00:01:46Howard!
00:01:48The role that earned him six straight Emmy nominations.
00:01:52How does a beer sound, Norm?
00:01:54I don't know, coach. They usually finish it before they get a word in.
00:01:57This morning, we're going back to where everybody knows his name.
00:02:03Life untouched.
00:02:04It's Wednesday.
00:02:06Good morning, America.
00:02:08That music brings us back and we are remembering George Wendt this morning.
00:02:12Good morning, America. I hope you all are doing well.
00:02:14Yes, but we're going to begin today with another round of severe weather that happened overnight.
00:02:18At least 11 reported tornadoes touching down across four states.
00:02:22Morgan Norwood is in Madison, Alabama for us.
00:02:25Good morning, Morgan.
00:02:27Hey, good morning to you, Robin.
00:02:29This newscast is brought to you by CBS.
00:02:32Hey, good morning to you, Robin.
00:02:34This neighborhood here in Madison taking a direct hit by a reported tornado.
00:02:38Take a look at some of the debris here.
00:02:40You're actually looking at parts of a roof that was ripped off of this home right here to my left.
00:02:44Almost peeled away like a can opener.
00:02:46Further down the street, let me show you.
00:02:48It's lined with downed trees.
00:02:50And this morning, the same system that caused all of the damage that you see here on the move once again.
00:02:55Overnight, that powerful storm system unleashing another round of destructive tornadoes.
00:03:01Oh, my gosh. That's a freaking tornado.
00:03:05This twister touching down in Madison, Alabama.
00:03:08Onlookers scrambling for cover.
00:03:10In Waterloo, sirens blasting as this tornado formed over the treetops.
00:03:16Trees down in Athens, snarling traffic for miles.
00:03:18In Jackson, Tennessee, debris scattered across the sky after a reported twister tore through.
00:03:24Look at the debris fly.
00:03:26It's all a part of the same system that's already spawned 32 tornadoes across nine states in the past 48 hours.
00:03:34This surveillance video from the London Corbin Airport in Kentucky capturing the moment an EF4 tornado with winds up to 170 mph ripped through on Friday, killing 19.
00:03:45Officials confirming this is the deadliest tornado on record for eastern Kentucky.
00:03:52And this morning, as the cleanup continues across the storm zone, more than 65,000 customers without power from Georgia to Missouri.
00:04:00Michael?
00:04:02All right, Morgan, thank you for that. And the heavy rain is moving into the east coast this morning.
00:04:05Let's turn to Ginger with the track and timing of that storm.
00:04:08Good morning, Ginger.
00:04:10That's the good news, Michael, is that the tornado threat is done.
00:04:12So we can all kind of rest easy there.
00:04:14Do you think the storm system is done with us?
00:04:16No, and that would be with impacts, especially to travel.
00:04:18You can see some of the thunderstorms still making their way through Alabama and Georgia,
00:04:21but it's Virginia where Washington, D.C. will wake up with some heavy rains and then the wind.
00:04:26This is the part that's going to kind of spin up and become more than just some passing showers, especially as we get through Thursday.
00:04:32Watch what happens.
00:04:34The Philadelphia up to New York City, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
00:04:37The gusts could be 20 to even 50 miles per hour, especially at the coast.
00:04:40Boston, 2 p.m. on Thursday.
00:04:42If you have flights in the afternoon, they will likely be impacted, if not delayed, right?
00:04:47So watch what happens here.
00:04:49This is Friday, 8 a.m.
00:04:51Bar Harbor is still getting it.
00:04:53We are going to get rid of this system by Saturday and there will be some lingering showers.
00:04:56Sunday looks drier.
00:04:58But before we can do that, we've got to leave behind one to three inches.
00:05:00Pittsburgh is in a flood watch because of this.
00:05:02Oh, wow. OK, Ginger.
00:05:04Thanks very much.
00:05:06We're going to turn now to breaking news overnight in the New Orleans jailbreak.
00:05:07A fifth fugitive was caught as a maintenance worker at the correctional facility faces charges for helping the 10 inmates escape.
00:05:14Faith Abubay is in New Orleans with the latest.
00:05:16Good morning, Faith.
00:05:18Yeah, good morning to you, George.
00:05:20That fifth escaped inmate was captured last night at his grandmother's apartment.
00:05:24But a source tells ABC that it doesn't appear that the grandmother knew that she was harboring a fugitive.
00:05:30Overnight, another fugitive on the run from the New Orleans jailbreak captured.
00:05:35This as authorities expand the investigation into whether the massive security breach was an inside job.
00:05:42A fourth jail employee now suspended.
00:05:45Another booked into jail, accused of helping the inmates by shutting off water to this toilet so the group could escape through a hole behind the wall.
00:05:53Ten violent offenders don't make their escape through concrete, rebar and barbed wire without there being some sort of inside assistance.
00:06:02According to court documents, Sterling Williams confessed to investigators claiming he did it because one of the inmates threatened to shank him.
00:06:11If he was under threat, then he certainly should have brought that to someone else's attention.
00:06:15Nearly a week since the jailbreak, five of the 10 escapees still on the run.
00:06:20New surveillance video showing three of the fugitive inmates in an alley an hour after they all escaped.
00:06:26One of them convicted killer, Derek Groves.
00:06:29He's proven he's willing to kill.
00:06:31Meantime, victims of the fugitive inmates on edge.
00:06:34One of them opening up about his concerns while asking ABC to only use his voice.
00:06:40I was thinking about getting out of town because this guy could come back and look for my address and come in and shoot me, you know, on a couch.
00:06:51Well, Robin, the suspects are moving too quickly from one hiding place to another.
00:06:55But investigators say the public is helping, including an Uber driver who picked up at least one of the fugitives and then tipped off investigators.
00:07:04Robin, hopefully the public will continue to help. All right.
00:07:07Thank you. We're going to go overseas now to the new Israeli strikes in Gaza as the humanitarian crisis there grows.
00:07:14Our chief foreign correspondent Ian Pannel is tracking the latest for us.
00:07:18Good morning, Ian. Yeah, good morning, Robin.
00:07:19Israel's now under massive pressure from its allies over its escalating bombing inside Gaza, but in particular, the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian crisis there.
00:07:29The U.N. warning that as many as 14,000 babies could die in the next 48 hours.
00:07:34Israel blocking all food and medicines now for nearly three months, saying it's trying to pressure Hamas to release hostages, including, of course, the four Americans believed to be dead.
00:07:43But now Canada, Britain and France condemning Israel's war and President Trump also acknowledging people in Gaza are starving.
00:07:51Under pressure, Israel is now allowing some aid in, but the U.N. says none of it has been distributed yet.
00:07:57The situation, though, on the children's wards in Gaza's beleaguered hospitals are grim, with many newborn infants severely underweight.
00:08:04And as talks in Qatar to reach another ceasefire, they appear to be going nowhere.
00:08:10There are fears that Israel's about to launch another major land offensive, which will only make the situation even worse.
00:08:16Michael? Yeah, make it much worse there, Ian.
00:08:18Thank you for bringing that to us.
00:08:20And now we're going to turn to the latest deportation battle for the Trump administration.
00:08:23A federal judge is demanding answers about whether migrants were deported to South Sudan without due process, violating one of his orders.
00:08:30Our senior national correspondent, Terry Moran, has the story for us. Good morning, Terry.
00:08:35Good morning, Michael.
00:08:37This morning, the conflict between the Trump administration and the federal courts just got worse.
00:08:41This time, a federal judge in Boston is threatening criminal sanctions against administration personnel and others for deporting migrants without due process to South Sudan, a nation on the brink of civil war.
00:08:52Overnight, a federal judge in Boston demanded answers from the Trump administration about whether the government has deported migrants to South Sudan in violation of immigration law.
00:09:03Lawyers representing a group of migrants say that at least two of them, one from Myanmar, the other from Vietnam, have been told they would be sent to the war-torn East African country without having had an opportunity required by law to contest their removal on the basis of a fear that their lives or freedom could be threatened there.
00:09:21According to the New York Times, Judge Brian Murphy said sending the migrants to South Sudan would likely violate an order he issued last month that directed the administration not to remove individuals to any other country beyond the two they are allowed to designate in immigration proceedings without giving them at least 15 days to challenge their removals.
00:09:41An attorney for the Justice Department says the migrant from Myanmar has been returned to that country, but he is declining to share any information about the other individual.
00:09:49And when asked by the judge where the plane is, the DOJ lawyer responded, I'm told that information is classified, and I'm told that the final destination is also classified.
00:10:00Judge Murphy is now warning that those involved in the deportations who were aware of his previous order, quote, including potentially the pilots, could face criminal sanctions, according to the New York Times.
00:10:11Jonathan Ryan, one of the attorneys representing the migrant from Myanmar, was at Tuesday's hearing.
00:10:16This judge was very specific in ordering the government not to relinquish custody of any individual who was being brought to a third country.
00:10:26This showdown is the latest stemming from the administration's aggressive deportation tactics, deporting hundreds of Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador in March.
