There were half a million shoplifting offences in the UK last year. What more do you think shops could do about this?

00:00I feel sorry for the shops because they've got guys on the security.

00:05You can only do so much.

00:07They're not paid to enforce the law.

00:09They can stop people.

00:11But I think the police haven't got the resources.

00:15So really you need proper more wardens maybe.

00:20Well, more could be done, but there's a but to it, you see,

00:23because things have gone up so much and people haven't got the money

00:27and they've got to feed the kids, haven't they?

00:28Maybe the law needs looking at and a change in the law

00:31which gives security guards a bit more power maybe

00:35to at least try and apprehend someone or keep them there.

00:41You can't just let people walk in with stuff and walk out.

00:44So there's got to be a solution to that somewhere, hasn't there?

00:46You've got to clamp down. You've got to punish people.

00:49I don't know how they're going to do it

00:50because you can't talk to them in prison because there's no room.

00:53And they know this, so they're just playing on you.

00:56But, you know, we all pay for it in the end.
