00:13You guys got so much snow, like, what, a week and a half ago?
00:16I mean, how'd that make you feel?
00:18Oh, I'm smiling. I'm good.
00:20Because, you know, coming from the Carolinas,
00:23like, we would get snow maybe once a year.
00:25Once every couple years, we'd get a good one.
00:26But, I mean, I'm thinking my young self would just be out there
00:29with some grocery bags tied around in his tennis shoes like Mama used to do.
00:34Yep.
00:34I'd be out in the yard now getting it on.
00:37Yeah, people don't understand that, Kevin.
00:39When you live where there's snow, you would take, like, bread bags
00:43and you'd put your feet in bread bags
00:45and then you'd put your shoes or your boots on over that
00:48so your feet wouldn't get wet.

00:56and that was your new sled.

01:18Well, you know what, Matt, it is great to see all the success
01:22that you guys have had with your last couple of singles.

01:33Yeah, you know, we're actually getting ready to start
01:35the whole process over again.
01:37Really excited.
01:38New year, new album at the end of the year.
01:41Kind of stopped.
01:42So it's starting over, which I love it.
01:44Now, your new single, Gonna Love You,
01:46is a lot different from the last singles that you've released.
01:50Yeah.
01:50I mean, we needed to pivot.
01:52And the thing about this song was,
01:54if we're going to pivot, we're going to come out with this song,
01:56we got to tell the story.
01:58Story about what happened, you know, back in 2010
02:01when the two guys tried to rob us on our RV
02:04and Scott was shot, protecting me
02:06and took out both the assailants,
02:09but he was shot three times
02:10and had a 5% chance of living.
02:11And we went through all that with him,
02:1440 days in the hospital, 10 in a coma,
02:16with just no hope whatsoever,
02:19except for the music we had.
02:21And at this point, you know,
02:22we had already been a band for eight or nine years
02:24with no record deal.
02:25We're just broke, working day jobs,
02:28just trying to make, you know, weekends happen
02:30and trying to get a record deal.
02:31And we luckily had a little bit on the line there in Nashville.
02:35And that kind of got us, got him rehabbing
02:38and got him out of that hospital.
02:40And we came back to Nashville, I think,
02:42three or four months later and did a showcase
02:44and finally got that record deal
02:46we've been struggling for for years and years.
02:49So it's a big, big moment in our lives.
02:51And songs found us at the time
02:52where we felt like it was time to tell the story.
02:55We had the song.
02:56We never had the song before.
02:57Well, it's a really good song.
02:59A lot of it had to do also with the album coming out on,
03:02they said, you guys can be able to drop the album
03:04on September 22nd.
03:05Well, the incident happened on September 21st.
03:08Oh, wow.
03:09Yeah.
03:10And it was, you know, 2023, which is 13 years later.
03:14Scott's birthday is on February 13th.
03:16So 13 has always been a number for him.
03:18It's just these crazy kind of little, you know,
03:21things in the air that kind of told us
03:24it was the right time to do it.
03:26Wow.
03:26Well, I got to be honest with you.
03:28The name of the song is Gonna Love You
03:29and it's a beautiful song.
03:32Yeah, it's great.
03:33But it's just, I mean, your voice,
03:35you got a chance to really work with your voice on that song.
03:39That's something we don't hear from you a lot.
03:41Yeah, and that was intentional, to be honest with you.
03:44We really wanted to explore where my voice sits best.
03:47When we went to write the song,
03:49it was, we wanted something cinematic,
03:51something that could be, you know,
03:52like the Aerosmith song in Armageddon.
03:54Armageddon, that's where our mind was.
03:56When we went to write the song,
03:58we were like, this is the place in the movie,
04:00this could be on TV.
04:01That was what we wanted to do.
04:03Well, I think you nailed it
04:04because that's a great song.
04:06Yeah.
04:06Well, you've obviously had big hits in a row
04:09and I'm going to ask you about Take My Name.
04:11When you look back,
04:12that was the most played song in 2022,
04:16over every song released in 2022.
04:19How cool is that?
04:21Amazing.
04:21It really is, man.
04:22And it just, it's such a testament
04:25that it's all about the song.
04:27Yes.
04:27You know, no matter what,
04:29if your song connects with people
04:31like that song did,
04:32then it really is just a testament
04:34of you never know what could happen
04:35if you put out that song
04:36and it really just connects with people.
