02:35Bomer, if he can hold this to the end of the lap, and it's going to be close because vial
02:41is right there, yes, first career lap lead in pro motocross for juju.
02:49This is a great opportunity.
02:50These guys know it's going to be a long race because hayden is going to be there the whole
02:54time.
02:55Hopefully for them, maybe joe can get up there and slow that pace.
02:57We heard hayden say he was just being very patient in the beginning part, letting the
03:00race come to him.
03:01You see they put some water down.
03:04It makes it really tricky in these conditions, especially in the second moto as the track
03:07dries out.
03:08We've told the story of bomer many times.
03:11His dad was a great jet ski mechanic, worked for jet ski racing teams, moved to america.
03:17From france to work in jet ski racing, and eventually juju became a heck of a jet ski
03:23racer himself.
03:24Didn't really take the motocross thing as seriously until probably about 13, 14 years
03:30old.
03:31It's a little later than most, but he is all in now, and what a rider he has become, and
03:37same thing for shimoda.
03:38He is not giving deegan any room.
03:42That was a beautiful line by joe.
03:43Going a little bit farther inside than where hayden was.
03:46Really smooth.
03:47Set him up better for the next one, so pay attention to that.
03:50Joe knows he wants to try to get around hayden early in this moto, not let anything settle
03:55in.
03:56He might have an opportunity here.
03:57I like this outside line over hayden.

04:02And seth hamaker watching this right in front of him, and shimoda throwing it all on deegan.

04:17That inside must be very difficult and deep for those guys because they all funneled in
04:22the same line, so he's got to find somewhere else.

04:29And there's ruts going down that hill.
04:36That was actually a pretty great move by joe to cut across those ruts.
04:39Deegan made a mistake coming out of the turn.
04:42Shimoda almost got him again, and this is what you've got to do if you're joe.
04:46You've got to just pressure him.
04:47Hayden's probably not used to putting as much pressure or getting as much pressure from
04:51guys.
04:52He's used it the opposite way around, so this is what joe needs to do, and he's literally
04:55right on his rear fender.
04:57I love this.
04:59And with the two-moto format, as always in pro motocross, if shimoda beats deegan, he
05:04could win the overall today if he wins the moto, so there's plenty of motivation for
05:09the 30.
05:10Yeah, I mean, I think at this point they're not even worried about that.
05:13I think joe is building that confidence just by staying there, and he should be.
05:16He's the only one keeping hayden actually closing in on him in that first moto, so joe
05:22should feel pretty confident.
05:23He said he was ready to go.
05:27You go back a couple years ago, jason, like, remember, joe came out here after that moto.
05:31He got into it with hunter lawrence and put the beat down on these guys, and he's with
05:35mitch payton, so he's been trying to ride these tracks.
05:39There was a time, I think, where shimoda, as the lawrence brothers are winning titles
05:42and eventually graduated into the 450 class, and shimoda might have been considered maybe
05:47the top next 250 guy.
05:50He's been good but not quite to that standard the last year and a half, but he's on fire
05:54right now, jt.
05:55That's right, weegee.
05:56If you think about joe shimoda and his history here, he used to win in california going back
06:01to his geico honda days.
06:02This was his primary practice track.
06:04There were documentaries where he was here every single practice day.
06:08They offered putting in the laps, trying to hone his skills.
06:11Go back to last year, how fast he was in that final moto, it shouldn't be a shock how good
06:16he is here.
06:17This is a track that's sneaky good for joe shimoda, so I think he feels very comfortable.
06:21And then degan, of course, grew up here as well, so maybe the two riders with the most
06:25experience on this track, although bowmair out of arizona certainly spent some time here,
06:30and he's showing it right now.
06:32Bowmair has actually opened it to two seconds on vl.
06:38He's out of the shot right now.
06:39Yeah, julian putting in some great laps.
06:41You wonder if tom making a mistake or julian just getting away from him because he's definitely
06:45putting it in, and you wouldn't think he would have that much more pace because tom looked
06:49pretty good, but nonetheless, ktm is working good.
06:54Both of them out front, one and two.
06:56And then heim is third in moto one, only ninth right now after the bad start.

