Amazon: https://a.co/d/dWYF9YJ It is true that everyone has his or her own story of life to tell, but some have far more fascinating stories than others. Such a one is Engineer Victor Olusegun Orelaja who, although not born with a silver spoon in his mouth, was nevertheless not born poor and, in adulthood, treaded the path of life like a colossus.
Segun Orelaja never looked to anyone to prop him up in life; rather, he mapped out a path for the success he achieved. He worked hard to acquire sufficient education and was thorough in his field of engineering, judging from his own account, thereby proving to be worthy of emulation. He had his own share of sorrow, but disappointments did nothing but help bring to the fore his inner strength.
This autobiography is laced with the conviction of a man of many parts, unceasingly looking for new fields to conquer. In a sense, this author has a clear message for the chickenhearted and the weak-kneed.
I Did It My Way offers the reader the pleasure of tracing the footsteps of a sure-footed explorer.

00:00Hey guys, it's me, Yaya Diamond. What's up? I'm so very happy to be here today and I have an
00:21amazing author on the show. He has his book, I did it my way, but it's by Victor and I don't
00:27want to torture your name, Victor. I really don't and I want to make sure that we're actually saying
00:33it right. So how do you pronounce your name? Aurelaja. Aurelaja. Oh my gosh, that's so pretty.
00:41Thank you. Oh my gosh. So tell us about yourself. How did you know you were going to start writing
00:47or did you even know that you were going to become a writer at all? The two reasons why I wrote the
00:55book are that number one. I want to tell the world the story of a man who rose from grass
01:07to grass and also the way my immediate family reacted to my generosity towards them. First
01:23of all, I'd like to start from Victor Aurelaja who was born on Friday, July 9, 1948 in Lagos State
01:39of Nigeria and his father and his father was Josephine Adebori Aurelaja. Victor spent his childhood years
01:59time with his grandmother. His mother died when he was two years old. So when the mother died,
02:17he was taken to Odilemo in Western Nigeria to stay with the grandmother.
02:22He attended kindergarten school at Odilemo and later moved to Lagos to join his dad and started primary
02:39school, grade school in Agodjayi Primary School. He graduated from Agodjayi Primary School in
02:491962 and started high school at Mertoli Borset High School in 1963 to 1967. He graduated in 1967
03:08from high school and worked for one year in Lagos, Nigeria as a clerk. He later traveled to the United States
03:18United States of America where he settled at Chicago, Illinois. He attended Central YMCA Community College
03:30for two years from 1970 to 1972 and got an associate degree in science in 1972 before he traveled to normal
03:47Illinois Illinois in the United States and received that first in chemistry. He got his bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1974. As if that wasn't enough to be successful in life,
03:59he traveled to Oklahoma and attended University of Oklahoma and got his master's degree in chemical engineering summer of 1976. After graduating, he worked as a researcher and developer and
04:05engineer with selanese fiber industry for one year before returning home. When he got back home, he got a job, a teaching job for three months before he left for a more lucrative job with Chevron. He worked for Chevron. He worked for Chevron,
04:23from 1977 to 2003 for 25 years for 25 years for 25 years for Chevron. Victor Orelaja is married with four children.
