levi, he's on a roll right here.
30:47And Joe better close the door because Levi's going to kick it open.
30:52Kitchen on the inside.
30:53Oh, and now a lap rider goes down.
30:55They're able to avoid him.
30:56Kitchen on the inside.
30:57Can he get it done?
30:59Oh, Shimoda fought back.
31:01Yeah, it was a nice line by Levi.
31:02He took the suggestion line over there.
31:05Yeah, they're all flirt with those track markers, no doubt about it.
31:08Shimoda holding him off.
31:09No change in the gap up front.
31:11Still five seconds between Deegan and Hymas.
31:18Smoke him out, Joe.
31:19Smoke him out.
31:20That's literally smoking Joe right now.
31:22Smoking Joe out here, yeah.
31:23We have seen a scenario.
31:25I remember Cooper Webb was saying at round one, he had steam coming out of his bike.
31:29A lot of times riders at first don't even realize.
31:31No, you don't realize it.
31:33Unless there's like an antifreeze or something on the bike where you're starting to slip,
31:36he's not going to look down because, one, it's hard enough.
31:39Everything with all these ruts out here, you're looking forward.
31:42So you'll just see your mechanic.
31:43If he tells you something, then you might look or you get in these slow corners.
31:47But, yeah, Joe, he don't know he's smoking yet.
31:52But Kitchen does.
31:53So he wants to apply some of that heat and get back to third.
31:57Surely by now, Kitchen has received the message on the pit board that this is for the overall podium.
32:03And that'd be two in a row for him.
32:09Hymas stretched it back out.
32:145.9 with two to go.
32:17Yeah, very impressive.
32:18Looking at the lap times with Chance, being able to answer the bell with Hayden Deegan.
32:22And we always see, once he gets to that 15-minute mark, Hayden gives stronger and stronger.
32:27So for Chance, the bell to answer that, make Hayden make mistakes, you know, have his bike smoke in the first moto.
32:33But not only that, maybe if he can hold him off another lap in the half.
32:38Man, Jason, I think we're going to have some battles with these two guys.
32:41As we're watching Joe Shimoda and Levi Kitchen go for it.
32:43Let's see if Levi go after another attack.
32:47Levi crossed by eight ruts going right there.
32:49Yeah, it's been fun to watch the 47, man.
32:52He is loose.
32:54Letting it hang out right now.
33:01And makes it happen.
33:05Great move by Levi.
33:06And one thing that's different this weekend, these guys are not used to riding in the second motos.
33:10You know, they're normally first, so the track's a lot rougher than it used to be.
33:14This is Jett Lawrence and Eli Tomac.
33:16That's what they're supposed to deal with.
33:17So for him, difficult racetrack.
33:22Let's see if Joe can have a response.
33:23Will?
33:25Well, this will be a nice rescue result here for the day.
33:27Because talking to Levi yesterday, he had his sights set on the overall win.
33:32He saw the conditions here, the rats as an opportunity in order to kind of get back into this series.
33:38He did obviously get a 3-3 there last weekend at Hangtown.
33:41But when I asked him, kind of, what's with the slow start, he said, to be honest, this is just, you know, three and a half, four months off the bike.
33:47It's like when you've got that kind of time in between gate drops, a little bit of nerves come in.
33:51And I just kind of said, I've got to race this out.
33:54So a great step forward here for Levi Kitchen.
33:57Yeah, that's wild.
33:58He's looking at an 8-3 moto score for third overall.
34:03But everyone has had their problems today for the most part.
34:05And, James, how about the fact that Hymus and Deegan have nearly a minute over everyone else?
34:12Wow.
34:13No, that's the way this track has been set up.
34:16I mean, we're watching these guys, and I'm sure I sound like a broken record talking about, you know, once you get close to making a mistake.
34:22But, I mean, the proof is out here.
34:24I mean, as quickly as Levi was able to get around Joe, it took him a long time to be able to do that because he kept making mistakes.
34:30And let's see if Joe can do the same thing.
34:33He's close to him.
34:35White flags out.
34:37This is for the podium.
34:38Shimoda not giving up.
34:39Smoking Joe is going back after the kitchen.
34:43Lap rider on the outside.
34:45They clear him.
34:46Okay, clearly they both have the word at this point this is for the podium because they are going for it on the final lap.
34:52Yeah, no, this is the difference between coach class and first class right here on the plane.
34:56So, you better get through it.
34:58This podium means a lot to these guys.
35:01Oh, yeah.
35:01Bonus money on the line, I'm sure, for both.
35:04And a little confidence, too, because kitchen clapped up on the podium last week.
35:08Shimoda has been the second best guy behind Deacon at the first couple races.
35:12Now we're seeing the kitchen and Hymas.
35:15We expected Joe's not going to give up on it.
35:19Man, look at these, and these guys are jumping down these hills into those ruts, the sun, the way that the shadows are.
35:30Super difficult, and at most tracks, you'd think this race is over as far as on the podium, but, man, we see how quickly guys can make mistakes.
35:38Joe can be back up on in another corner or two if Levi makes one.
35:41The outback in fifth.
35:46Well done, Casey Cochran, hanging on right now in sixth, but no one doing it better than this.
35:53Sheckard flag is out.
35:54Chance Hymas does it.
35:551-1 for the overall of Colorado.
36:00Battle continues.
36:01Shimoda in kitchen.
36:02Let's see what Joe does.
36:05He pushes.
36:06We saw him just let off the brakes last week and played the game of chicken with Casey, so let's see what happened to Joe.
36:13I believe Chance Hymas hit neutral.
36:15I think he wanted to do a whip and came up short, but nonetheless, this battle for third place is still on.
36:22And you would think they're nearing the finish, but since they were a minute back, there's still a lot of racetrack to go,
36:28even though Hymas and Deacon have already gone to the finish line.
36:32Yeah, Hymas is on his way to the press conference already.
36:36Here comes Shimoda.
36:43Man, these bikes are struggling.
36:45Joe ain't smoking no more, so he's probably happy this race is over with.
36:49Last turn.
36:50Kitchen does it.
36:528-3 for third overall.
36:55And Shimoda.
36:57Fast for second.
37:05First of all.
37:06Half Weapon.
37:07Good.
37:07High Weapon.
37:08Good.
37:08What.
37:09Good.
37:09You schools.
37:10Good.
37:10Good.
37:11Good.
37:11Good.
37:12Good.
37:12Good.
37:13Good.
37:13Good.
37:13Good.
37:14Good.
37:14Good.
37:15Good.
37:15Good.
37:15Good.
37:16Good.
37:17Good.
37:18Good.