07:04Yeah, hating to me, as long as joe is not putting it in a wheel, he looks pretty calm
07:09to me.
07:10You know, I don't think he's really too worried about these guys.
07:13He's got a nice gap.
07:14Julian, yeah, you can let him go, but he knows by the end of the race he's probably going
07:17to get back to him, so had a little tear off stuck on his hand right there.
07:24Yeah, because degan has been so strong in the motos late in the race the last year or
07:28so, how much more patience does that give you in the early laps?
07:32I mean, it gives you a lot.
07:33I mean, at this point, I don't think he's concerned about who's out front as long as
07:37that gap stays there, and he just knows, I think he believes he's the best in shape.
07:42He has the history of being able to get these guys, so as long as, again, like I mentioned,
07:46joe shimoda or somebody is not running a wheel on him, worried about taking him out, hayden's
07:50fine.
07:51Another rider to watch is at the back of this battle, garrett marchbanks has had the fastest
07:55lap of this race, two laps in a row.
07:58He's up to fifth just behind shimoda now, and there he is.
08:02Yeah, you saw hayden take a look back in that corner, and that just further proves my point
08:08where he's not even necessarily worried about who's out front.
08:11He just wants to make sure he can take his line to let this race go in, and he'll get
08:15there eventually.
08:16But, yeah, good to see garrett up.
08:17He rode great in practice.
08:20I thought he rode great in the first moto, so now it's about a better start.
08:23Let's see what he can do with it.

08:34And in the bottom, that's marchbanks now closing on shimoda.
08:39If you notice these guys, they're running a lot more outsides in their second moto, and
08:42I think the reason is because, one, the track's getting really choppy, but those ruts on the
08:47inside are getting those l-shapes, and on the 250, because they get stuck in there,
08:51they're losing so much power.
08:52So maybe they watched a video in between practice and realized these insides aren't really working
08:57out, especially if you lose the toe and you make a mistake in the bottom.
09:00You lose a lot of time around this racetrack.
09:05Yeah, it was that outside that put bohm error into the lead originally over vial, and he
09:09just keeps on stretching it.
09:13Starting to close back in on him.
09:15He is, and marchbanks right there with him.
09:17You can see in that bottom box, marchbanks in green and the monster of pro circuit kawasaki.
09:24Now deegan really leaning on vial.
09:26Yeah, he stayed on the outside, so missed that bump.
09:30Now he's got a good line right here.
09:32I like how he's squaring that up because it just opens up this next corner.
09:36Now he's able to cut back in on the inside, and so for him, maybe it's not quicker at
09:40this moment, but it's a lot easier on the body, and eventually that line is going to
09:45come into form, and he's got to get him.
09:54A furious first ten minutes of this one.
09:57Deegan really putting the attack on vial now for second place.

10:03I was going to say, if hayden is going to square him up or just go around the outside
10:06of him, another opportunity, slingshot this thing, so if he can get a run, maybe he can
10:12get back towards the inside, kind of blew that corner.
10:15Tom got out of that one pretty good, so nice move by hayden.

