00:00All right, joining me right now is AccuWeather, long-range expert.
00:02You know who he is, the crystal ball meteorologist Joe Lumberg.
00:06You know, last week, Joe, we talked about how there was going to be a lot of wet weather from Texas toward Louisiana.
00:12The one thing that I think surprised us a little bit is how much rain we've been able to squeeze out this week across Florida and the Carolinas.
00:20Yeah, there's been more rain there than I think what we were thinking last week.
00:23It looked like it would stay pretty dry with very little getting there, but some has come in, and we're not done yet.
00:28I think that's part of the forecast going forward. We'll get to that in a second, but here's the rainfall that we've seen for the past week.
00:34And if you look at some of these amounts, say, are across portions of Louisiana and southern Mississippi, I mean, it's been inordinate and some flooding,
00:41but some of that, as you have mentioned, has worked its way into the southeast, into the portions of the Carolinas and into portions of Florida.
00:47That's good news because these areas in here, as we'll show you in a minute, have been under a pretty significant drought, particularly Florida.
00:54You're going to get some relief in that over the next five or six days.
00:57Here are the three things to know about this coming week. There it is, beneficial rains from Florida, Virginia.
01:02In fact, I would call these drought-denting downpours, but it's not going to eliminate the drought.
01:07There's a surge of heat from the Midwest to the northern plains. We're talking record highs, places getting into the 90s, and limited severe weather.
01:13It's not going to be nonexistent, but it will be limited in nature as we go through next week.
01:18You know, the weather pattern next week, Joe, somewhat similar to this week in that we have a split flow.
01:23We have a northern branch and a southern branch. We'll get to that in a second.
01:27The other interesting graphic here is the drought monitor.
01:30A lot of the west, plains, and even in the eastern U.S., still in at least some drought.
01:36Yeah, you look at these areas from south Texas, Bernie, up into the southwest deserts, and there's just been an utter lack of moisture.
01:43It's been interesting, too, because we've seen these upper-level low-pressure systems roll through California.
01:46It's not put an end to the rainy season just yet in places like Las Vegas and Los Angeles, but none of that moisture has worked its way through these areas, except for what happened early in the week here.
01:57That's the system that's brought tremendous rains across the southern tier states.
02:01Note here in the mid-Atlantic, some improvements in the drought across the Delmarva Peninsula and into southeast Virginia.
02:07Not so, though, for portions of the Shenandoah Valley up into southeastern Pennsylvania.
02:12You're getting some rain today, but that's going to be moving out.
02:14This is the area that we really need it.
02:16I think we're going to see some as we go through the weekend and early next week, and here's the reason why.
02:21You look at the jet stream flow for next week.
02:23You see a deep trough in here, which is going to bring another system through and some cool weather.
02:27That could be an igniter of some severe weather across the northern plains early to midweek.
02:31But out ahead of it, look at all this warmth.
02:33Temperature is well above average.
02:35This bend in here will work its way through the southern tier of states.
02:38The upper-level low that we're seeing at the beginning of the week in here, that's going to work its way with some beneficial rains for the southeast.
02:44Monday is the day for Florida.
02:46You're going to get some severe weather with that.
02:47As I said, drought-denting downpours, but then that moves away.
02:51Here's a look at that heat.
02:52We're talking temperatures 80s and 90s here for the second weekend in May and into the early part of next week.
02:58That's going to be spreading eastward, but be diluted in nature as we go into the middle and latter part of next week.
03:05All right, thanks, Joe.
03:05Good stuff.
03:06We have the heat in the north central United States and some much-needed rain in the Carolinas.
