08:48I love to watch this from this kid.
08:50That's rare to have somebody so young to be able to ride as he's a veteran.

11:17When I talk about being patient in the corner,
11:19it almost looks like he was coasting like his bike was shed off in that corner.
11:23It's just admiring how easy he is on the throttle,
11:26and that takes a lot of discipline to be able to do that,
11:29especially when you've got Eli Tomac.
11:31Again, I think where he's better than Eli is these really tight corners,
11:35corners where there's the hump going into him.
11:38He slows down, and he doesn't slam into it.
11:41The faster part of the racetrack, Eli's quicker.
11:43He's able to charge into it like here.

11:49When you get into that tighter section,
11:51Jeff's just so easy on the throttle.

14:27Jet has not raced Eli outdoors,
14:29so, unlike J. Sexton and some of these other guys,
14:32you know, you get a good feeling
14:33of the guys you're racing against.
14:34You just know, look, if I'm in front of him,
14:36the guy's probably not going to pass me.
14:38He don't know that about Eli.
14:39All he knows is that beef mode comes out,
14:41and it's like seeing Bigfoot out there,
14:43and he don't want no piece of that.
14:44So, maybe these are some of those small mistakes
14:47that you're seeing for Jet.
14:48So, if Eli can kind of stay there,
14:49it's going to be one of those unknowns for him.
14:51They don't know how each other's going to race.
14:53It's going to be good.
14:54And they're testing each other,
14:55coming back from injury to torn ACL and surgery for Jet.
15:00They both made mistakes in that corner.

15:22he's riding great, but he's kind of on the edge.
15:26I mean, it looks like it's a lot harder for him
15:28to stay there than it is on Jet.
15:30Jet's got a great line after this finish line.
15:32He's doing the opposite of these guys
15:34and doubling into this rhythm section,
15:36which is open the corner.

22:10coming off that ACL,
22:11because there's a race fitness,
22:13and he's going to have to try to figure it out.

23:47where he did his best work.

23:54that's a wounded duck in front of him.
23:57That duck's a tough one at that.
23:59If he could just get close to him,
24:01and he can somehow survive losing as much time
24:03as he was in the beginning, as he has
24:05around that finish line,
24:07Eli knows, and you can smell it as a rider,
24:09you can see Jett sitting down a little bit more.

24:15Tomac only fourth in Moto 1.
24:17Even if he wins the Moto,
24:19Jett Lawrence wins the overall,
24:21but is it about that at all right now?
24:23It ain't about that, especially with Eli.
24:25And my key to the Moto was to close the gap.
24:27Eli must have heard me, his mechanic,
24:29told him, J said, close the gap,
24:31and he showed he has.
24:33Well, the key to the Moto in the first Moto
24:35was his statement. He would certainly do that.
24:37He would certainly do that
24:39if he could pass Jett.
24:41Yeah, he can, and I'm sure Eli's been
24:43at home watching Chase Sexton
24:45being the same spot, you know,
24:47time after time.
24:49I believe you're dealing with a different animal.
24:51We know when Eli, I think confidence
24:53has him being here with confidence,
24:55he'll be able to overcome that difference.
24:57Again, he doesn't have the history
24:59with Jett, Jett riding away from him.

26:13get this close to Jett in the past, and it
26:15seems like he gets really excited.
26:17Kind of messes up these
26:19corners, and Jett did the same thing earlier.
26:21Now he's putting in a little
26:23blitz in the halfway of his lap. Try to break
26:25Eli, try to get him off that
26:27spear, because he's starting to find your lines.
26:29He's trying to find that toe.
26:33Who cares? We don't need all that power.
26:35We don't need both legs on the bike.
26:37Yeah, he didn't even lose time.

27:17where Eli was losing time, I actually
27:19think he's made this one of his better
27:21sections, jumping towards the inside it is.

27:31plenty of time in there, five laps to go.

27:47seeing in the mechanics area?
27:49Just trying to figure out the messaging from
27:51the mechanics to the riders.
27:53There are just so much
27:55yelling and excitement,
27:57and it's the complete opposite with Jett.
27:59It's calm, it just told him that
28:01last time around, Christian Ducharme,
28:03five laps to go, so giving him an idea of
28:05how much time you have to withstand this pressure
28:07lap, it just almost represents
28:09the way they ride, too. Tomac just
28:11wide open everywhere, where Jett trying
28:13to finesse his way around. The mechanics messaging
28:15was almost the same.