11:03Well, hayden deegan's teammate, nate thrasher, not out there at the moment.
11:07He got run over, apparently, in mode 01.
11:10They were worried about some possible internal injuries, rib injuries, so they have taken
11:14them to the hospital for further evaluation to the end of the day for the 41 of thrasher.
11:18Oh, bummer to hear that.
11:20Shimoda attacking deegan, who's right there with vial, and now we have heard that chance
11:25hymus has put in the fastest lap of the race.
11:28He's in eighth after the bad start.
11:30Can he get to this group?
11:32Yeah, you notice when hayden went down the inside on that corner going down that downhill,
11:36normally, as he makes a move, yeah, he caught tom sleeping right there.
11:41He got on the inside, but hayden went down the inside of that last corner, and then he
11:45snuck back and just went straight to the outside, because as I mentioned, the inside has been
11:49slower.
11:49Now it's up to joe shimoda to try to get around tom if he wants a chance.
11:54That was beautiful.
11:57Critical juncture for vial, shimoda, and march banks.
12:02Trying to go with deegan.
12:05Just been going around the outside here.
12:15Everybody funnels back into the inside right here.
12:18Definitely tricky.
12:28Track looks pretty difficult right now.

12:33And they are tiptoeing through some of these sections.
12:37Yeah, it makes it difficult here, because you can see how hard it is on that bottom
12:41and the bikes.
12:42You can see all the handlebars.
12:43It's like you've got a jackhammer, but then you have this loose soil on top, so it makes
12:47it really slippery.
12:49It's a tricky racetrack when it comes down there.
12:51So many different conditions.
12:52You've got ruts.
12:53You've got a flat hard pack.
12:54You've got loose stuff on it.
12:55The guys are doing a good job, but as this race goes on, that's only going to get more
12:59harder for them.
13:01Deegan slipping away now from vial and shimoda.
13:06Yeah, you see that line that tom has.
13:12The inside of the inside.
13:13Yeah, it's just a rut.
13:15It's a long rut, but it's straight.
13:17Those guys, it's not killing their momentum.
13:21Joe's been really quick on this side of the track as they close back in on hayden.
13:30Inside of the inside there for shimoda, and it works.
13:33Yeah, that was a mistake by tom.
13:35It looked like tom got confused on what line he wanted to go.
13:37He was too far on the outside to get to the inside, but then he tried going there, and
13:42he got stuck in the middle.
13:43Nice move by joe not following.
13:45And then you saw march banks got into the back of vial, and they got held up.
13:52And he has to reset.
13:59And one more piece of this is hymus back in eighth.
14:02He is turning the fast lap times.
14:04Third and moto one.
14:06This could really affect things as far as championship points, overall podiums, things
14:10like that.
14:11Can he make some moves?
14:12You have march banks fifth.
14:15Hamaker sixth.
14:16Rodney francesco seventh.
14:18Then hymus.
14:20Yeah, I like the line tom just switched up right there.
14:23And one thing tom does great, and I think this is probably what he learned over in europe
14:28is that he's not stuck in a rut like he will regroup on here.
14:32Some guys they get past.
14:33They just continue to go backwards.
14:34I feel like tom, if he stays here, he's going to learn from these guys and switch his lines
14:39up and maybe have a chance to get back up on them.
14:42A gap that came down to less than two seconds up front.
14:51That second half of the race is looming, and that's often where degan does his best work
14:55as he tries to catch the leader, julian bomer.

19:20He just knows what they're going to do before they do.
19:22And he has an answer for every situation.
19:24I have not yet to see a dynamic where somebody wants to engage in those tactics with hayden
19:29where he doesn't come out ahead.
19:31No, absolutely not.
19:32I mean, we can sit here and say that, yeah, you want a piece of him.
19:35But really, some of these guys ain't about that life.
19:39They don't want that smoke.
19:40And hayden knows.
19:41And again, I think he feels comfortable in this spot.
19:43This is that second moto.
19:45And again, history would say this is where he does his best work.
19:49These guys know it's up to them.
19:50They're trying to change that narrative.
19:51But again, I like joe.
19:53I like his body language and how aggressive he is on his motorcycle.
19:57With all that being said, he let that number one get away from him.
20:00It's going to be all for nothing.
20:02It will be another second place finish if he can get around julian.
20:06Huge improvement for bowmayer today.
20:09This is an indicator of what he has in year two in pro moto cross after his rookie campaign
20:15last year.
20:16But no time to rest on the laurels.
20:20Now, joe has been really quick in this section.
20:22He funnels in behind julian.
20:25See if he can make that same pass hayden did.