00:10:34We are actively searching for other countries to take people from third countries. The further away from America, the better, so they can't come back across the border.
00:10:42The judge in Boston has now ordered the administration to keep custody of any of those migrants who have already been deported to South Sudan, so that they can be returned to the U.S. if he decides this operation was unlawful.
00:10:54George.
00:10:55Terry Moran, thanks for bringing us the latest now on President Trump's budget bill.
00:10:58Well, the Republicans still divided on the mix of tax cuts and spending cuts.
00:11:02Chief White House correspondent Mary Bruce has the latest. Good morning, Mary.
00:11:04George, good morning. Well, after a marathon session that lasted throughout the night, House Republicans have finally advanced the president's bill.
00:11:12It does now head to the House floor for a full vote. That could happen as soon as today, but this fight is far from over.
00:11:17The president this morning trying to convince those Republican holdouts to fall in line.
00:11:21Overnight on Capitol Hill, a marathon effort to advance the president's economic agenda.
00:11:26This is an historic moment. We believe it's a generational opportunity to reclaim the American promise, to renew the American spirit, and restore America's greatness.
00:11:36If Republicans are so proud of what is in this bill, then why are you trying to ram it through in the dead of night?
00:11:42The package of tax cuts and immigration spending now officially called the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
00:11:48Still far from a done deal. The president facing holdouts in his own party.
00:11:51I think we're going to get everything we want, and I think we're going to have a great victory.
00:11:57On the Hill yesterday, Trump personally pressuring Republicans to get behind the bill, which would extend the 2017 Trump tax cuts, lift the federal income tax on tips and overtime work,
00:12:08provide $50 billion to resume construction of Trump's border wall, and slash federal spending by more than $1.5 trillion, including cuts to Medicaid,
00:12:17which would leave an estimated 8 million Americans without health insurance over a decade.
00:12:23But for several hardline Republicans, it doesn't go far enough. They're demanding even steeper cuts.
00:12:28Behind closed doors, sources tell us the president warned Republicans don't expletive with Medicaid.
00:12:34Trump telling Republicans to get on board or risk a primary challenge, warning that anyone who won't fall in line, quote, wouldn't be a Republican much longer.
00:12:43Anybody that didn't support it as a Republican, I would consider to be a fool.
00:12:49But several Republicans still not sold.
00:12:52Where are you on this bill?
00:12:54I'm leaning maybe. I liked what he said about the Medicaid.
00:12:57Did the president change your vote, sir?
00:12:59He did a great job.
00:13:01Did he change your vote?
00:13:03He did a great job.
00:13:04Now, with a narrow margin in the House, Speaker Johnson can only afford to lose three votes.
00:13:08And even if he does ultimately get this through the House, the bill still faces a real uphill battle over in the Senate, where the legislation is expected to face major changes.
00:13:16The bottom line here, George, this morning, there is still a long road ahead.
00:13:19There is. And yesterday, Mary, the president also announced his intention to pursue a missile defense system.
00:13:24Yeah, George, look, we know that the president has long praised Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system.
00:13:28It's exactly what he wants to create here, what he's calling the Golden Dome missile defense system.
00:13:34He's unveiling plans for this ambitious project, predicting he can get it done by the end of his term.
00:13:39The president has said that this was his suggestion, not the commander's.
00:13:43But he says they are now on board with this.
00:13:45He's predicting it will cost billions.
00:13:47But the Congressional Budget Office says it could cost more than half a trillion.
00:13:50And, of course, Congress would have to approve all of that.
00:13:52OK, Mary Bruce, thanks very much. Robin.
00:13:54And, George, now to celebrating the life of one of television's most beloved stars, George Wendt,
00:14:00who walked into Cheers and everyone always knew his name.
00:14:04Lara is here with a look at the life and career of the man who played Norm.
00:14:08Yeah, he sure did. And in real life, he was the uncle of Jason Sudeikis.
00:14:13But long before Ted Lasso, Wendt won the Hearts of America,
00:14:17playing beer-loving barfly Norm Peterson for all 11 seasons on Cheers.
00:14:24Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name.
00:14:30From the moment he set foot in America's favorite bar,
00:14:33everyone not only knew his name, they were delighted that he came.
00:14:39Afternoon, everybody.
00:14:41For 11 seasons on the top-rated sitcom Cheers, George Wendt's Norm Peterson
00:14:47hunkered down in the same spot every single Thursday night.
00:14:51Nice to meet you. What do you do, Norm?
00:14:54I sit there.
00:14:56Wanting nothing more than a beer and his buddies.
00:15:00Some people spend their whole lives in a bar.
00:15:02Just yesterday, some guy sat right here next to me for 11 hours.
00:15:06The role would earn Wendt six consecutive Emmy nominations
00:15:11for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
00:15:14Hey, Mr. Peterson, what do you say to a cold one?
00:15:17See you later, beer. I'll be at Cheers.
00:15:19He would go on to lend that well-honed barfly persona
00:15:23to the Chicago Superfans on SNL.
00:15:30Becoming a pop culture staple in the process.
00:15:33I don't believe it. This is so cool.
00:15:39Wendt sat down with Good Morning America and our Charlie Gibson
00:15:43at the height of the show's popularity.
00:15:45I did a great deal of preparation for that role.
00:15:48A lifetime.
00:15:51I did put on 75 pounds for the role,
00:15:54much like Robert De Niro did for Raging Bull.
00:15:56You have to make these sacrifices.
00:15:58And probably learn to drink a little beer.
00:16:00George Wendt was born on the South Side of Chicago.
00:16:03Graduating from Rockhurst College,
00:16:05he went on to join the Second City Improv Group.
00:16:08Then, one day, his agent called to say
00:16:11he should audition for a part on a show
00:16:13where he would only have one word.
00:16:15And that word was beer.
00:16:16And that show, with its 117 Emmy nominations
00:16:21and 28 wins, would change not only his life,
00:16:24but also TV forever.
00:16:2793 million people were glued to their TVs
00:16:30when Norm helped Sam close down the bar
00:16:33for the very last time.
00:16:35You know what I think the most important thing in life is?
00:16:38It's love.
00:16:40You want to know what I love?
00:16:42Beer, Norm?
00:16:43Yeah, that was a quick one.
00:16:47You know, Sammy, I love that stool.
00:16:50In a statement, Ted Danson said,
00:16:52I am devastated to hear that Georgie is no longer with us.
00:16:56It's going to take me a long time to get used to this.
00:16:59I love you, Georgie.
00:17:00I love you, Georgie.
00:17:12His family says George went passed away peacefully in his sleep.
00:17:16He was 76 years old,
00:17:18and he was married to the same woman for 46 of them,
00:17:21his wife Bernadette, who he met at Second City in Chicago.
00:17:24She was actually the voice of Vera, Norm's wife, on Cheers.
00:17:27Never seen, but mentioned often by Norm,
00:17:30who knew he was probably in trouble for spending so much time
00:17:33saddling up at the bar with his pals.
00:17:35We'll have more tributes to George coming up, guys.
00:17:38That was great.
00:17:40I didn't know about the Jason Sudeikis thing,
00:17:42but once you mention it, you see it in his face.
00:17:44You see the resemblance.
00:17:46When he did DeBeers, Ted Lasso, we saw it.
00:17:48Yeah, wonderful actor.
00:17:50He sure was.
00:17:52Thank you, Lara.
00:17:54Coming up, Matt Gutman has an exclusive first look
00:17:55at a series on Sherry Pepini,
00:17:57speaking for the first time about her kidnapping hoax.
00:17:59Hey, Matt.
00:18:01Hey, George.
00:18:03And despite confessing that her 2016 kidnapping was a hoax,
00:18:05supermom Sherry Pepini doubling down,
00:18:07insisting she was kidnapped.
00:18:09And coming up, I'll tell you who she's pointing the finger at now.
00:18:12All right. Thank you.
00:18:14Plus, the Memorial Day travel rush
00:18:16as one of the nation's busiest airports faces new trouble.
00:18:18But the Points guy, Brian Kelly,
00:18:20he's also here with how to land the biggest savings.
00:18:22The Larry O'Brien championship trophy is in the house.
00:18:25Yeah, we're going to tell you about the NBA concert finals
00:18:27when we come back.
00:18:29♪ Because it feels so mystical, magical, oh baby
00:18:34♪ Because once you know, once you know
00:18:38♪ My love is so magical
00:18:40Back here on GMA, yes, Benson Boone
00:18:42singing us into Wednesday with his single,
00:18:44Mystical Magical.
00:18:46And this morning, Spotify reveals their top picks
00:18:48for 2025 song of the summer.
00:18:50Did he make the cut?
00:18:52Laird's going to break it down.
00:18:54Some of the top tracks ahead.
00:18:56I think I know.
00:18:58I think I'm pretty sure he's on the list.
00:19:00Yeah, pretty safe bet.
00:19:02Okay, but, you know, we want to get right
00:19:04to the Memorial Day travel rush.
00:19:06It's getting underway.
00:19:08A record number of Americans are expected to travel
00:19:10over the long holiday weekend.
