This country is facing difficult economic times and attorneys in his office will have to tighten their belts, so says newly appointed Attorney General John Jeremie.


After his swearing ceremony Jeremie said there are some practices at the AG's office that are not sitting well with him.

00:00I feel that Trinidad and Tobago is at a point now in its history, an inflection point, and that we are pretty close to the brink of disaster. That is my feeling.
00:17The AG's office, of course, is a rule of no office, and there are some things that have taken place which over the last weeks in particular, and even stretching out beyond that, over the last couple of months, which I'm very concerned about.
00:37I'm bothered about the fact that, as I said, I don't want to get into details this afternoon. I said you don't want to put an empty tea between myself and my colleagues, but the fact that a billion dollars is peed out at two years at a time when the rest of the society is suffering, that is something that causes me disquiet.
01:04I have practiced, I have had a civil practice, and I have practiced at the university where I see these. I think that some adjustments must be made in respect of that.