20:28He's going to force julian to go to the inside to protect him.

20:47It almost looked like julian was thinking that joe was going to bump him off.

20:54So nonetheless, good move by joe to get around him.

21:30And, you know, the rut kind of threw his, got caught in that rut and threw his whole
21:34corner off.
21:35Those are the things, if you haven't been racing, it's, those are the parts you got
21:39to get out here and learn that again.
21:40So levi's riding pretty good.
21:43But when you're going up against all these guys who have been racing all year, you got
21:46to be on your game.
21:47Otherwise, you're going to end up in tenth place and it looks like a bad finish.
21:50So I think he'll get better as the season goes.
21:53Up top, vial makes the move on bowmair.
21:59And takes third.
22:00And march banks have been hanging with this group the whole time.
22:04Yeah, that's what I was saying about tom.
22:06Like, if he can stay close to those guys, he's very crafty.
22:09He'll pick up on those lines and switch it up.

22:16It looked like he was out of it.
22:17Next thing you know, he becomes your champion.
22:19So he knows how to continue to fight there.
22:21And still a good ride by all these guys.

22:50What's that sprint like up front when you're doing it for the first time in one of these races?

22:58As you can see, he's starting to sit down a little bit more.

23:15So to me, things are starting to happen a little quick.

23:18And whether that was for him being out front or just the second moto in the first 250 outdoor

23:24Nonetheless, you can see him starting to feel it.
23:26His body language telling you exactly what's going on.
23:29And march banks looking to take advantage of that.

23:36Deegan just turned in his best lap of the race.

23:47These two ride together during the week at the lawrence brothers compound there in florida.
23:53So they are familiar with each other.
23:55Probably looks like this a lot during the week.

24:29Chance has been stuck behind him for a couple laps now.
24:32So eventually he's probably getting frustrated.
24:34But now he's got, what, six seconds to try to close in on martin space.
24:38That's going to be a tough ask.
24:42Deegan has been able to make moves today.
24:43But everybody else, man, the starts.
24:47With how thick this field is in the 250s, what a difference that makes.

24:52And I honestly believe if hayden would have got a tenth place start, the way he's riding
24:57and just his authority around the racetrack, he would make his way up.
25:01It just comes from confidence.
25:03And when you've got that confidence, you'll just figure out a way to pass where these
25:07other guys are still trying to build it.
25:08So, yeah, the starts get to them.
25:10I don't necessarily think the starts are that important for hayden the way he's been riding
25:15because of all the confidence and all the winning that he's been doing over the last
25:18year and a half.

25:19He showed he definitely was managing the situation early in both motors.
25:22When he needed to drop the hammer, he did.
25:24And now they've got 4.7 over shimoda.

25:28When he dropped the hammer, it was like the thor hammer.

25:33Because they were there and then they weren't.

26:03Well, hayden degan has improved so much over the last few years.
26:06And you remember this was one of his first ever races in 2022.

26:14He really broke out red butt round.
26:165.5 overall would indicate he's still learning.
26:19And then last year the excellence just gets turned up.
26:22An average finish of 2.1 en route to a championship.
26:26Well, boys, he's on a route to an average finish of 1.0 so far.
26:31It's really hard to see a way for him to not get a lot more of those in 2025.