00:19:12Our Janae Norman is watching the roads.
00:19:14But first, let's go to Trevor Ault at LAX
00:19:16with what flyers can expect.
00:19:18Good morning, Michael.
00:19:20And we are now in this Memorial Day travel rush
00:19:22beginning this morning.
00:19:24There's 49,000 flights scheduled across the country today.
00:19:26This United plane here is going to take off
00:19:28for Hawaii later this morning.
00:19:30And all of this travel, of course,
00:19:32is happening in the midst of what have been
00:19:34some headaches, particularly at Newark Airport
00:19:36outside New York City.
00:19:38This week, they had another ATC outage.
00:19:40They've had staffing shortages, construction,
00:19:42all of it contributing to some pretty significant
00:19:44flight delays.
00:19:46So the FAA has now ordered Newark Airport
00:19:48to substantially its flight schedule.
00:19:50The goal is to try to free up some airspace
00:19:52and hopefully make that schedule more reliable,
00:19:54although that is now raising some questions
00:19:56as to what the ripple effect could be
00:19:58for the schedules at airports all over the country.
00:20:00And that's really important because for the next
00:20:02several days, it is going to be very busy.
00:20:04AAA is predicting more than 3.6 million passengers
00:20:07flying for the Memorial Day weekend.
00:20:09That's a 12 percent increase from pre-pandemic levels.
00:20:12Tomorrow could be the busiest day.
00:20:1454,000 flights scheduled nationwide.
00:20:16United Airlines by themselves says
00:20:18for this Memorial Day weekend,
00:20:20they are expecting one of their planes
00:20:22to take off every 20 seconds,
00:20:24carrying 4 million total passengers,
00:20:27which is more than 300,000 more than they had traveled
00:20:30last Memorial Day weekend.
00:20:32The summer travel season starts now, George.
00:20:34Okay, Trevor, thanks.
00:20:36That's the air.
00:20:38Now let's go to the roads.
00:20:40Janay Norman at a gas station here in New York.
00:20:42Hey, Janay.
00:20:44Hey, George.
00:20:46AAA is expecting it to be
00:20:48a record-breaking weekend on the roads
00:20:50with an estimated 39.4 million Americans
00:20:52expected to travel by car this weekend.
00:20:55That is the highest number since AAA
00:20:57began keeping track back in 2000
00:20:59and a 4 percent increase since last year.
00:21:02As is typical on these holiday weekends,
00:21:04AAA says mornings are the best time
00:21:06to hit the roads to avoid traffic.
00:21:08Afternoons are expected to be much more congested.
00:21:10Across the board, from Thursday to Monday,
00:21:12experts recommend getting on the road
00:21:14before 2 p.m.
00:21:16and perhaps even earlier,
00:21:18closer to 11 a.m. if possible
00:21:20to really try to get a head start.
00:21:22And good news with gas prices.
00:21:24This is expected to be the cheapest
00:21:26Memorial Day weekend for gas prices
00:21:28that we've seen in two decades
00:21:30when adjusted for inflation.
00:21:32Soon the average cost for a gallon of gas
00:21:34could drop below three bucks.
00:21:36Right now it's hovering just about
00:21:38$3.17, $3.18 a gallon, guys.
00:21:40Yeah, that is great news.
00:21:42Okay, Janay, thanks so much.
00:21:44We're going to bring in the points guy,
00:21:46when it comes to airfare.
00:21:48We've got deals.
00:21:50All the prices are going down.
00:21:52I mean, airfares, car rentals, hotels.
00:21:54What's the trend here?
00:21:56Yeah, so gas prices are really good,
00:21:58so it's going to be a record-setting
00:22:00holiday travel weekend,
00:22:02but that's mostly due to more road travelers.
00:22:04In the skies, I have not seen this many deals
00:22:06since the peak days of the pandemic.
00:22:08American Airlines is running a fair sale
00:22:10of the slowest 5,000 miles a ticket
00:22:12for peak August and September travel.
00:22:14So that's really rare to start
00:22:16running with discounts.
00:22:18And even for paid fairs,
00:22:20here's a key tip.
00:22:22Try to fly on Wednesdays and Saturdays
00:22:24this summer.
00:22:26I love a Saturday return, by the way.
00:22:28Give yourself that extra day to acclimate
00:22:30because you're going to get delayed on a Sunday
00:22:32and you're going to undo all of that
00:22:34good juju from your vacation.
00:22:36But we're seeing really good fares,
00:22:38sub-$300.
00:22:40There's a new airport in Tulum.
00:22:42So if you're used to going to Cancun or Cabo,
00:22:44try out Tulum.
00:22:46And then when we travel,
00:22:48we're seeing $275 to Costa Rica.
00:22:50And there are all these gorgeous new resorts
00:22:52that have opened up in the last year.
00:22:54So lots of good deals out there.
00:22:56And you mentioned the cheapest days to fly.
00:22:58But are those the best deals we're seeing
00:23:00or you got more?
00:23:02Oh, no.
00:23:04I mean, there's even Europe this summer.
00:23:06And remember, the U.S. dollar is still really strong.
00:23:08I was seeing peak summer dates this year,
00:23:10$500 to $600 to go to Ireland and London.
00:23:13And, you know, some of those
00:23:14are on the low-cost carriers.
00:23:16But let me remind you,
00:23:18even the full-fire carriers,
00:23:20the Deltas and Americans,
00:23:22they've raised their fees on bags, too.
00:23:24So there's great deals out there.
00:23:26But this might be the summer to go to Europe
00:23:28because every last several years,
00:23:30Europe travel just kept going up and up and up.
00:23:32I've talked to a lot of travel advisors.
00:23:34And even on the hotel front,
00:23:36hotel prices are coming down.
00:23:38And a lot of hotels are offering extra perks.
00:23:40So when you're looking at the price of a hotel,
00:23:42don't just look at the room rate,
00:23:44especially at resorts,
00:23:46because sometimes there's all those added fees.
00:23:48But the government,
00:23:50if you've been searching for hotels this week,
00:23:52last week the government junk-few
00:23:54new legislation went into place,
00:23:56meaning when you search for hotels and Airbnbs,
00:23:59the total price will display.
00:24:01So at first it can seem like sticker shock,
00:24:03like, what the heck?
00:24:05Everything's more expensive.
00:24:07But it's actually just to show you
00:24:09the total price of hotels,
00:24:11which makes it easier to compare and contrast.
00:24:13How about cruises?
00:24:15Cruises, you know, cruising is up.
00:24:17Alaska cruises this year are the big trend.
00:24:19Celebrity cruises has a 20% off,
00:24:21but that's more towards fall booking.
00:24:23But here's my thing with cruises.
00:24:25You can still get great deals,
00:24:27but make cruise travel agents
00:24:29compete for your business.
00:24:31There's a website, cruisecompete.com,
00:24:33and you can put in the cruise you want to go on,
00:24:35and they can bid on your business.
00:24:37So once again, the price of the cruise
00:24:39they can compete on,
00:24:40but some of these travel advisors
00:24:42can, you know, add in extra perks,
00:24:44free drink packages.
00:24:46So make them work for your business.
00:24:48What's that website again?
00:24:50Cruisecompete.com.
00:24:52Well, no one's competing with you
00:24:54when it comes to giving us a better deal
00:24:56than what we're talking about.
00:24:58Thank you, Brian.
00:25:00And Sherry Papini,
00:25:02a California mom who pleaded guilty
00:25:04to faking her 2016 kidnapping,
00:25:06is now speaking in her first interview.
00:25:08Chief National Correspondent Matt Gutmann
00:25:10insists she is not the master manipulator
00:25:12who tricked the world.
00:25:14She insists there's an entirely different side
00:25:16of the kidnapping hoax
00:25:18that nobody knew about,
00:25:20so she doesn't quite come clean.
00:25:22Instead, dishing the dirt on the person
00:25:24she claims is really responsible.
00:25:26Hello.
00:25:28I'm Sherry Papini.
00:25:30Nice to finally meet you.
00:25:32This morning, that exclusive first look
00:25:34at Sherry Papini speaking out
00:25:36for the first time.
00:25:38The Sherry Papini that's out there,
00:25:40she's not me.
00:25:42She's not real.
00:25:44It's just this version of me
00:25:46that has been created
00:25:48to fit the narrative
00:25:50for the media's version of what happened.
00:25:52In the I.D. series,
00:25:54Sherry Papini caught in the lie
00:25:56the so-called supermom sharing
00:25:58another version of that infamous
00:26:002016 kidnapping hoax
00:26:02that captivated the country.
00:26:04The story that the world thinks they know
00:26:06is that I am
00:26:08a master manipulator
00:26:10who has fooled everyone.
00:26:12That's my magic wand.
00:26:17Sorry.
00:26:19I'm going to do ridiculous things
00:26:21because some of this is ridiculous.
00:26:25In November 2016,
00:26:27Papini seemed to vanish without a trace
00:26:29while out for a jog.
00:26:31Her then-husband, Keith,
00:26:33in law enforcement leading a massive search.
