00:00Hi.
00:10You got any of these?
00:11Ooh.
00:12Will this let the case fit my cell phone?
00:14It's not from Radio Shack.
00:15Yes, it will.
00:16Perfect.
00:17What about a long-life battery?
00:18A car adapter?
00:19A cordless computer mouse?
00:20An AC adapter for this?
00:21What have you got?
00:22Why are the speakers two will have one?
00:23Whatever you've got, wherever you got it,
00:25Radio Shack's got over 10,000 accessories to help it work better.
00:29Got any connectors?
00:31Parts, too.
00:32Great!
00:33Radio Shack.
00:34You've got questions, we've got answers.
00:36And right now, get a great deal on a universal remote.
00:39When my allergies became a problem,
00:41I thought a prescription was the answer.
00:43Instead, my allergist recommends Dimetap.
00:45Said an allergy study showed its antihistamine
00:47is even more effective than Seldane,
00:49a leading prescription.
00:50Ask your doctor.
00:51Doctors say Dimetap for good reason.
00:54This is my office.
00:56My phone, my calendar, and where I was supposed to be 10 minutes ago.
01:01I need relief.
01:04Ah, my Lincoln Town Car.
01:07Just what the doctor ordered.
01:09Its soothing comfort goes to work immediately.
01:11Delivering a feeling of unsurpassed luxury and peace of mind.
01:17You know, I'm amazed a car like this is available without a prescription.
01:24Come on and do it.
01:26You know there's really nothing to it.
01:28It's a lift that you get.
01:30It's a rhythm in your step.
01:32When you taste the lemon lime, your world comes alive.
01:35Cause it's cool and it's wonderful.
01:37And it's totally fine.
01:39It's every nothing.
01:41It's an up thing.
01:43It's every nothing.
01:44Does it every time.
01:46It's every nothing.
01:48Yeah, it's an up thing.
01:49It's clear and it's wonderful.
01:51And it's lemon and lime.
01:53It's every nothing.
01:54Nocomis.
01:55Nocomis.
01:56Nocomis.
01:57Nocomis.

02:04The fragrance that speaks to a woman's soul.
02:09Can you believe those Potterfields?
02:11What do you mean?
02:12What?
02:13They went to Disney World.
02:14Again?
02:15Yeah, for that 25th anniversary.
02:16When are they gonna realize they're not kids anymore?
02:19I don't know what's gotten into them.
02:21Still whooping it up like a couple of teenagers.
02:23Running around like they don't have a care in the world.
02:25It's ridiculous.
02:26What if we all acted that way?
02:31Come celebrate Disney World's 25th anniversary.
02:34Call 1-407-W-Disney.
02:35Say, Mickey.
02:36And remember the magic.
02:40His world was a place of mystery.
02:43His home was all he had ever known.
02:46Set the sails!
02:47His voyage became the greatest epic adventure of all time.
02:53I want you to defeat the Trojans.
02:56To become immortal.
02:57A warrior who defied the gods.
02:59I come to Troy!
03:00To face the world's greatest wonders.
03:03Put in the sails!
03:05Strongest passion.
03:06Forget.
03:07You are home now.

34:22This is the news channel
34:24on NBC 15.
34:26Tonight,
34:26a Florida jury
34:27and a major verdict
34:28in the tobacco wars.
34:29Plus,
34:30people trying to save
34:31their lives.
34:32Dramatic video
34:33as a ferry boat
34:34goes under.
34:35But first,
34:35they're not satisfied.
34:37Tonight,
34:37it's a new fight
34:38for education standards
34:39and money.
34:40Our top story
34:41this May 5th.
34:42Good evening,
34:42everyone.
34:42I'm Natalie Tisdol.
34:4465,000 kids daily
34:46head into Mobile County Schools.
34:48Tonight,
34:48some 2,000 parents,
34:50teachers,
34:50and citizens
34:51meet to improve
34:52education standards
34:53for those thousands of kids.
34:55News Channel 15's
34:56Andy Gobeil reports
34:56some of those parents
34:58say improved education
34:59comes, in part,
35:00from improved funding.
35:02Andy.
35:02Natalie,
35:03a good majority
35:04of those who attended
35:05tonight's meeting
35:06say the school district
35:07has improved a great deal.
35:08But they say
35:09that is still not enough.
35:11And they are continuing
35:14to work at
35:16making sure
35:16that those improvements
35:17continue.
35:19At a meeting tonight
35:20in the Old Greater Gulf
35:22State Fairgrounds,
35:23people worked
35:24to get together
35:25and bring about
35:26improvements
35:26to the school district.
35:28A shooting
35:28in a local high school,
35:29concerns about
35:30school space,
35:31bringing the lieutenant
35:32governor to the county.
35:33Those are just
35:34two of the issues
35:34that the Mobile County
35:35School District
35:36have had to deal with
35:37over the past month.
35:41Tonight,
35:56thousands of parents
35:56meet to help out.
35:59I have a child
35:59in the public schools
36:01and I am a product
36:02of the public schools.
36:03Alma Cox is also
36:04a teacher in the Mobile
36:05County Schools.
36:06She joined about
36:072,000 others
36:08as a grassroots
36:09organization,
36:10Citizens for a
36:11Better Education,
36:12signed up members
36:13to help the county
36:14school district
36:14educate thousands
36:16of students.
36:17Caring what happens
36:18to them when they
36:18get there.