28:23Might have a chance here, a little mistake by Jett
28:25in that corner. Liked that inside line

28:39Missing some of those bunts, but you notice how his bike
28:41is really bouncy on some of these sections.
28:43I think that's partly what we were watching.
28:45When he gets closer to some of these
28:47insides, you notice Eli's bike, when he
28:49slams into it, is rebounding pretty
28:51hard for him, so he's definitely losing a lot of
28:53time there.
28:57A lot of traffic all over the place.
28:59Now, late in this moto.
29:01That lapper might have helped
29:03him, because I think that line that Eli just took
29:05a little bit better, not so much of a
29:07hook. He changed
29:09lines because of the lap rider. Yeah, now,
29:11but he's got to figure out that line's better,
29:13so you'll probably see the next
29:15lap, he'll go out there.
29:17He's got to get in front of these lap
29:19riders, see how busy Eli's
29:21bike is, especially when he slams on the brake
29:23compared to Jet.
29:25This is what you call
29:27the pick-and-roll set in
29:29NBA. Get your lapper in front
29:31of him. Lap rider throws Eli
29:33off.
29:37Two minutes
29:39and two laps left.
29:43Back to an almost two-second gap.
29:48Jet got through that corner
29:50very good. And it's going to be tough.
29:52Will it be four laps, will it be three?
29:54They're saying four,
29:56but it's going to come down to a few seconds,
29:58I think, on that.

30:14Just really getting over that section. We mentioned
30:16last year with Chase.