00:26:35And 22 days after she vanished,
00:26:37Sherry Papini reappeared
00:26:38on the side of the road,
00:26:40shackled, bruised, and branded.
00:26:42She claimed she'd been abducted
00:26:44by two Hispanic women.
00:26:46It's a lie she maintained for six years,
00:26:48but it fell apart
00:26:50when DNA evidence led authorities
00:26:52to this man, James Reyes,
00:26:54a former boyfriend of Papini's
00:26:56who said she stayed with him
00:26:58for those 22 days.
00:27:00Reyes telling investigators
00:27:02he didn't know about her kidnapping hoax
00:27:04and that Sherry told him
00:27:06she just wanted to get away
00:27:08from him in need asking for help.
00:27:10In April of 2022,
00:27:12Papini pleading guilty
00:27:14to lying to federal investigators
00:27:16about her disappearance.
00:27:18She signed a plea deal
00:27:20saying she knowingly planned
00:27:22and participated in her own hoax kidnapping.
00:27:24Now Papini changing her story yet again,
00:27:26claiming she really was abducted
00:27:28and assaulted by James Reyes.
00:27:30There was no master plan.
00:27:32There was no hoax kidnapping.
00:27:34There was a cover-up of what happened.
00:27:36And I participated in the cover-up.
00:27:38Reyes had previously told investigators
00:27:40that Papini caused her own injuries
00:27:42and that at her request,
00:27:44he branded her with a wood-burning tool.
00:27:47Investigators say he passed a polygraph test
00:27:49and was duped by Papini.
00:27:51You're a convicted liar.
00:27:53So tell me why we should believe you now.
00:27:57Haven't you ever lied?
00:28:00Have you ever lied
00:28:02in your history of existence?
00:28:04And then has that lie
00:28:08been blown up,
00:28:10been broadcasted
00:28:13around the world?
00:28:16It's so much more complex
00:28:18than just pointing the finger
00:28:20and saying you're a liar.
00:28:23And I wish,
00:28:28I wish more than anything
00:28:30I could have been more truthful.
00:28:32Reyes has never been charged with a crime.
00:28:35ABC News tried to reach out to Reyes
00:28:37but didn't get a response.
00:28:39Local authorities also declining
00:28:41to comment on Papini's new allegations.
00:28:43The Sherry I met,
00:28:45and I think the Sherry viewers
00:28:47are going to see,
00:28:49is a very different version.
00:28:51She's been through therapy.
00:28:53She's been through prison.
00:28:55She's hit rock bottom.
00:28:57She doesn't have a lot to lose.
00:28:59And we really put her through it.
00:29:01Both Keith and Sherry
00:29:03have dueling docuseries out
00:29:05telling their sides of the story.
00:29:07And in the background of all of this
00:29:09is this brutal custody battle
00:29:11between Sherry and Keith.
00:29:13After her conviction,
00:29:15Keith was granted full custody
00:29:17of their two kids.
00:29:19Now Sherry's petitioning the courts
00:29:21for more visitation.
00:29:23But as Keith says,
00:29:25the biggest victims in all of this
00:29:27are their two children.
00:29:28Now players can participate
00:29:30in flag football at the 2028 Olympics.
00:29:32Lara's back with the story.
00:29:34You're robbing the commercial break.
00:29:36You're giving us your flag football moves.
00:29:38It's all about speed and juking, right?
00:29:40Yeah.
00:29:42You'll see it done much better
00:29:44at the Olympics.
00:29:46Good morning to you all.
00:29:48So we've seen NFL players
00:29:50compete at the Olympics,
00:29:52sometimes in track and field,
00:29:54but never on the football field.
00:29:56But that is about to change.
00:29:58It's an opportunity for their players
00:30:00to represent Team USA
00:30:02for the first time.
00:30:04It's truly the next step
00:30:06in making NFL football
00:30:08and football a global sport.
00:30:10For our players,
00:30:12we think it's a tremendous opportunity
00:30:14for them to represent their country,
00:30:16to compete for a gold medal,
00:30:18which is the pinnacle of global sports.
00:30:20The owners approving a resolution
00:30:22allowing one player from each NFL team
00:30:24to play for their country.
00:30:26When flag football comes
00:30:28to the Olympics for the first time
00:30:30in Los Angeles, 2028.
00:30:32The chances of playing
00:30:34in the Olympics
00:30:36and getting a gold medal
00:30:38is a dream.
00:30:40Minnesota Vikings players
00:30:42Justin Jefferson and Brian Asamoah
00:30:44have been waiting for this moment.
00:30:46You have the opportunity
00:30:48to represent your country
00:30:50playing flag football
00:30:52and the excitement, the joy,
00:30:54and the appreciation.
00:30:56While tackle football
00:30:58is a new field for women
00:31:00as well as men.
00:31:02For the LA Olympics,
00:31:04there will be 10 players per team
00:31:06in both the men and women's
00:31:08flag football events.
00:31:10The NFL believes
00:31:12highlighting flag football
00:31:14on an international stage
00:31:16will do for football
00:31:18what 1992's Olympic NBA dream team
00:31:20did for basketball.
00:31:22That's what they're hoping
00:31:24and there is a professional
00:31:26men's flag football league.
00:31:28When flag players get priority,
00:31:30all of that needs to be worked out, guys.
00:31:32Need to be the best players
00:31:34to get on the field.
00:31:36There you go.
00:31:38Simple.
00:31:40Yeah, 10 players,
00:31:42a lot of competition.
00:31:44You're hired.
00:31:48Good morning, Americans.
00:31:50It's 8 a.m.
00:31:52Trail of destruction overnight.
00:31:54Look at the debris.
00:31:56At least 11 tornadoes
00:31:58and a postpartum medical emergency
00:32:00after the birth of her son.
00:32:02What she said about the complication
00:32:04and what she's revealing
00:32:06about Justin Bieber.
00:32:08Sometimes you want to go
00:32:10where everybody knows your name.
00:32:13Everybody knew his name.
00:32:15Norm!
00:32:17Norm!
00:32:19This morning we celebrate
00:32:21the life and legacy of George Wendt,
00:32:23the beloved Norm from Cheers,
00:32:25how his co-stars from across the years
00:32:26are remembering him,
00:32:28along with a whole new generation of fans.
00:32:31Thunder, thunder.
00:32:33The thunder booming.
00:32:35Caruso, three-pointer.
00:32:37The big prize on the line
00:32:39is here in Times Square.
00:32:41You know his name.
00:32:43Larry, thanks for coming.
00:32:45It's so nice to finally meet you.
00:32:47Who will defy gravity and take it home?
00:32:49Thunder, feel the thunder.
00:32:51And Lilo and Stitch are back.
00:32:53The live action movie
00:32:55is about to zoom into theaters
00:32:57and young star Maya Kaloha is here,
00:33:01telling us about taking on the beloved role.
00:33:04Sometimes family isn't perfect.
00:33:07That doesn't mean they aren't good.
00:33:09As we say...
00:33:11Good morning, America!
00:33:18Live from Times Square,
00:33:20it's Wednesday,
00:33:21good morning, America.
00:33:23Good morning, America.
00:33:25How can you not laugh?
00:33:27I love it.
00:33:29It's a Lilo and Stitch takeover.
00:33:31Stitch has been creating mayhem
00:33:33here in Times Square.
00:33:35But we can't wait to chat
00:33:37with his young co-star Maya Kaloha,
00:33:39who plays Lilo.
00:33:41It's going to be fun.
00:33:43Adorable.
00:33:45Also here this morning,
00:33:47Robin Arzon.
00:33:49She is bringing us a new series
00:33:51of breaking news.
00:33:53She is.
00:33:55This morning, she's going to break down
00:33:57what new moms should keep in mind
00:33:59when it comes to movement.
00:34:01First, look at the top stories of Breaking 8.
00:34:03We start with another round
00:34:05of severe weather overnight.
00:34:07At least 11 tornadoes reported in four states.
00:34:09Ginger has the latest.
00:34:11Good morning, Ginger.
00:34:13Hey, good morning, George.
00:34:15One of those tornadoes right there
00:34:17in Athens, Alabama.
00:34:19Some of the condensation
00:34:21that has seen people killed
00:34:23in London, Kentucky,
00:34:25has been rated an EF4
00:34:27with winds up to 170 miles per hour.
00:34:29Eastern Kentucky telling us
00:34:31that that is the deadliest tornado
00:34:33on record there.
00:34:35Unfortunately, we still have this system.
00:34:37The good news is,
00:34:39is the tornado part is dying a little.
00:34:41Eastern North Carolina
00:34:43has a little pocket of chance today
00:34:45in southwestern Pennsylvania
00:34:47into West Virginia.
00:34:49Watch for the tornadoes there.
00:34:51Especially from New York to the north.
00:34:53You can see it there.
00:34:55It ended up in Connecticut,
00:34:57Rhode Island, Massachusetts.
00:34:59It's not just the rain,
00:35:01it's the wind, Robin,
00:35:03that I really think could start impacting
00:35:05some of the flights and definitely the roads.
