00:06The results are out from the CXC area and our nursing students are not doing good at all in the Caribbean.
00:15And we have a lot of senior persons here and I want you all to join ranks
00:21and make sure that the nursing students are attended to in the clinical area.
00:28What are you all doing that we in the Caribbean are not doing well?
00:34We the Trinidad and Tobago nursing students are not doing well at all.
00:39The senior nursing lecturer is also lobbying the nursing council and the National Nurses Association
00:45to put pressure on the government to invest more in nurses.
00:49We need to be heard.
00:51So I'm calling on the executive, Ms. Cox and others, to do something with this new government,
01:00try to have regular meetings because I know for sure in the smaller Caribbean islands
01:06where you have the Caribbean Nurses Organization, what do you call it?
01:13Nurses Associations.
01:14They are very close to their politicians and I notice in Trinidad and Tobago we are not that close.
01:23We can't get near to them to talk because when they go to their ministers,
01:28they tell them what they are going to do and if we do not get this, this is what we are going to do.
01:34President of the National Nurses Association, Eddie Stewart, confirms
01:38that more than 50% of the nursing students failed the exam.
01:42He identified the discontinuation of stipends and nursing hostels as major factors.
01:48The association has requested a meeting with the health minister on this and other concerns.
