People of London: Should older people re-take driving tests?

The question comes after a rise in road accidents.

00:00I'm not allowed to drive because I've got a medical condition and I think that's quite reasonable.

00:05I think it's difficult, like having autonomy is really important for older people,

00:10to lose their independence. You don't want people housebound, but you also don't want

00:13like dangerous drivers on the road. I would actually, yeah. I speak from a wee bit of

00:18experience in that my grandfather, who was 97 when he died a couple of years ago, he was from

00:23a period where he basically never needed to do a test. He just needed to have the money

00:28and willingness to get a car. So he got a car when he was in his 20s or 30s and

00:37that didn't require a test and he got a license just by filling a form in.

00:42I don't think having more regular testing when you go over a certain age is unreasonable.

00:49I don't know how regular it would have to be and I appreciate that older people may have

00:55different rates at which they might need to be retested.