00:35:0730 to 50 mile per hour gusts.
00:35:09It leaves us with somewhere
00:35:11between one and three inches.
00:35:13We do have a few flood watches
00:35:15near Pittsburgh as well.
00:35:17That could really impact travel.
00:35:19Okay, Ginger, thank you.
00:35:21That's all the company said.
00:35:23Good morning, Eva.
00:35:25Good morning, Robin.
00:35:27Sales at Target are down.
00:35:29The retail giant releasing

00:35:33seeing a pretty sizable dip,
00:35:35$23.8 billion compared to $24.5 billion
00:35:37for the same time last year.
00:35:39The CEO calling this
00:35:41a highly challenging environment
00:35:43saying it's not satisfied
00:35:45with recent performance,
00:35:47announcing it's made leadership changes
00:35:49and created a new acceleration office
00:35:51for the projected,
00:35:53saying customers just aren't shopping
00:35:55as much for nonessential,
00:35:57citing backlash for ending
00:35:59diversity initiatives and uncertainty
00:36:01over those tariffs.
00:36:03But they didn't give details
00:36:05on price increases because of tariffs,
00:36:07at least for now,
00:36:09instead saying it would continue
00:36:11to make adjustments to pricing.
00:36:13Meanwhile, other companies
00:36:15recently announcing more positive numbers.
00:36:17Walmart and Home Depot both reported
00:36:19steady sales, maintaining their
00:36:21sales at its stores because of tariffs.
00:36:23Michael?
00:36:25It's inevitable.
00:36:27All right, thank you so much for that, Eva.
00:36:29Going to turn now to the dash cam video
00:36:31capturing a dump truck
00:36:33plowing into a home in New Jersey.
00:36:35The vehicle reportedly traveling
00:36:37around 50 miles per hour
00:36:39that left the roadway
00:36:41and struck a telephone pole
00:36:43before slamming into the house.
00:36:45The owner of the truck company
00:36:47said the driver had a medical emergency
00:36:49before the crash.
00:36:51Cassie Ventura's mother
00:36:53took the stand yesterday.
00:36:55His new testimony is about
00:36:57to begin this morning.
00:36:59Chief Investigative Correspondent
00:37:01Aaron Katurski at the courthouse.
00:37:03Good morning, Aaron.
00:37:05Good morning, George.
00:37:07The jury could hear from
00:37:09Grammy-winning rapper Kid Cudi,
00:37:11real name Scott Muscati,
00:37:13as soon as this week.
00:37:15He briefly dated Cassie Ventura
00:37:17at the end of 2011,
00:37:19and she testified that
00:37:21Gina Ventura testified
00:37:23made her physically sick.
00:37:25The message read aloud at open court
00:37:27said Combs is going to release
00:37:29two explicit sex tapes of me
00:37:31and hurt me and Scott Muscati physically.
00:37:33Gina Ventura testified
00:37:35I was scared for my daughter's safety.
00:37:37She wired Combs $20,000
00:37:39after she said he demanded it
00:37:41to recoup money he had spent on her.
00:37:43Eventually, that money was sent back.
00:37:45Ventura said she took
00:37:47these photos of her daughter
00:37:49after Cassie told her mom
00:37:51she was bruised,
00:37:53and I wanted to make sure
00:37:55that we memorialized it.
00:37:57Prosecutors allege the violence
00:37:59gave Combs coercive power
00:38:01over Ventura that he used
00:38:03to force her into sex acts
00:38:05with male escorts.
00:38:07He denied that.
00:38:09Court resumes with a federal agent
00:38:11back on the witness stand
00:38:13showing the jury items
00:38:15that he said were seized
00:38:17from Combs' Miami Beach home,
00:38:19including two AR-15 assault-style
00:38:21baby oil lubricant
00:38:23and seven-inch platform heels.
00:38:25George?
00:38:27A lot of details there,
00:38:29and okay, thanks very much, Michael.
00:38:31Yeah, we're going to turn now
00:38:33to the NBA playoffs,
00:38:35the Thunder winning Game 1
00:38:37against the Timberwolves,
00:38:39while the Knicks and Pacers
00:38:41get ready for the big game tonight.
00:38:43Will Reeve is here
00:38:45with a little bit more
00:38:47on the playoffs.
00:38:49He got a little friend with you.
00:38:51He's a big champion
00:38:53in the regular season,
00:38:55and they showed why last night.
00:38:57It was a thorough dismantling
00:38:59of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
00:39:01The Thunder just overwhelming.
00:39:03MBB candidate Shae Gildress-Alexander
00:39:05scoring 31 points,
00:39:07the whole team chipping in
00:39:09on offense and defense.
00:39:11The Timberwolves have a superstar too
00:39:13in Anthony Edwards.
00:39:15He did have an injury scare
00:39:17with a tweaked ankle.
00:39:19He came back.
00:39:21In New York City is Game 1
00:39:23of the Eastern Conference Finals.
00:39:25The Knicks hosting the Indiana Pacers.
00:39:27It's a rematch of last year's
00:39:29second round, which the Pacers
00:39:31won in seven games.
00:39:33This is a classic NBA rivalry too.
00:39:35Between 1993 and 2000,
00:39:37the teams met in the playoffs
00:39:39six times, each team winning
00:39:41three series.
00:39:43Robin knows what's going on.
00:39:45There's Spike Lee and Reggie Miller,
00:39:47one of the all-time NBA rivalries.
00:39:49Yeah, that's a classic move.
00:39:51I've said it a whole bunch of times
00:39:53because Reggie Miller is on the broadcast.
00:39:55As far as the players on the court,
00:39:57on the floor, now the Pacers are led
00:39:59by Tyrese Halliburton and a really
00:40:01solid cast of supporting characters.
00:40:03The Knicks have Mr. Clutch,
00:40:05Jalen Brunson, and a great team as well.
00:40:07Should be a great series.
00:40:09You know, no matter what,
00:40:11Knicks fans will be outside.
00:40:13They will be in the streets
00:40:15making their voices heard.
00:40:17And the four teams remaining
00:40:19are playing for this,
00:40:21so I just go to the Knicks.
00:40:23Larry would have said,
00:40:25thank you for having me.
00:40:27We need you to voice it.
00:40:29This will be the seventh straight year
00:40:31with a new champion in the NBA.
00:40:33Wow.
00:40:35You buried the lead there.
00:40:37Yeah, well, I've got to keep you interested.
00:40:39There's your stat as I get out of here.
00:40:41There you go.
00:40:43All right, Larry, let's go.
00:40:45Hey, you can't touch Larry.
00:40:47Don't touch Larry.
00:40:49I don't have the gloves.
00:40:51She's having her frightening experience

00:41:33Ah!
00:41:35He's here.
00:41:37They told me they were going to do this
00:41:39and it still terrified me.

00:42:15Motherhood and parenthood really
00:42:17is full of the unexpected.
00:42:19But Haley Bieber says
00:42:21it's the hardest thing she's ever done.
00:42:23This morning, Haley Bieber
00:42:25opening up about a postpartum complication
00:42:27telling Vogue,
00:42:29I was bleeding really badly
00:42:31and people die
00:42:33and the thought crushes your mind.
00:42:35Bieber experiencing a postpartum hemorrhage
00:42:37after the birth of her son, Jack Blue,
00:42:39with husband Justin Bieber
00:42:41saying the complication was
00:42:43a little bit scary,
00:42:45but I trust my doctor with my life
00:42:47and so I had peace
00:42:49that I knew she would never let anything
00:42:51happen to me.
00:42:53Postpartum hemorrhage is categorized
00:42:55by excessive blood loss
00:42:57after the birth of a baby
00:42:59and happens in approximately
00:43:01one to five percent of women.
00:43:03The 28-year-old,
00:43:05who also suffered a mini stroke in 2022,
00:43:07recovering from the hemorrhage
00:43:09with help from doctors.
00:43:11Reflecting on the birth experience,
00:43:13telling the magazine,
00:43:15giving birth was the hardest thing
00:43:17I've ever done.
00:43:19Bieber says postpartum
00:43:21and in the midst of it,
00:43:23a flurry of speculation from the public
00:43:25on her relationship with her husband
00:43:27and the singer's mental health.
00:43:29Better make up your mind,
00:43:31what do you mean?
00:43:33If you think about what's happening
00:43:35to your body postpartum,
00:43:37that's a lot to go through
00:43:39and then you combine that
00:43:41with every tabloid you see
00:43:43and all of these people
00:43:45you've never met online
00:43:47saying that your husband hates you.
00:43:49It's an extraordinary circumstance,
00:43:51to be surrounding you
00:43:53at such a vulnerable moment
00:43:55and I think she's really rooted herself
00:43:57in her family, in her friends,
00:43:59in her relationship, in her baby
00:44:01and that's been a great source of strength.
00:44:03Haley telling Vogue
00:44:05eight-month-old Jack Blue is her priority
00:44:07and that her husband is an amazing dad.
