00:00The Movement for Social Justice says it is pleased to greet the Labour movement for the occasion of May Day 2025, celebrated on May 1st, adding that unity and solidarity is a must.
00:12The political party is congratulating the two trade unionists Ernesto Queza and Clyde Elder, who captured the Point Fortin and Le Bray seats from the PNM in the general election.
00:22The MSJ calls it an historic victory, noting that the last time that this was seen was in 1986 under the NAR, the National Alliance for Reconstruction.
00:34Against this backdrop, the MSJ states that the May Day can be celebrated by the Labour movement, as there is now a unique opportunity for the incoming UNC government to implement significant reforms to Labour legislation.
00:48The party says it should be done to restore free collective bargaining in the state and public sectors, leading to decent wage increases for workers who have been denied this for more than 10 years.
01:00The MSJ says there is no certainty that the Labour agenda will be pushed.
01:04It is calling on workers to remember that politics at times is about competing with conflicting interests for agendas they want prioritised.
