00:00Shell Trinidad and Tobago Ltd., a subsidiary of Shell PLC, has announced that it has taken a final investment decision, or FID, on the Aphrodite project, which is an undeveloped gas field that was discovered in 2022 in the East Coast Marine Area, or ECMA, in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:21However, Shell said that development of the Aphrodite field remains subject to receipt of all applicable regulatory approvals and, once approved, is expected to start production in 2027 with an estimated peak production of approximately 18,400 barrels of oil equivalent per day, which is the equivalent of 107 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
00:46Shell said Aphrodite will allow Shell to incrementally expand its integrated gas business by building on existing developments in the ECMA, which it identified as one of Trinidad and Tobago's most prolific gas-producing areas.
01:02Shell said the ECMA is currently home to its largest gas-producing fields in the country, including Dolphin, Starfish, Bounty and Endeavour.
01:11Shell said that once online, this gas field will serve as a backfill for the Atlantic LNG facility in Point Fortin, which, according to Atlantic's website, is one of the world's largest producers of liquefied natural gas.
01:25Shell also said increased production will help to maximize the potential utilization of Shell's existing assets.
01:31Shell quoted its senior vice president and country chair for Shell Trinidad and Tobago, Adam Lomas, as having said,
01:38quote, by increasing the gas supply to Atlantic LNG, the project will not only serve to fortify the domestic gas market, it will also boost the local petrochemical and power generation industries, end quote.
01:52Shell said that once all applicable regulatory approvals are received, Shell will be the operator of Aphrodite with a 100% working interest under the Block 5A production-sharing contract and Block E production-sharing contract.
02:06Shell made the announcement less than a week after BPTT announced the first supply of natural gas, or first gas, from the Mento Development Joint Venture with EOG Resources, Trinidad Limited, off Trinidad's southeast coast.