00:44:10She called the last nine months
00:44:12since baby Jack Blue was born
00:44:14the most sensitive time she has ever gone through
00:44:16saying she has been learning
00:44:18this whole new version of herself as a mom
00:44:19and she started doing that
00:44:21while seeing all those divorce rumors on the internet.
00:44:23She called it a crazy life to live, guys.
00:44:25She just hugged that little precious baby boy.
00:44:27Yeah.
00:44:29Yeah, all right, Rihanna, thank you.

00:44:45The bar in Boston, the show is based
00:44:47in placing a beer on the bar
00:44:49and we're going to take a look at it as well.
00:45:03So sweet.

00:45:07by his friends and co-stars
00:45:09John Ratzenberger
00:45:11who played Norm's sidekick male carrier
00:45:13Cliff Clavin.
00:45:15Saying in a statement,
00:45:17George brought Norm to life
00:45:19and made it look easy.
00:45:21That was his gift.

00:45:25who played the sarcastic waitress Carla
00:45:27writes, George was the sweetest,
00:45:29kindest man I ever met.

00:45:33Wendt was last seen on stage
00:45:35less than a year ago at the Emmys
00:45:37where that iconic bar was recreated
00:45:39for a cast reunion.
00:45:41George Wendt was 76 years old.
00:45:43He really touched a lot of folks.
00:45:45He did.

00:46:19are the reason that I'm able to exist
00:46:21in a room like this.
00:46:23And so being here tonight
00:46:25I think about all the women
00:46:27that paved the way for me
00:46:29and I hope that I can open up
00:46:31the door for others too.

00:49:44So when you did get it who
00:49:45auditioned for you?
00:49:47It was my dad's mom and dad
00:49:51because they were super close
00:49:53to our house.
00:49:55I just had to tell them.
00:49:57But I pranked them that I act
00:49:59like oh I didn't get it.

00:50:57Oh she's excited.
00:50:58You did that soda gun scene all
00:50:59in one take.
00:51:01You know how hard was that to do
00:51:02in one take.
00:51:04It was so hard to do it in one
00:51:05take because you know when you
00:51:07get what you get what like you
00:51:09if you want to get dry you need
00:51:10to get dried off.
00:51:11Yeah I get in your clothes
00:51:12again.
00:51:13Stuff like that.
00:51:14That's what I have to do at the
00:51:15beach.
00:51:16So when I did that scene.
00:51:19You're right.
00:51:20That actually was a first take
00:51:21that I've ever done in the
00:51:22whole entire movie.
00:51:24So if I like messed up or
00:51:25anything I would get wet.
00:51:28And you didn't want to do that
00:51:29more.
00:51:30No I didn't.
00:51:31No I didn't.
00:51:32I don't blame you.
00:51:33Thanks.
00:51:34You know what.
00:51:35Since this movie since you
00:51:36filmed this movie you became a
00:51:37big sister.
00:51:39Congratulations.
00:51:40How's that working out.
00:51:41Amazing.
00:51:43It's like I was taking care of
00:51:44such and I'm taking care of
00:51:45another stitch.
00:51:46Oh it's not me.
00:51:48That's you and your little
00:51:49brother.
00:51:50He's two years old now.
00:51:51He is.
00:51:52He's taken all your stuff.
00:51:53He's in the middle of all your
00:51:54things.
00:51:55Yeah.
00:51:56You don't need.
00:51:57Well it's worth it right.
00:51:58It's worth it.
00:51:59And you know you got a lot of
00:52:00fans here this morning.
00:52:02And Elvis had the question for
00:52:03you.
00:52:05Elvis where you at.
00:52:07Stand up my friend.
00:52:08What you got Elvis.
00:52:09What's your question.
00:52:10Do you have a favorite stitch
00:52:11moment from the movie.
00:52:13Yes I do.
00:52:15It.
00:52:17Whoa.
00:52:18I don't know why I said yes I
00:52:19do.
00:52:20I have a lot of such moments.
00:52:22I like it when he
00:52:24crashes on Earth
00:52:26and then because that's
00:52:28when I usually say
00:52:30my wish
00:52:32to him.
00:52:33I like it when he says
00:52:35not like
00:52:38you can do the voice.
00:52:39So I could tell you right now
00:52:40when we tell you my you're
00:52:41amazing.
00:52:43You're fine.
00:52:44You know what.
00:52:45And all of you all you kids
00:52:46are going to get your own
00:52:47stitch by the way.
00:52:48So we got you covered.
00:52:50Everybody at home.
00:52:51Lilo and Stitch opens in
00:52:52theaters nationwide on Friday.
00:52:54Check out my girl Maya.
00:52:55OK.
00:52:56Coming up Kristen Davis.
00:52:58Welcome back to GMA
00:53:00live from Times Square.
00:53:03We're back now on GMA.
00:53:05And just like that the sex in
00:53:06the city spin off is back for
00:53:08season three.
00:53:09Yes.
00:53:10And Kristen Davis who plays
00:53:11Charlotte is here to talk all
00:53:12about it.
00:53:17All right.
00:53:18Very serious question.
00:53:19OK.
00:53:20What's going to surprise fans
00:53:21about Charlotte this season.
00:53:23Well they're always coming up
00:53:24with new ways to challenge
00:53:25Charlotte.
00:53:26And definitely we have we have
00:53:27some challenges.
00:53:29You know Charlotte's got two
00:53:30kids and they're older and
00:53:31they're always throwing her
00:53:32curveballs.
00:53:33So that goes on.
00:53:34And then later in the season
00:53:35there's kind of a bit of a
00:53:36shocking.
00:53:37Challenge.
00:53:38And you know we have to see
00:53:39Charlotte find a new way to
00:53:40handle it.
00:53:41And she does of course.
00:53:42You know we're trying to read
00:53:43the tea leaves right now.
00:53:45I know.
00:53:47I know.
00:53:48I know.
00:53:49You'll see.
00:53:50You'll see.
00:53:51But she you know Charlotte's
00:53:52always going to do her best and
00:53:53she's always going to try to
00:53:54take care of everyone.
00:53:55So.
00:53:57She's a great character.
00:53:58I'm very lucky.
00:53:59Can we take a little bit of a
00:54:00look.
00:54:01Of course.
00:54:02Yeah.
00:54:03Yeah.
00:54:04The woman.
00:54:05Was unhinged.
00:54:06I mean.
00:54:07She was practically foaming at
00:54:08the mouth.
00:54:09People are crazy now.
00:54:10They're crazy.
00:54:11I saw two vegans get into
00:54:12fisticuffs on the smoothie
00:54:13line at Whole Foods.
00:54:14I mean.
00:54:15How dare she.
00:54:16You can't just accuse an
00:54:17innocent dog of assault.
00:54:19I'm sorry.
00:54:20That never happened.
00:54:21Mom.
00:54:22Believe women.
00:54:23Please don't give me that now.
00:54:25I need to see her proof.
00:54:26Where is.
00:54:27Her.
00:54:28Proof.
00:54:29Could the dog walker have
00:54:30gone rogue and let him off
00:54:31leash.
00:54:32I mean.
00:54:33All we really know about the
00:54:34guy is that he wears cargo
00:54:35shorts and is wildly
00:54:36overpaid.
00:54:37The entire cast.
00:54:38You are so blessed.
00:54:40We really are.
00:54:41So very, very fortunate.
00:54:42Okay.
00:54:43So Charlotte.
00:54:44The character plays.
00:54:45Your kids are teenagers.
00:54:46Now in real life.
00:54:47Your children are a little
00:54:48bit younger.
00:54:49Right.
00:54:50You do have a 13 year old.
00:54:51But does playing a teen mom
00:54:52kind of prep you.
00:54:53You know.
00:54:54In some ways.
00:54:55In some ways.
00:54:56I mean.
00:54:57It's a lot less responsibility
00:54:58to be playing a mom than
00:54:59to be a mom.
00:55:00Right.
00:55:01But the thing that I like
00:55:02about Charlotte as a mom is
00:55:03that she kind of has
00:55:04expectations and her kids
00:55:05definitely shift those
00:55:06expectations.
00:55:07And I think that is very
00:55:08true for life.
00:55:09You really never know what
00:55:10your kids are going to be
00:55:11into.
00:55:12And you have to kind of.
00:55:13You know.
00:55:14Like expand.
00:55:15Like my youngest is very
00:55:16into basketball.
00:55:17So I'm.
00:55:18You know.
00:55:19I'm a basketball mom now.
00:55:20And I'm always trying to get
00:55:21advice from the basketball
00:55:22dad.
00:55:23It's like.
00:55:24What should I be having him
00:55:25work on in practice.
00:55:26You know.
00:55:27Like.
00:55:28You know.
00:55:29I'm trying to learn.
00:55:30And I get that from Charlotte.
00:55:31She's always trying to figure
00:55:32out like.
00:55:33How can I be a better mom
00:55:34to these children.
00:55:35You know.
00:55:36Sarah Jessica was here
00:55:37the other day.
00:55:38She said you brought your
00:55:39mom skills to set.
