00:00In a disappointing announcement for the LGBTQ plus community and its allies, Pride in Liverpool 2025, including the annual March with Pride, has been cancelled.
00:11The event was scheduled for Saturday 26th of July, but organisers say mounting financial and organisational pressures made it impossible to go ahead.
00:21The Liverpool City Region Pride Foundation says it's been hit hard in recent months, operating with an almost entirely volunteer-led team.
00:30Combined with the rising costs and challenges securing both national and local funding, the group says it simply couldn't deliver the event this year.
00:38They also cited the recent decision to cut ties with corporate sponsor Barclays, following community feedback a move they say they stand by, but one that further delayed planning.
00:47In a statement, the Board of Directors said they are devastated, adding that coming together this year feels more important than ever for solidarity, for protests and for celebration.
00:59But they are not giving up. Discussions with Liverpool City Council and local sponsors are already in motion for a return in 2026.
01:08In the meantime, the Foundation are supporting other Pride events across the region this summer and are actively working on ways to bring the community together later this year.
01:19Regional events are still said to take place in Sefton, Halton, St Helens, Knowsley and Wirral.
01:25Organisers say any March registration fees paid for this year will be refunded and invoices will not be raised for those organisations who had registered to March.
01:35They say their priority now is building a sustainable community-led future for Pride in Liverpool, one that reflects the values and resilience of the city.
