The PNM's Laventille crowd roared in approval as Prime Minister Stuart Young promised to increase salaries of nurses, a stipend for nursing students and a raised retirement age for the Defence Force.

we could get a lot more out of the money we've invested in training our servicemen,

And God knows we are at a time that we need every boot on the ground fighting that criminal element.

So tonight, I tell our men and women in the Defense Force that the next PNM government is going to give consideration

to raising the age of retirement for our servicemen and women.

PM Young said pensions will be safe under the new chapter of the PNM and that the process will be automated.

He also promised a dial-a-ride system to take persons from depressed areas to the hospital.
