“Reminds me of initial days…” Nimrat Kaur reflects on acting journey in exclusive interview with ANI

Mumbai, May 8, 2025(ANI): In an exclusive interview with ANI, Indian actor Nimrat Kaur shared her journey of success and her visit at actor’s preparation school to learn acting.

00:12I started my first start at the theatre.

00:16At the morning, I got a phone and said,

00:30I saw it in my eyes,

00:32I almost shocked how it happened.

00:38I came to Mumbai in 2004.

00:41I thought it would be a lot of money.

00:45It would be a little bit of experience in the camera.

00:47I started with music videos.

00:49I did a lot of ad films.

00:52After that, I realized that now I need to learn acting.

01:04So, I then saw some plays,

01:09which were the Nirmata and Nirdeshak,

01:13I was very interested in working with them.

01:16I thought,

01:17that if I had done some work with them,

01:19I could learn something.

01:24I saw a lot of plays in Mumbai in the first time.

01:31Thespo is a youth theatre forum,

01:36where I had my first start in theatre.

01:44I got the Best Actress Award for that play.

01:48I had a Hindi play with Sunil Shanbagh,

01:53at the Prithvi Theatre Festival.

01:56I was the first part of these two plays.

01:59After that,

02:00I was made a series for 5-6 years.

02:02I got the opportunity to work with good people.

02:07I got the opportunity to work with Hindi and English.

02:10I played both in Hindi and English.

02:11Prithvi Theatre,

02:12NCP Experimental.

02:14I went to work with many places in India.

02:18Pune,

02:19Delhi,

02:20Bareilly,

02:21a small town,

02:23a big town,

02:24Bangalore.

02:25So,

02:26this was a training ground,

02:30what I can learn,

02:31is all in theatre.

02:35How did you get the lunchbox?

02:37Sir,

02:39I was doing some plays,

02:41when the lunchbox casting was going.

02:46who was the casting director of the film,

02:48she is no longer amongst us,

02:52they showed me some plays to Ritesh Batra.

02:57who I was doing a film with Peddlers,

03:03they showed me that.

03:04and somehow,

03:05you know,

03:06I feel like,

03:07that was probably a film,

03:08that was my part of it.

03:09And,

03:10I got it without auditioning for it.

03:13And,

03:14I mean,

03:15it's such a big gift for me,

03:28how did that happen?

03:29Yes sir, Cole actually has a series that has released on Geo Hotstar.

03:34There is a relationship between Raj Gharane's character, Rani Indrani, Rai Singh and Rajwade.

03:45He has a very strong role, very ups and downs.

03:49He has a strong relationship between Raj Gharane and his family and circumstances.

03:59His relationship with his little brother is an almost unhealthy, strange kind of obsessive love.

04:09He can't do anything wrong for him.

04:13In that journey, when you look at that character, there is a Rajasthani folk song.

04:20Because his mother passed away from his childhood, his siblings.

04:25What happens in that journey?

04:30When you realize that this big girl is almost a quasi-parent figure.

04:36For her little girl and her little brother.

04:40Especially his little brother, his eyes are pretty much.

04:43So, they listen to him as a Rajasthani folk song.

04:47This is a show of Ekta Kapoor.

04:50He has given me the opportunity to work in a very beautiful world.

04:58The director, Sahir Raza, heard me this folk song.

05:03And he said, you can sing this song.

05:06So, I said, I will try it.

05:08And that effort didn't happen.

05:10He kept it for the show.

05:12And it was good.

05:14In that climax, it was a very haunting scenario and haunting situation.

05:20And its effect is very strong.

05:24Because in childhood, the lady was listening to her brother.

05:27And when she was frustrated, the lady was listening to her brother.

05:30And when she came to the climax, the lady was listening to her mouth.

05:35And the scene that I would like to see her.

05:38So, until she came to the end, it became a haunting story.

05:46Where did you get your best compliments from her brother?

07:39I was coming for two hours.

07:42And if I have a stamina and I want it, then I would like to talk to them for 2-3 hours.

07:49Because I want my experiences and learnings that I have to learn from my difficulties.

07:57If I can share it with anyone, if I can help with one person or a student,

08:03then it's a success for me.

08:05And when I learned acting here, I learned the path of theatre.

08:10I wish that I also learned from an actor preparer in an institute.

08:16I felt so good.

08:17And I learned some of these things early on in my career,

08:21which I learned later in my career.

08:24And I learned trial and error in the work environment.

08:27So I think these kids are very lucky, these students are very lucky.

08:31That they are so good in the environment.

08:34And I heard that for a half an hour of play,

08:38they worked so hard and worked so hard.

08:41And the set also made themselves.

08:43Experientially, they give you so much confidence.

09:52My father was a man in forces and army.

09:58He has a very big impact on me in life.

10:02I've learned my mother's upbringing, my overall value system,

10:09and I've learned a lot about it.

10:19Where did you go?

10:22I went to Kumau.

10:23I went to Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary.

10:26I sent my Jannaddin there.

10:28I went to Jannaddin.

10:32I went with my parents and family.

10:35I felt that there is a sense of belonging in the mountains.

10:41You don't think anything about it.

10:44You only think about your next steps.

10:46That's the biggest therapy and rejuvenation for me.
