The Ministry of Defence is responding to claims made by Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro, that a group of armed terrorists were captured attempting to enter Venezuela from Trinidad. Defence Minister Wayne Sturge says, there is no evidence to support the allegations at this time. Rynessa Cutting reports.

00:00Trinidad and Tobago's Ministry of Defense says it has initiated a comprehensive investigation into claims made by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro that a group of armed terrorists were captured attempting to enter Venezuela from Trinidad.
00:15Yesterday, we captured a group of terrorists attempting to enter the eastern part of the country from Trinidad and Tobago with a shipment of weapons of war, half of whom were Colombian sicarios, brought across to the Caribbean Sea to enter.
00:36President Maduro did not say how many persons were captured on Monday. Neither did he indicate the nationality of the other men.
00:44However, the Ministry of Defense says preliminary findings indicate that there is no evidence to support the allegations made by Maduro.
00:53Despite this, the Ministry says it is taking immediate and decisive steps to address the matter with the utmost seriousness and urgency,
01:02and is working in close coordination with law enforcement agencies and security forces to enhance surveillance and reinforce border security in critical areas.
01:12The Ministry is to engage its Venezuelan counterparts through the appropriate diplomatic channels to gather information that could assist in this matter.
01:21The Venezuelan president was speaking at the swearing-in of the governor of Sucre State, Joana Carrillo, on Tuesday.
01:28He warned his fellow countrymen to keep their eyes and ears on high alert in the face of what he called terrorist attacks from the far right,
01:36since he was re-elected president in January.
01:39What did they do first four months of the year?
01:48Attack the economy, prepare terrorist attacks, but we neutralized with the capture of the most important leaders of the terrorist groups.
01:57A thousand eyes, a thousand eyes, a thousand ears, because the terrorists have not been able to do it, nor will they be able to.
02:09But in a show of strength, Maduro vowed that the terrorists will never succeed, as he swore to bring peace and stability to Venezuela.
