00:00It's JR backstage here at the QYK Guitar Poe at the Mahaffey Theater here with Mr. Brian Kelly.

00:05What's up, man? How are you?

00:05Man, happy to be here, brother. It's good to see you.

00:07Somebody was mentioning you at the CMAs and how dope you looked in your suit.

00:11Thanks, man.

00:12I mean, who's picking that out? Is that wife or is that you?

00:16Wife approved. Our stylist, Krista, found that suit.

00:21Well, it was really a compliment to Brittany's dress.

00:24She did a Tribe Kelly. With Tribe Kelly, we did a Mossy Oak-Tribe Kelly collaboration just recently

00:30with our butter sweats and some other women's ribbed pieces and things like that.

00:34So she did a one-on-one, did a couture, beautiful little dress, Mossy Oak.

00:39She did.

00:39And so we just found some colors, like a light green, darker green shirt under the jacket

00:45that really worked with her situation.

00:48So she made me look real good.

00:50Is that pressure on you? I mean, all these award shows, is it pressure?

00:53Because I think back, because I don't go to these award shows, but I think about, like, prom.

00:56And I was like, I wonder what dress she was wearing, and I had the right lapel or whatever.

01:00Do you get a little pressure on you to look awesome, or are you just looking awesome all the time?

01:03Oh, to look awesome? No, I mean, I just don't want to feel, you know, we've done a bunch of red carpets.

01:09We've been lucky enough to do red carpets, and I have probably fumbled on some former outfits

01:14over the years and some hairstyles.

01:16So these days, maybe it's a little easier for me just to be, you know, here's what I'm doing, you know?

01:23And it's just different, but you live and you learn on some things.

01:27It's pretty funny to look back at some old pictures and photos from some red carpets.

01:31I love that.

01:31No, no pressure at all, man.

01:38You kind of getting back to your roots a little bit, doing acoustic shows like this one tonight.

01:42This has got to be fun, because this is kind of where the song starts, right?

01:44That's right, man. That's right where they usually start.

01:46Some days you have a track going or somebody comes in with, you know, just already great sounding produced situation.

01:52But those days, you know, are kind of rare, I feel like.

01:55That was kind of more of a trend when a lot of guys coming up had more time.

01:58You'd catch somebody early on in their songwriting, producing career, and, you know, they'd already have stuff built up, you know?

02:06And everybody's so busy these days, and I feel like it's gotten back to a little bit more organic.

02:10Like, yeah, hey, let's grab one guitar, two guitars, and just hammer this thing out and see where we can go.

02:15But it's special.

02:16We just did a sound check.

02:17The theater sounds great.

02:18Great theater.

02:19Great freaking venue, right off the water.

02:21And, man, I'm just excited.

02:23It's going to be a great night.

02:24We've got a great lineup, and just blessed to be here.

02:27And, man, just, you know, this year has been a bunch of different configurations.

02:31We've done, you know, me and an acoustic player, me and two acoustics, me and a power acoustic with a cajon.

02:36We've done full band.

02:37We've done, you know, fully produced shows.

02:39We've kind of done, you know, a little bit of everything, and it's been great, man.

02:43We really are pouring the foundation of a solo career this year and doing things the right way.

02:47Right.

02:48And just really trying to connect the dots with radio, with fans, and just kind of take every night, you know, a night at a time, man.

02:56It really has been a crazy schedule, but, like, I love to work, and I love music, and I know I've got some dreams to hunt down in this life.

03:04And so this is all part of it.

03:23Well, man, I got a song coming out on Friday that can definitely be jammed on the boat, but this one will be jammed everywhere, hopefully.

03:29This one's just a big anthem.

03:30It's probably sonically the heaviest song I've done thus far.

03:34Ooh, okay.

03:35It's just big guitars, big drums, big hooks, and it's just a song called How We're Living.

03:41It's all about loving how we're living, working hard, playing hard, getting bass, and hauling ass.

03:45You know what I'm saying?
