00:00We have always very much supported and substanced the ASEAN initiatives in various fields because we believe this is very, the regional cooperation has been in our DNA since 80 years.

00:13Cooperation between ASEAN and the European Union, two of the world's most influential regional blocs, has taken on greater significance amid shifting global dynamics and rising geopolitical fragmentation.

00:36This is what EU's envoy to Malaysia, Rafael Dar, affirmed, stressing the need for both regions to strengthen their partnership based on shared values and a common commitment to stability, multilateralism and a rules-based international order.

00:52If you look at the two regional organizations, the EU and ASEAN, you could probably call them the two most successful regional organizations in the world.

01:02We truly believe that the EU and ASEAN are natural partners in that respect.

01:09This has become particularly important now with the global landscape having become a bit more volatile even.

01:17So to be turning towards each other and looking for reliable partners is essential in these times.

01:24He added that the upcoming ASEAN summit is set to draw a high-level turnout from across the globe, a clear reflection of the bloc's growing influence.

01:39I think if you just look at the upcoming summit and how many people will be coming and who is coming, it's a testament to the importance and to the convening power of ASEAN.

01:51In an increasingly fragmented world, where small and middle powers risk being pulled between larger geopolitical forces,

01:59dire-state cooperation between regional entities like ASEAN and the EU offers stability and predictability.

02:05We are, I would say, a community of countries or communities, families of countries that are very similar.

02:14Most of us are middle-power countries.

02:17We all depend on frameworks of regional and international cooperation that provide predictable rules-based environment for us to cooperate,

02:28not to be pushed into one or the other direction by bigger powers.

02:34He emphasized that regional cooperation has always been at the core of the EU's approach,

02:40making it essential for the two blocs to engage and work together.

02:45I think EU-ASEAN cooperation has been a cooperation between the two most successful regional organizations in the world.

02:54A lot has happened already, but much more can be done.

02:59So I think every meeting we have, every area we look at to further our cooperation,

03:06will be for the benefit of the people in this region and in the EU.
