00:00During the 2025 Caribbean Sustainable Energy Conference at the Hilton Trinidad and Conference Centre,
00:07BPTT's President David Campbell participated in a panel discussion that in part dealt with the energy needs of the future
00:14and the present demand for products derived from crude oil and natural gas.
00:20I mean, it's great that you're going to see the solar farm in Piarco, but one day I hope to welcome you to see something rather larger down in Britchon Castle.
00:27And that's, you know, Trinidad is leading the Caribbean now.
00:32I mean, it's almost 100 megawatts of renewable power, all of which can be used to supplant the burning of gas for electricity
00:40so that that gas can then go to the downstream or indeed to liquefied natural gas earning foreign exchange for the country.
00:47It makes a lot of sense.
00:49However, until then, Trinidad and Tobago shall continue to depend on natural gas for electricity
00:55as well as the production of major revenue earning exports such as LNG, ammonia and methanol.
01:01This here cross-border gas, should the focus now really be more on domestic and regional
01:07and let's say wait until any other developments with cross-border?
01:12Well, let's just see what works out.
01:15I'm very interested in, you know, this is really a matter for the various governments that are involved.
01:21But we'll be ready, as I'm sure our competitors will be as well,
01:25to take advantage of whatever opportunities exist between countries and in countries.
01:30And don't forget also the deeper waters of Trinidad and Tobago,
01:33which is very much within the purview and responsibility of the local area.
01:37The next bed round for local deep and shallow water exploration is set to be conducted by the Energy Ministry
01:44under the new Energy Minister, Dr. Rudal Munilal.
01:48We've heard some good news lately about the local production site, at least where natural gas is considered.
01:55Going into the next, let's say, couple of quarters for the rest of the year,
01:59what is the outlook at this from BPTT's perspective where Trinidad and Tobago is considered?
02:04Well, I think we've made a lot of progress in the last year or so.
02:09I'm really pleased with that.
02:11You're right, production has been stronger.
02:14The underlying performance of the business has been good.
02:17I think cooperation across the industry is very positive.
02:20I give credit to the government that we worked with before
02:23and the early conversations we've had with the new government as well.
02:29So that's, I think, all augurs very well for Trinidad and Tobago.
