The PNM's Laventille crowd roared in approval as Prime Minister Stuart Young promised to increase salaries of nurses, a stipend for nursing students and a raised retirement age for the Defence Force.

00:00As the election race heats up, promises for a better TNT are coming from both major sides of the arena.
00:08Nursing students at UE and USC are up for equity with their costat counterparts.
00:15I am telling the nursing students tonight, and I first was told this story when I was traveling on behalf of Trinidad and Tobago,

00:31Nursing students tonight, the next PNM government that I intend on leading from the 29th of April,
00:39will address this, and the students in UE and USC will get the same stipend as those in costat.
00:47It has been 12 years since nurses received an increase in their salaries.
00:52This morning I gave instructions that that be fixed and that the CPO look at giving on nurses increases from 2013.
01:03Prime Minister Stuart Young says he met with a consortium of interested parties on Wednesday,
01:09leading him to take certain decisions.
01:12Members of the Defense Force also received attention over the Young Retirement Age stipulation.
01:19That is old law and archaic.
01:22Now in today's day, today's world with medical health and keeping fit and wellness,
01:29we could get a lot more out of the money we've invested in training our servicemen,
01:34but also their service.
01:36And God knows we are at a time that we need every boot on the ground fighting that criminal element.
01:43So tonight, I tell our men and women in the Defense Force that the next PNM government is going to give consideration
01:52to raising the age of retirement for our servicemen and women.
01:57PM Young said pensions will be safe under the new chapter of the PNM and that the process will be automated.
02:05He also promised a dial-a-ride system to take persons from depressed areas to the hospital.