00:55:40You're the in-house physician.
00:55:41I know.
00:55:42I know.
00:55:43I told her.
00:55:44I'm full for my first week
00:55:45of new patients.
00:55:46I was there yesterday.
00:55:47I said thank you so much
00:55:48for the recognition.
00:55:49What she means is.
00:55:50I'm one of those kids.
00:55:51People who's allergic
00:55:52to everything.
00:55:53Right.
00:55:54So I study ingredients.
00:55:55I'm one of those.
00:55:56So everyone.
00:55:57You know.
00:55:58You're on set.
00:55:59You know.
00:56:00Makeup.
00:56:01All the stuff.
00:56:02So everyone's like.
00:56:03What do you use?
00:56:04What do you like?
00:56:05So we're always like.
00:56:06Oh.
00:56:07Let's study this.
00:56:08Which thing has the
00:56:09good ingredients.
00:56:10You know.
00:56:11Which thing has the
00:56:12irritating ingredients.
00:56:13So it's like that.
00:56:14I'm like a pharmacy.
00:56:15It's all bonding.
00:56:16Right.
00:56:17It is.
00:56:18It's like that around here.
00:56:19It is.
00:56:20You can relate.
00:56:21Congratulations on your podcast.
00:56:23We all love the name.
00:56:24Are you a Charlotte?
00:56:25Yes.
00:56:26Brilliant.
00:56:28We're going to talk about
00:56:29your dream guest for the
00:56:30night.
00:56:31Can you tell us about the
00:56:32dream guest that you just
00:56:33got?
00:56:34I got my dream guest which
00:56:35is Megan Thee Stallion.
00:56:36Wow.
00:56:37I know.
00:56:38Very exciting.
00:56:39We had met her at an event
00:56:40in the fall when we were
00:56:41working.
00:56:42And she's just so fun.
00:56:43And I love her so much.
00:56:44And she has such strong
00:56:45opinions about the show.
00:56:47She recently discovered
00:56:48Sex and the City.
00:56:49Isn't that funny?
00:56:50That's funny.
00:56:51She said like.
00:56:52No one told me.
00:56:53Definitely.
00:56:54She said I had no idea
00:56:55how good it was.
00:56:56I was like.
00:56:57I'm living it again with
00:56:58my daughter, Kate, who's
00:56:5920.
00:57:00Really?
00:57:01And she is obsessed and
00:57:02wants to dissect each
00:57:03episode.
00:57:04I love it.
00:57:05Whole Aiden versus
00:57:06big questions.
00:57:07Yes.
00:57:08This is a big question.
00:57:09So it's really fun.
00:57:10And the show just has
00:57:11life.
00:57:12It is fun to watch our
00:57:13daughters grow up on it
00:57:14again.
00:57:15I love it.
00:57:16It's amazing.
00:57:17Yeah.
00:57:18Well, congrats on
00:57:19getting your dream guest.
00:57:21It is really fun.
00:57:22The big question.
00:57:23Is she a Charlotte?
00:57:24I'm guessing no.
00:57:25No.
00:57:27I don't know people who
00:57:28identify which was ever
00:57:29character.
00:57:30You're going to have no
00:57:31shortage of guests.
00:57:32You're going to want to
00:57:33be on your podcast.
00:57:35It's been really fun so
00:57:36far.
00:57:37Yeah.
00:57:38Well, it's fun to have
00:57:39you here.
00:57:40You're welcome to come
00:57:41back here and be a guest
00:57:42anytime you want.
00:57:44I love it.
00:57:46Thank you, Kristen.
00:57:47Great to see you.
00:57:48Yeah.
00:57:49And just like that.
00:57:50I love that title.
00:57:51I just love to hear it.
00:57:52I know.
00:57:53It's easy.
00:57:54Just rolled off the tongue.
00:57:55Yep.
00:57:56I'm going to let you
00:57:57check it out.
00:57:58Our new series, Strong
00:57:59Mama, about the challenges
00:58:00new moms face.
00:58:01And this morning, the
00:58:02focus, we're going to
00:58:03first focus on the
00:58:04physical changes.
00:58:06It's the moment so many
00:58:07families dream of.
00:58:09Getting that positive
00:58:10pregnancy test.
00:58:11It's crazy how something
00:58:13can bring you so many
00:58:14emotions.
00:58:15Like you're excited,
00:58:16you're nervous, you're
00:58:17scared, but then you're
00:58:18just so happy.
00:58:20Ketsaili Vidal and her
00:58:21husband Matthew welcome
00:58:23baby girl Maylene in
00:58:25October.
00:58:27During her pregnancy,
00:58:28Ketsaili stayed active,
00:58:30maintaining her routine
00:58:32of Zumba, walking, and
00:58:34strength training.
00:58:35But after undergoing a
00:58:36C-section in her
00:58:37recovery, she says she
00:58:39was confronted with an
00:58:40unfamiliar body.
00:58:41It was really tough to
00:58:42not be able to do the
00:58:44simplest things.
00:58:45It made me feel sad,
00:58:46you know?
00:58:47Like, wow, I can't do
00:58:48this.
00:58:49Am I ever going to be
00:58:50able to?
00:58:51New research finds that
00:58:52just two hours of moderate
00:58:53exercise per week can
00:58:54significantly improve
00:58:56the health and well-being
00:58:57of new mothers,
00:58:59emphasizing that any
00:59:00movement counts during
00:59:01the demanding
00:59:02postpartum period.
00:59:03For the 32-year-old, it
00:59:05was all about giving
00:59:06herself grace and trying
00:59:08again.
00:59:09When I got emotional
00:59:10that I couldn't do
00:59:11something, it was like,
00:59:13OK, I feel the sadness.
00:59:15It's done.
00:59:16I can't change it.
00:59:17How can I now move
00:59:18forward?
00:59:19Today, nearly seven
00:59:20months postpartum, she
00:59:22is still building back
00:59:23her strength, modifying
00:59:25her workouts, and taking
00:59:26it day by day.
00:59:28I'm proud of myself and
00:59:29I'm happy.
00:59:30My goal is not really to
00:59:32get to where I was before
00:59:33pregnancy.
00:59:34It's just to be kind of
00:59:35the best version of
00:59:37myself every single day.
00:59:40I loved hearing her say
00:59:41I'm proud of myself.
00:59:43Where are my manners?
00:59:44Robin Arzon, our
00:59:46fabulous contributor, is
00:59:47here.
00:59:48You have shared so much.
00:59:49You have shared so much
00:59:50on your social pages
00:59:52going through pregnancy
00:59:53and that movement.
00:59:54You have said this over
00:59:55and over again.
00:59:56It's so key.
00:59:58Take people through the
00:59:59steps.
01:00:00You find out you are
01:00:01pregnant.
01:00:02What do you do?
01:00:03First of all,
01:00:04congratulations.
01:00:05Yes.
01:00:06You are going to be
01:00:07adjusting to a new
01:00:08normal.
01:00:09It's really important.
01:00:10If you are a mover, if
01:00:11you consider yourself an
01:00:12athlete, keep moving,
01:00:13mama to be, because that
01:00:14is so good for you.
01:00:15It's so good for baby.
01:00:16It's great for your
01:00:17mental health.
01:00:18It really is going to
01:00:19aid you in the evolution
01:00:20of pregnancy.
01:00:22It's of course important
01:00:23to consult with your
01:00:24doctor and focus on
01:00:25things that you can do
01:00:26rather than what you
01:00:27can't.
01:00:28I feel like a lot of the
01:00:29conversation is often
01:00:30maybe fear-based around
01:00:31don't do this, don't do
01:00:32that.
01:00:33But what can we do?
01:00:34A lot of movement.
01:00:35For example, you would
01:00:36swap crunches for deep
01:00:37breathing or a bird dog.
01:00:38I, for example, continue
01:00:39to teach at Peloton
01:00:40walking, running, lifting
01:00:41weights.
01:00:42Lifting weights is
01:00:43actually incredibly
01:00:44important and I highly
01:00:45recommend it to do it
01:00:46every day.
01:00:47It's so good for your
01:00:48mental health.
01:00:49It's incredibly important
01:00:50and I highly recommend
01:00:51it to do it, you know,
01:00:52from someone like myself
01:00:53who is pre- and
01:00:54post-natal trained.
01:00:55But that's going to
01:00:56prepare you for the
01:00:57physical demands of
01:00:58pregnancy, childbirth,
01:00:59and of course, once
01:01:00baby is here.
01:01:01Oh, yeah.
01:01:02That's so true.
01:01:03And it's like if you
01:01:04know your body and you
01:01:05know what you can and
01:01:06can't do and you have
01:01:07to modify a little bit
01:01:08there.
01:01:09So, you've had the
01:01:10baby.
01:01:11There's a lot going on.
01:01:12There is a lot going on
01:01:13with your body.
01:01:14You got a new person
01:01:15in the house and all
01:01:16that.
01:01:17So, how do you adjust
01:01:18with your work out there?
01:01:19Yeah.
01:01:20You've just birthed a
01:01:21roommate or two.