31:05instead of worrying about doing a full, complete
31:07lap. Let me get in sections where Eli
31:09is closing in. Let me go faster and try to
31:11break him because if I can keep that
31:13section where he's quicker and not
31:15let him gain, then Eli will probably start
31:17just like, all right, second moto is a good one.
31:22Yeah, suddenly two and a half seconds.
31:24Yeah, if he doesn't get back close to him
31:26on the finish line, this race might be
31:28might be difficult
31:30for him.
31:34Hunter Lawrence, meanwhile, up five seconds
31:36now on Plessiger for third.
31:38Prado, fifth. Great ride
31:40for him. Webb, Anderson, Cooper,
31:42Pacherell, and Suffaci. That's
31:44the top ten.
31:50That's nice.
31:52Not quite over. Got it back
31:54down to two seconds. And we
31:56said it would be close on the clock, and it was.
31:58There were five seconds
32:00left. So it's three to go,
32:02not two.
32:10So the last couple
32:12of years here, they've done 15
32:14laps, but today
32:16they're going to do 16
32:18because they got one more lap in under the 30
32:20minutes. That's how hard they're pushing right now.
32:24Man, these guys are rolling, and you got
32:26a mad respect to both
32:28of them. These guys are running some
32:30lap times just to be able to sustain this
32:32pressure, and just knowing as a racer
32:34it's not like he's been out here going wide
32:36open. They've been picking their laps, and
32:38there's moments of the races where you can
32:40break another guy, and Jett figured out, this
32:42is that moment. If I can get to him, then I can
32:44kind of relax these next two laps.
32:46And Eli's just trying to keep them,
32:48but it's hard.
32:50Yeah, how much are they
32:52for the endurance factor?
32:54Picking spots to,
32:56I'm going to chill a few laps, I'm going to
32:58make a flurry. Is that all
33:00happening with both of them at times? No, absolutely.
33:02And especially in Jett's situation.
33:04It's hard to build a, he's riding
33:06with eyes in the back of his head.
33:08At some point, he realized he wasn't
33:10going to be able to pull away from Eli, but he doesn't
33:12want Eli on the back fender, because he knows
33:14how much confidence he's getting. So, to
33:16be able to figure out where Eli's been good
33:18at what sections, and then pick it up,
33:20then you just kind of wait, you let him
33:22get there, as long as he's still in second
33:24or two, Eli's going to put in that flurry,
33:26but to be able to have that stamina, and have
33:28the belief
33:30to be able to do it, and make
33:32this move, and be able to pull that gap out,
33:34that's what you're just seeing. And all of a sudden, that gap
33:36that went from two seconds to four seconds,
33:38that is some hard
33:40racing to do. It is definitely
33:42chest, not checkers out here,
33:44and it's 18.
33:46This is an impressive ride, Jason.
33:48I'm not going to lie, this is very impressive, because
33:50he's doing it against a guy that we know
33:52is called beast mode, and is really strong.
33:54Coming off an ACL injury,
33:56you know Eli doesn't want anything
33:58more than to come out here and beat this kid.
34:00To do something that no one else has been able to do,
34:02you know you want it.
34:04Yeah, I mean, seven,
34:06maybe eight minutes left in this mode,
34:08it looked like Jett was on the ropes.
34:10Yeah, it was, and truthfully,
34:12it's a corner or two for Eli,
34:14it changes this whole race. If he was somehow
34:16able to get closer to Jett,
34:18or even around, then this whole race
34:20would look a lot different. That's why
34:22earlier I said, Eli looked like he was on that
34:24verge of like, man, if he
34:26just could stay there, he'd be fine,
34:28but it looked like he was doing it a lot harder.
34:30It's a lot more effort for him to do it,
34:32so, now you're starting to see that
34:34pay out. Now it's almost at six seconds.
34:36Two to go, for Jett
34:38Lawrence, to make his return to
34:40racing with a one-one.
34:44Yeah, he's got him, Eli.
34:46He threw in the towel on this point.
34:50Eli will end up second overall, he'll tie
34:52Hunter Lawrence on points for the day,
34:54but the tiebreaker is
34:56the better second moto, JT.
34:58You know, this is such
35:00an impressive ride by Jett. Now, I would just say
35:02this is, I think, some of the deepest
35:04I've ever seen Jett have to go,
35:06right? He's not all the way back to 100%
35:08yet. That was a really,
35:10really big test
35:12for Eli Tomek there, that he, it's not over,
35:14but he has withstood it so far,
35:16and honestly, I don't think he necessarily
35:18knew that he would be able to do it.
35:20So, both of them are coming back from injury,
35:22neither of them are probably exactly where they
35:24want to be yet, but I'm
35:26extremely impressed by
35:28the pressure that Jett was able to withstand,
35:30because we simply don't see people
35:32be able to do that, and for proof of that,
35:34look at the gap. Hunter Lawrence is
35:3630 seconds behind these
35:38two. Yeah, no,
35:40I couldn't agree with you more, JT.
35:42Like, I think it's a test for both of them, and
35:44I don't know if Eli believed how long he
35:46could go for, so, you know, as much
35:48as he's going to probably be a little disappointed,
35:50Eli should be happy at this ride, because
35:52for him coming off the injury, and we know
35:54he's a dominant Jett, I mean, he won all these races,
35:56he's never lost here,
35:58he'll come off this, you've got to be
36:00impressed with him, and Eli will only get
36:02better, he knows he has
36:04the speed, he's able to close on him, but
36:06at the same time, I'm Jett Lawrence,
36:08I'm saying to myself,
36:10it doesn't matter who it is, Chase Sexton,
36:12Hunter Lawrence, Eli Toback,
36:14they're all going to get in the same spot,
36:16they're all going to believe they can catch me, and I'm going
36:18to run away from them, and do it in a sense,
36:20and I'm not even 100% back.
36:22That's huge, so
36:24both these guys, I believe, are winners today,
36:26but the 18 is
36:28dominant right now. And I'll give a
36:30little preview of next week, so
36:32for whatever reason, Jett Lawrence rides
36:34incredibly well at this track, but we've seen
36:36some of Tomac's best rides ever
36:38at the next track,
36:40which is Hightown, so we might see
36:42these two settle in
36:44for a whole lot more battles like this,
36:46but as far as this track is concerned,
36:48Jett is
36:50working on 91 consecutive
36:52laps led at this track.
36:56Yeah, you can see a welcome back
36:58for sure.
37:02And the one thing here, we'll say that's different
37:04for Eli Tomac, what Jett
37:06beating him here, won't do the same
37:08thing as what if this was Chase Sexton
37:10in that spot. You know, this is a whole
37:12different feel. I do believe, like, Eli
37:14can go next weekend and feel like,
37:16then I was that close, I haven't been racing,
37:18I can beat him, where I think Chase
37:20would hit a little bit differently because
37:22this has happened to him in the past.
37:24This happens a couple more weeks, then
37:26Eli might start feeling like some of these other guys,
37:28but I think this is over, and
37:30like what you just said, Jason, I wouldn't be surprised
37:32if Eli came out dominant
37:34next weekend because of what we saw
37:36here today. And it's odd to
37:38say this about a rider coming back from ACL
37:40surgery, but really, it's
37:42still more recent that Jett has been doing
37:44this in pro motocross than Tomac. He raced
37:46two last year, they were okay.
37:48But he hasn't raced at this pace, Tomac,
37:50in a couple of years. Even Jett is
37:52less than a year removed
37:54from winning races outdoors.
37:56Yeah, 100%. And again, you're coming to a track
37:58that you could argue that this is
38:00Jett's best track out of all the
38:02circuits. And then Eli,
38:04this is one of his worst tracks, so
38:06we knew coming into this, I don't think it was
38:08whether Jett was strong enough
38:10injury-wise. I felt like his ACL
38:12wouldn't be a problem. Whether it would be
38:14his motorcycle, the question was those
38:16side of things. How would the Honda be?
38:18Just race fitness and things like that.
38:20So, him being here,
38:22riding this good, the bike looked that good, it's not surprising.
38:24And if I'm Eli Tomac again,
38:26I'm actually pretty happy on this.
38:28I think they need to work on the bike.
38:30I believe his corners and the way the bike was set up
38:32was killing him a little bit. That's some of the time
38:34he's lost, but overall, it's him.
38:38Oh, Aaron Plesinger has just
38:40gotten under Lawrence because of this. Look at Hunter