04:47with four children he married his university of oklahoma friend
04:59and the children are the two singles they have two singles and one twin the two singles are
05:21and the twins are and that is the story of one of the reasons why i wrote the book the second
05:34reason was that when we settled in lagos my wife said she was going back to the united states
05:42i met her in the united states as i've said and she said she was going back to the united states
05:48i said fine and she said she wanted me to bring the children to come and join her in the united states
05:55i said that's good enough okay so she went and i was taking care of the four children in lagos nigeria
06:06when it was time when it was time for me to take the first two when i discovered that they've learned
06:13about the culture the african culture and the nigerian and yoruba culture i decided to take
06:20the first two to the united states to meet their mother i got passport for the two of them i got
06:28visa for the two of them and i got ticket for the two of them i also bought ticket for myself and i
06:36escorted the two of them to the united states i should have taken them to the airline office and asked
06:45them to drop them off with their mother in the u.s in durham north carolina but i didn't do that i escorted
06:55them to the u.s for because i was not comfortable with leaving them alone by themselves in the plane
07:08so then i when i got there i bought la i bought desktop for them for their homework and i traveled back to
07:21lagos to lagos to take care of the twins and also to fix my job at chevron
07:31then i was then it was time to take the twins to the united states and when i was taking the twins
07:43the twins don't need passport and visa because they are american citizens i only bought tickets for them
07:49i only bought tickets for them and i took them to the united states i escorted them to the united states
07:56just like i escorted their brothers and i see i see when i knew something sinister was going to happen
08:04when we were able to land at rally north carolina the weather was bad and we couldn't land in rally
08:13north carolina we were diverted to washington dc to land and the airline authorities were so good the airplane
08:23authorities were so good the the accommodators of the accommodated enough in an hotel in washington dc
08:32and they said the following day with the weather permission we will land in raleigh north carolina to
08:43travel to dora so the following when i got there i called their mother and told them what water i told
08:52that what happened that the weather was bad in rally and we couldn't land we had to be a diverted to washington dc
09:02so she was expecting us the following day so the following day weather permission we had a permit
09:11weather we landed in raleigh north carolina and everybody was happy and thank god for johnny masters
09:24then i left the whole family in the u.s and traveled back to lagos nigeria
09:33when i got to lagos nigeria i was sending money to them for their education
09:38and also the mother was helping out with some money so we were both spending money on their education
09:46yeah and but then what baffled me was that they said i abandoned them in the u.s how could i have
09:55abandoned them in the u.s when in the u.s they have all the amenities of life at their disposal they have
10:04constant electricity they have good roads they have
10:08water pipe bomb water and they have security while i was in nigeria i was providing everything for
10:18myself i was providing pipe bomb water through boho i was providing security through day and night
10:27security officer i was providing electricity through generator i was literally providing everything for
10:36myself and yet they were having every amenity at their disposal in the united states and they said i
10:43abandoned them how could i have abandoned them with all the amenities they had at their disposal and me
10:50living in lagos nigeria providing everything for myself no i did not abandon them and i wanted to tell
10:58i want to tell the whole world what actually happened so those are the two reasons why i wrote my autobiography
11:08wow wow so your life is just wow that is amazing so in the book what can we expect like i know you talk
11:20about your life and why you wrote the autobiography but what can we expect this is like a roller coaster going
11:26up and down and and you're in and out it was a roller coaster and thank god i survived yeah yeah
11:37definitely and what about your children how did that work out for you i sent money they all graduated
11:46they are doing fine in the united states and i'm glad to hear to know that and i'm also very glad to tell
11:53you that they are doing fine good good and your autobiography what is that like to have that out
12:01now with the true story of what really happened i feel very comfortable now that i've told the world
12:09what actually happened because they were telling the uh our families and friends that i abandoned them
12:17in the united states of america and i felt i needed to tell my own side of the story wow wow and so
12:27you could have done it so many different ways why did you do it in a book form like this i mean you could
12:36have um you know maybe told them or maybe wrote a letter or something but a book and i know why you wrote the
12:45book but why did you tell it like this is this something that you i know you said you want the
12:50world to know but more so like your family is this something that you want them to hold on to for the
12:57rest of their lives it's not just that i have a flair for writing i love to write so i felt the only way i could
13:08tell you not just them the whole world what happened was to write to put it in a book to write my
13:16autobiography and let them believe and let the whole world read my autobiography and they will know what
13:24actually happened i absolutely love that i love that and i love what you've done i love that you wrote the
13:31book i love that you put it in writing and that you used your talent to put it in writing so that you
13:37could tell not just your family but the whole world and to set the record straight what do you want
13:43people to get from this when they read the book you know like somebody outside of your family what do you
13:51want them to know about you by reading that book i want them to know that you don't have to be born
14:00with a silver spoon in your mouth to be successful in life all they need you is to work hard
14:11be a pace setter set your own pace do everything your own pace if you are the fast pace setter go at
14:20a fast pace if you are the slow one go at a slow pace you get there it might take some time but then go at
14:28your own pace and also do things your own way if you do all those things and you read my book success