01:01:22Yeah.
01:01:23Right.
01:01:24So, it's important to
01:01:25ease in.
01:01:26Of course, we want to
01:01:27acknowledge that every
01:01:28pregnancy and every
01:01:29childbirth experience is
01:01:30different.
01:01:31Every child is different.
01:01:32So, meet yourself where
01:01:33you are with grit, with
01:01:34grace, but you're easing
01:01:35in.
01:01:36Body weight, movements,
01:01:37count, walking is amazing.
01:01:38Yeah.
01:01:39Getting out in some
01:01:40fresh air.
01:01:41Put the baby in a
01:01:42carrier.
01:01:43Get some steps.
01:01:44I think especially for
01:01:45folks who were very,
01:01:46were athletic during
01:01:47that time period can be
01:01:48very confronting.
01:01:49At least it was for me.
01:01:50I felt extremely
01:01:51vulnerable and I felt
01:01:52weak.
01:01:53Yeah.
01:01:54And that brought me to
01:01:55a place where I just
01:01:56said, consistency over
01:01:57intensity.
01:01:58What are the little
01:01:59bite-sized nap time
01:02:00hustles, I called them.
01:02:01Yeah.
01:02:02Five, ten minutes of
01:02:03movement, body weight.
01:02:04You're really aiming to
01:02:05reconnect with your core
01:02:06and your pelvic floor.
01:02:07Right.
01:02:08Which, of course, are
01:02:09impacted by pregnancy.
01:02:10And then you're focusing
01:02:11on rebuilding your
01:02:12posterior chain.
01:02:13I find that glutes and
01:02:14back are two areas that
01:02:15are neglected for
01:02:16new moms.
01:02:17And those are the
01:02:18activities of daily
01:02:19living.
01:02:20You're over the
01:02:21bathtub, you're picking
01:02:22up baby, you're picking
01:02:23up toys, you've got a
01:02:24stroller in your hand.
01:02:25These are demanding.
01:02:26And then, of course,
01:02:27eventually, reigniting
01:02:28the flame.
01:02:29You will feel at home
01:02:30in your body again,
01:02:31mama.
01:02:32But it's little by little
01:02:33amounting to a lot.
01:02:34I know, and I'm glad
01:02:35that you said that those
01:02:36little things that you're
01:02:37doing around the house
01:02:38can incorporate.
01:02:39Because you think, you
01:02:40know, I've got to be in
01:02:41the gym.
01:02:42No.
01:02:43You can do things right
01:02:44there in your own home.
01:02:45What about my self-talk?
01:02:46I find that movement
01:02:47aids in metabolizing and
01:02:48dealing with the big
01:02:49feelings and the hormonal
01:02:50shifts in all areas of
01:02:51life, but especially
01:02:52postpartum.
01:02:53And that self-talk was a
01:02:54little bit kinder.
01:02:55I tried to speak to
01:02:56myself like I would a
01:02:57friend.
01:02:58And movement really
01:02:59helped give me that grace
01:03:00and those moments where
01:03:01you want to feel like
01:03:02yourself again.
01:03:03And it's okay to want
01:03:04that for yourself amidst
01:03:05the joy of a new baby.
01:03:06Sure, sure.
01:03:07And, you know, mama,
01:03:08you know, I've been
01:03:09talking about this
01:03:10for a long time.
01:03:11I've been talking
01:03:12about this for a long
01:03:13time.
01:03:14And, you know, mamas,
01:03:15when they've got that
01:03:16little newborn, they're
01:03:17like, I don't have the
01:03:18time.
01:03:19How are you able to find
01:03:20the time for yourself?
01:03:21You're carving out
01:03:225, 10 minutes, right?
01:03:23Okay.
01:03:24So it's releasing this
01:03:25idea that it needs to be
01:03:26a 45, 60-minute workout,
01:03:27leaving you thrashed on
01:03:28the floor to count,
01:03:29right?
01:03:30So can you carve,
01:03:31claw back 5, 10 minutes?
01:03:32Can you incorporate baby
01:03:33in some of the movements,
01:03:34like going outside for
01:03:35those walks?
01:03:36Maybe they're in the
01:03:37stroller taking a nap,
01:03:38and you do some wall
01:03:39push-ups or you do some
01:03:40dips on a park bench.
01:03:41And so, you know,
01:03:42it's all about
01:03:43the physical.
01:03:44It's all about the
01:03:45physical.
01:03:46It's all about the
01:03:47physical.
01:03:48It's all about the
01:03:49physical.
01:03:50It's all about the
01:03:51physical.
01:03:52It's all about the
01:03:53physical.
01:03:54It's all about the
01:03:55physical.
01:03:56It's all about the
01:03:57physical.
01:03:58It's all about the
01:03:59physical.
01:04:00It's all about the
01:04:01physical.
01:04:02It's all about the
01:04:03physical.
01:04:04It's all about the
01:04:05physical.
01:04:06It's all about the
01:04:07physical.
01:04:08It's all about the
01:04:09physical.
01:04:10It's all about the
01:04:11physical.
01:04:12And it's all about the
01:04:13physical.
01:04:14It's all about the
01:04:15physical.
01:04:16It's all about the
01:04:17physical.
01:04:18And it's all about the
01:04:19physical.
01:04:20There's no saying that
01:04:21that's complete, so
01:04:22it's all about the
01:04:23physical.
01:04:24It's all about the
01:04:25physical and it's all
01:04:26about the physical.
01:04:27All right, now we're
01:04:28going to head over to
01:04:29line to see what
01:04:30outיךrarn broadcast
01:04:31are showing for the
01:04:32pandemic.
01:04:33Here's a little
01:04:34glimpse.
01:04:35Coming right up is
01:04:36our sketches from 2018.
01:04:37Students will have
01:04:38classes during the
01:04:39school year.
01:04:40Those classes are
01:04:41and they need a lot of review for the work that they learned the week before.
01:04:44You also want to take a look at if they avoid math games, or if they have no interest in
01:04:50learning activities in general.
01:04:51All those things tell us that, you know what, our kids may need a little help over the summer
01:04:55staying motivated and staying on top of the game.
01:04:57You want the summer to be fun.
01:04:58Yeah.
01:04:59You want the kids to have a summer, but how can you do that but still keep kids mentally
01:05:04alert?
01:05:05Look, I'm a huge fan of math workbooks, but as soon as my eight-year-old sees them, he
01:05:08goes hiding.
01:05:09It falls his eyes.
01:05:10He hates it.
01:05:11So you want to mix it in with a little bit of fun.
01:05:14You want to make the homework seem more like play.
01:05:16So for example, kids do lemonade stands, but they can actually do the math, right?
01:05:21And you want to read books together and discuss the characters.
01:05:25And you also want to do something like when you cook, double the recipe and have them
01:05:28figure out how that works.
01:05:29It's actually really fun.
01:05:30And even on road trips, you can have geography lessons or do storytelling about the places
01:05:35that you've been.
01:05:36So all of those are ways to teach your kids something and hide it.
01:05:39In a very organic way.
01:05:41Yes.
01:05:42Absolutely.
01:05:43The perennial question for all parents these days, how to deal with screens.
01:05:46Yeah.
01:05:47You know, you really want to, screens, there's going to be an uptick in the use of screens.
01:05:52That's the reality of it.
01:05:53But there's a way for us to shape their screen use during the summer.
01:05:57So number one, put some rules in place.
01:06:00You have to read a couple of chapters before you can have your screen.
01:06:03Or you have to play a board game with your brother.
01:06:07Or, you know, you may have to go and do some chores first or hang out outside.
01:06:10And what's most important, I love it when my kids say they're bored.
01:06:14You know, embrace the boredom.
01:06:16Great things come out of boredom.
01:06:17They read books.
01:06:18They build things.
01:06:19They play in the mud or the dirt or they climb things.
01:06:22And those are really important skills for our kids to build off of in the summer.
01:06:25Yeah.
01:06:26You have to learn to tolerate that.
01:06:27Erica, thanks so much.
01:06:28Thanks for coming in.
01:06:29Coming up, how to bring summer to your doorstep.
01:06:36All right.

01:08:05tech options.
01:08:06You can stay charged up.
01:08:08I love that the fan that goes around the back.
01:08:10We actually use that.

01:08:13Yes.
01:08:14I love it.
01:08:15You got to keep the hair flowing.
01:08:16And if you want to unplug, maybe you don't want to stay charged up and juiced in, you
01:08:18can disconnect with some of these excellent summer reading options.
01:08:20Okay.
01:08:21So great reading options as well.
01:08:22All right.
01:08:23So how about turning your backyard into a summertime bash?
01:08:26Okay.
01:08:27Yeah.
01:08:28So I'm obsessed with these chairs.
01:08:30May I?
01:08:31Please.
01:08:32Of course.
01:08:34May I also offer you a beverage or two?
01:08:35I love a sparkling seltzer as well.
01:08:37These are options.
01:08:38Also salty snacks too.
01:08:40And then you can throw everything in that super cute cooler.
