00:00Strengthening the nation's fiscal and financial position offers a new lease of life for public
00:07transportation that will benefit the people in the long term, says a transport consultant.
00:13One Agilwan-Hasan, founder of the transport think tank MyMobilityVision, said now is the
00:19right time to take bold steps by channeling targeted RON95 fuel subsidy savings into the
00:25public transportation sector and public mobility. According to a 2023 report by the Land Public
00:31Transport Agency, more than 70% of Malaysians still rely on private vehicles for their daily
00:38commutes. Meanwhile, transport expert Gary Fung also urged the continued enhancement of public
00:44transport usage to reduce congestion in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Johor Bahru, which
00:50would lower carbon emissions and promote a more sustainable low-carbon economy.
00:55Another transport expert, Rosalie Khan, stressed the need to improve public transport facilities
01:01in rural areas by using savings from subsidies.