26:36But that little peek that he looked back shows me that he's still worried about where joey

28:57Another update here, drew adams beginning his full-time pro career now for real.
29:03Did jump into some super crosses this year, but this was the plan all along,
29:07that pro motocross would be the real debut.
29:09Jumped in as a fill-in rider in some super cross.
29:13He is at 14th right now after finishing top ten in moto one.
29:18Adams out of chattanooga, tennessee, but also rides at that lawrence brothers compound with
29:24the likes of hymus and hammacher.
29:28Looks like he started back in 18th, so he's made a couple passes and as much as how deep
29:33this field is, you know, I believe it was a good ride.
29:36He finished top ten that first moto, so.
29:41Battling dillon schwartz on the toyota of redlands bar x yamaha.
29:46The team used to race suzuki.
29:47They switched to yamahas this year.
29:50Is that just how tough that line is or was that a mistake from drew?
29:54It's tough.
29:54I mean, it's a little bit of both.
29:56Those guys are slamming in, and as a rider, you see somebody right in front of them.
30:00They go on the outside.
30:01You try to go in there and just bury your bike, and the way these corners are,
30:05you just lose a lot of time and just the momentum.
30:08So a mistake.
30:09But overall, you know, drew's riding good for coming out their first, you know,
30:14official pro motocross.
30:16You know, he's looking good.
30:18Second moto.
30:19Guys are starting to be tired.
30:20He looks like he still has some energy left in him.
30:23I'm sure mitch would be happy with this.
30:25Yeah, race one last year just to kind of learn the trade, but this is the real
30:29entrance into full-time pro racing, and he makes the move on schwartz.

30:54These races are he needs every experience, every lap he's going to have, and I believe
30:58by the end of this season, he'll be a top three guy.
31:02Well, that's certainly the hope.
31:03This was the guy who was battling and beating cole davies at times in smx next last year,
31:11and then davies turned pro at the beginning of the year and has gone next level.
31:14Unfortunately, davies out with an injury now, but that's the type of potential that
31:19kawasaki sees in adams.
31:22Checking in with some other riders here.
31:24I believe master pool not as good a moto this time.
31:27He is in 15th on the 26th.
31:32Yeah, a little surprising with ty today, to be honest with you.
31:37We know how good he rode last year, you know, being able to win, you know, overall with
31:41their beating hayden a couple motos out there.
31:43So starting up front, you know, again, maybe his bike's set up or who knows what's
31:49going on, but I expect him to be a little bit better since he started up front, especially
31:52that first moto.
31:54But it just shows you how good and deep this field is.
31:56Off just a little bit, you're going to end up in the top 15.
31:59And then more talent being added to that.
32:01The 201 is enzo temmerman who decided to race pro today.

33:54It just feels like he's had dominant days.
33:58But he has only gone 1-1 two times before this.
34:00Yeah, but that first one he had back in washougal, I remember watching that one.
34:03That was a coming of age race right there.
34:06But to me, this actually, to be honest with you, this was an easy day of racing for hayden.
34:12I don't think those guys are, joe is within five seconds and he rode good.
34:16But we saw how quickly hayden dropped that hammer to be able to pull that gap out.
34:21It didn't look like it was that hard for him today.
34:23It's troublesome for everybody else.
34:27Yeah, this was a bit more of almost that jett lawrence playbook.
34:30He only did what he had to do.
34:32Yeah, it looked like he had a plan.
34:34I'm going to go out there and stay up the first one.
34:3715 minutes, I'm going to drop the hammer.
34:39By 17 minutes, I'm going to have a gap and ride it on out.
34:43To me, the playbook went exactly how he thought.
34:45And when you come in there and execute the wave, because both motors are exactly the
34:49same, this guy ain't worried.
34:51Almost like he was playing with him for a little bit.
34:54Going for the 1-1 at his home track.
34:58The famous metal militia compound where he grew up.
35:02That was his dad's spot.
35:05Lots of videos back in the day shot there with the freestyle ramps and hayden doing
35:09a back flip there when he was ten years old nowadays.
35:12Spent most of his time in florida with star racing and their training facility.
35:16But he does get to come back here a couple times a year like now.
35:20And this is his backyard.
35:22And he's riding like it's his backyard.
35:24Absolutely.
35:25Well, unfortunately for all these guys, the way he rides, all these tracks are going to
35:30be his backyard.