36:19And I think we can
36:20show that by giving
36:21them better buildings,
36:22better material.
36:23To that end,
36:24the group passed
36:24a resolution calling
36:25for a study of
36:26possible changes
36:27in the tax structure
36:28to better fund
36:29the county school district.
36:30Group organizers
36:31say the $13,000
36:32study project
36:34will be funded
36:35in part by
36:35the city of Mobile.
36:37One prominent
36:38county employee
36:39says he would back
36:40an improved education
36:41funding plan.
36:41I have before
36:42in the past
36:43and I can't see
36:43why I wouldn't.
36:44I don't see anything
36:45more critical
36:45to the future
36:47of this community
36:47than properly
36:49supported schools.
36:50And organizers
36:51say that support
36:51can be measured
36:52in more signatures
36:53and in more dollars.
36:57Now just what
36:58specifically can be done
36:59to improve education
37:01funding for the county
37:02is still undecided.
37:04The group says
37:04that's one of their
37:05major concerns.
37:06Natalie?
37:07Great Andy, thank you.
37:08Hundreds of Mobile
37:08County school teachers
37:09will get a pay raise
37:10next year.
37:11The district is raising
37:12teachers' salaries
37:13to meet state requirements.
37:15About half of the district's
37:164,000 teachers
37:17will get a pay hike
37:18of up to 5%.
37:19The increases affect
37:20non-tenured teachers
37:21and those who have
37:22graduate degrees.
37:23The state will fund
37:24most of the increases
37:25but Barton Academy
37:26estimates it will cost
37:27the district about
37:28two million dollars
37:29over two years.
37:32The money's going to
37:34have to come from somewhere
37:35and unless the state
37:36funds at 100%,
37:37then we're going to
37:40have to take money
37:40from something else,
37:41from some program
37:42or some other event
37:45to pay the increase.
37:48The salary increases
37:49will be phased in
37:50over two years
37:51beginning next fall.
37:53As a whole,
37:54the state of Alabama
37:54ranks poorly
37:55in caring for its children.
37:57That according
37:58to the Kids Count
37:59data book.
38:00The book put out today
38:01by the Annie E. Casey
38:02Foundation reports
38:03on the well-being
38:04of children around
38:05the country.
38:06It looks at factors
38:06like teenage pregnancy,
38:08literacy, graduation rates
38:09and mortality rates.
38:11Alabama ranks close
38:12to the bottom
38:13of the list at 46.
38:15Florida is one below
38:16at 47 and Mississippi
38:17comes in almost dead
38:18last at 49.
38:19And in case you're
38:20wondering,
38:20according to the
38:21Kids Count data book,
38:22Louisiana comes in last.
38:23New Hampshire
38:24is considered the best.
38:26A local man
38:27is hospitalized tonight
38:28after a bizarre accident
38:30traps him underneath
38:31a two-story building.
38:32It happened on
38:33North Lafayette Street
38:34this afternoon.
38:35A construction crew
38:36was renovating
38:36a two-story apartment
38:37when it collapsed.
38:39One worker was partially
38:40pinned underneath
38:41the structure.
38:42His co-workers
38:43were able to pull him
38:44out from underneath
38:44the rubble
38:45before paramedics arrived.
38:49It looks like
38:50on his injuries,
38:51he's got some
38:51lower back injuries,
38:54our left ankle
38:56that may be fractured
38:57as well.
38:58His vitals were good,
38:59which is always
39:00a good sign.
39:00The victim is listed
39:03in stable condition
39:04at USA Medical Center.
39:06Topping our look
39:07at national news,
39:08one of the Republic
39:08of Texas separatists
39:10is dead in a gun battle
39:12with Texas officials.
39:13He's one of two men
39:14who escaped the compound
39:15last week.
39:16Officials say
39:17he'd been shooting
39:17at search dogs
39:18and a police helicopter
39:19and was killed
39:20when officers returned fire.
39:22The other man
39:23is still at large tonight.
39:25Timothy McVeigh's sister
39:26returns to the witness stand
39:28in this morning
39:29testifying against him
39:30in the Oklahoma City
39:31bombing trial.
39:32Jennifer McVeigh
39:33says her brother
39:33hated the government
39:34and told her
39:35of transporting
39:36half a ton of explosives.
39:39Good news
39:40for the tobacco industry,
39:41bad news
39:42for the anti-tobacco interest.
39:44In a Florida courtroom,
39:44the issue was
39:45whether a tobacco company
39:47was responsible
39:47for the cancer death
39:49of a lifelong smoker.
39:51And the answer,
39:52as Mark Strassman reports,
39:53was key at a time
39:55when hundreds of individuals
39:56and two dozen states
39:57are going after
39:58the industry in court.
40:00I understand
40:01that you have reached
40:01a verdict in this case.
40:03It's a huge win
40:04for R.J. Reynolds
40:05and a timely one
40:06for Big Tobacco
40:07under fire.
40:08Was there negligence
40:09on the part
40:10of the defendant,
40:11R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company,
40:13which was a legal cause
40:14of the death
40:15of the decedent,
40:16Gene Conner?
40:17No.
40:18R.J. Reynolds
40:19held not negligent
40:20for producing
40:21an unreasonably dangerous product
40:22or for causing
40:24the death of Gene Conner.
40:26R.J. Reynolds
40:27R.J. Reynolds
40:28Okay.
